holiestcows got a reaction from TheOnlyDoubleF in What's going on with your life?
I just applied at a few game company's for a level design position. Finally feel confident enough in my ability to go and reach out. Hopefully ill get some good news. Mean while, my part time job ive had, has some drama going on. There is a lot of hypocritical things that go on via the GM(general manager) and ive been vocal about it, among some other employees and two of the floor managers. Now shes cutting my hours, to below the NYS mandated required amount for a part time job so im contacting the DM(Distract Manager) about this, among some other complaints. Its petty drama, but I need the work, and frankly Ive always had an issue with people getting away with wrong doings.

She said YES!!!
So here's how it went down. I took her out to a local airport for our anniversary (dating) and got her a ride in my cousin's 2 seat Stearman (open canopy) bi-plane. Looks like this model here:
Unbeknownst to her, I had hired another pilot to fly a banner that read "Will you marry me?" During the flight (which was very overcast and had a low ceiling of only 300 feet or so) - the banner guy was flying along (having picked up the tow banner in front of everyone in a batman style pick-up) - and my cousin did a flyby of his plane, asking my fiance (that sounds sooooo good) to read the banner. He then joked that "oh that's funny, someone must be getting proposed to today - John wouldn't do that though." This played perfectly for her (although she had small alarms going off in her head she told me later). Then they landed the plane (her family and my family were there). She hadn't really seen anybody yet though, and got out of the plane. Once down, the tow guy flew across the runway at basically 0 feet dragging the banner along the runway (very cool - again, batman - I swear). She read it again and I got down on my knee behind her while she was distracted. She turned around, freaked out a little (as anticipated) and said yes. I'm engaged gang!
Edit: Just found out that the guy who strapped her in while my cousin finished prep work was a NASA astronaut. That was an awesome suprised to us both.

Looking for some info of the project and your experience too. "Map Developers" are people too and want to know if there's point to waste time and thought into providing you info while not receiving anything back.

So I moved out of my parents into my own place back in early January, and im rooming with 3 of my good friends. Since then I have not been even remotely inspired to work on any level design, and in fact, as of now, almost 6 months into the year, ive only worked on Import(which was technically already a finished map) and made a small environmental scene for a Treyarch Job application. Ive thought about it a lot, on and off, thinking, maybe its just due to me being busy, growing up, living on my own, just life shit etc. Well I got a new roommate, an old friend of ours, who has a similar outlook on life, like mine, of general optimism and just wanting to achieve goals and make shit happen. With this new person in my day to day environment, and this project him and I are going to do in UE4, I find my self excited to work and design things for the first time in months and its just fantastic. As im typing this, im just browsing around on the internet reading about different material studies for post modern designs, while I have UE4 open using PBR. Im just really happy to of found that spark to be creative again. All in all, I hope you all here on mapcore are doing great and stay optimistic, because why live life if all you're going to do is dwell in the mud.

holiestcows reacted to NihiL in [WIP] de_spice (playtest tonight at 9pm CET)
Hello there everybody! First-time poster here but long-time CS mapper (mostly ~1.5 era, skipped Source, just recently got into CS:GO mapping). I just finished my very first CS:GO map called de_spice and I'd love to get more feedback.
CT spawn west, T spawn east, A bombsite south, B bombsite north.
Here's me walking around on it and talking about the newest updates if you want to get a better picture:

And if you want to walk around on it (please do if you want to leave feedback, it makes it much more valuable!): STEAM WORKSHOP LINK http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=271742721
This map has already undergone three big updates and a full Reddit playtesting session.
Here's things I already am aware of:
- The setting is boring. This is something I learned from making this map. Just going for Dust 2/Mirage Middle-Eastern village crap isn't enough. Unfortunately it's too late to change that for de_spice obviously.
- Same goes for the visuals. It looks Source-y because I haven't figured out a good Maya or 3DS Max workflow for importing custom models quite yet and didn't do custom textures either. A complete revamp is also out of the question at this point.
- You are spread thin as CTs on the map in the beginning. There's 4 as opposed to 3 areas to cover (A, Middle, Apps and B where in for example Dust 2 it's just A, Middle and B because you can watch Short from Middle). This is something I'm thinking of changing but it would need more feedback and testing.
Apart from that, I'd love to find out what you think of it, what should be improved and so on. Maybe there are any tricks or tips for a newcomer like me?
Cheers!

holiestcows reacted to FMPONE in Mapcore June 1 Announcement
Hey guys,
So quick announcement. On June 1 we're putting on a little event and can probably expect some decent traffic to the site. I'd like to ask you in advance, especially our senior members and other veteran people, to treat this as a big growth opportunity for Mapcore, and be welcoming since we all were beginners once and helpful feedback and hard work is how we got better. Thats it from me.
