  1. I think the teacher was really doomed from the start.... Day one of class, she was ignoring the students questions, not answering questions (beating around the bush), etc... Students lost all respect for her.

Then the school tried to help her and she half improved (Before quickly going back to the old ways) and the students wouldn't listen to her anymore due to lack of respect.

  2. Specific to your situation; I don't think you're going to get that teacher back with new teaching habbits. Not without somebody holding her hand and jumping on her during class (eg: assistant/student teacher).

Yeah school's too poor for that one. :P

Your best bet is to try and get a sort of permanent substitute. When my Calculus teacher had to leave mid-semester during my senior year of high school due to her pregnancy, she was replaced a permanent sub for the rest of the year; a college student (math major). I'd tell your school to go for that. Try and find a college chemistry student that's looking to make a few extra bucks, and have them teach, and then offer after school help. In my experience, bouncing from sub to sub is not going to work. That's what happened in junior high school to my History teacher. She had to leave due to a pregnancy and was replaced with different subs every day. It's a clusterfuck because the subs to sync with each other. Sure, you have somebody in the room watching the students, but none of the information syncs in because the subs (try as they may) will never be in sync with each other.

Yeah until we scare them off... It's not like our school is bad kids/special ed... Were just not traditional. We're lucky if we can get a sub (who attempts to teach) for more than a week.

The only way the sub to sub routine will work is if there's only a week left of class. Then it's not that big of a deal, since the majority of the information on the finals will have come from the previous teacher anyway (and while she may have sucked, at least the source of information was consistent).

Except it wasn't. She didn't even teach each class the same information (Or assign the same homework, etc <-- And then she'd try to collect class B's homework in class A, etc)

It's a touch situation, but in all the substitute situations I've gone through in my academic career, the permanent sub that actually knows what the hell they're talking about works best. Just make sure there's an offering of after school help.

There's already after school help from a chem major, because people were having issues before. I don't think loading two or three complete classes on him is going to help.

  3. Interesting to hear that someone tried this in the games business (with success). I've heard of independent movie makers who boosted publicity and sales of their works by spreading them in p2p networks before.

I think it was Tucker Max who promoted the movie they made about him on p2p sites just due to the low amount of places it was showing.

  4. I'm a Junior at Highschool, and after many complains of bad teaching from students and parents, they dismissed our Chemistry teacher mid-semester. (Finals are next week).

I agree that her teaching practices were bad, and she wasn't doing a good job at teaching the content to the students. There's no new chemistry teacher lined up and we will probably bounce from substitute to substitute flunking as we go.

For today (this being the first day) me and another student taught class (since the sub didn't know the content). This worked fine, and people understood the content (Even though the ex-teacher tried to explain it multiple times to no avail).

However: This isn't going to work out. There are multiple chemistry classes and we can't teach in that those (And I don't know if anyone in those classes would be able to step up and teach it). We could probably assign homework (As far as our class) and use the book as a lesson plan, and even correct the work but I don't know if they (the school) would count those grades as valid and put them into the grade book.

This still doesn't work with the other classes so...

What should the general plan of attack be?

Should we try to get the teacher back (If she's willing to change her teaching practices)?

Should we let the school bounce us from sub to sub and try and keep the class afloat with student teaching? (Which only works until we can't figure out the content)

Has anyone had this happen before/have any insight?

  5. MW3 is going to have to be in 3D to beat this potential gem!

But MW2 is 3D.... Almost all FPS games are :v

Gah, someone find me a place to a digital copy with $ currency, my laptop gets way to hot with a DVD running while playing. Steam is fucking ~$20 more than what I'd pay for a hard copy.

It's $60 on Steam right? It's selling for $60+ here, in some stores they've supposedly got it marked up to double the price.

  6. it's too bad there's no security and full public access. we used it briefly for our current project, but went back to assembla.com and svn because it's much better for collaboration. we're also waiting for google wave invites to arrive so we can test this out as a collaborative tool.

Only stuff in your Public folder is public. Anything in a folder other than that is only accessible by you, and then you can share folders between dropboxes where only those in the share can get it.

I imagine it's not super secure but i'd hold the average guy out.

    Thats pretty awesome.

But using it instead if svn??? That sounds like a terrible terrible idea. Good luck fixing the build after someone fucked it up (which will inevitably happen).

Supposedly it stores older versions for up to 30 days but I haven't used this feature.

  7. I like the fact they capped the MP. Playing maps designed and tested for 16 people on 30+ server was ridiculous, well it wouldn't matter if one could find a proper 16 player server but 99% of the servers were 24+.

I tried playing cod4 a couple days ago, and I remember why I quit, 1/3 of the deaths was by grenade, and there were constant air raids/ helicopter gunships, which were both the result of so many people playing in such a small space. Still though the following picture is appropriate.

    features.jpg

Totally worth the trade off for Online Profiles, Zero Ping Advantage, and... Uh... >.>

  8. Thanks for the feedback guys! im going to work on it this weekend and try and improve it, im not sure how I can combat their being too much yellow, nor how to seperate the boat more from the background more than I already have, but i will try. Ok so it seems the 1st shot is better but I still need to pick another angle for the comp, the thrid shot was an attempt at that, but ima guessing not many people like it?

For some reason whenever I think about the image, I think it'd stand out with a ice blue sky in the background (Instead of the orange), which would really make the fire pop.... Maybe something to try, will probably look like bleh though. :(

    Edit:

    Nevermind this looks like crap.

Terribly sorry to use Imageshack but I can't get anything else to load here right now.

    testpolish1.jpg

Though it might look better if it wasn't photoshop + hue/sat adjustment and the eraser tool. ;)

  9. I don't get what's going on... They keep announcing things which the community keeps going "Boo" at, and then they announce another "Boo" item...

They just announced 9v9 Max players... That's too big for competition and too small for a good game I'd think? Either way...

"• Response to the petition is "All I can say is that we changed it to make it a better and easier experience. Also, not all of the names on that list are legit. ;) Yes, the wink was indeed used in the response."

I think it's valid that their trying to make a fair and balanced gameplay but... with no demo and all of these "turn off" features...

    I just don't know anymore.

Reading the replies on some other forums, people are not happy with this. I've seen a lot of "F u's" and "Not paying $60 for this bs", among others... I'm honestly surprised at what their doing. And the "official" response to the pirated copy? Ignored.

You said IWnet was created to help stop piracy, what do you say about the Xbox 360 version leaked and shared on torrent sites?

    Vince-IW

IWnet was designed to make the MP experience on PC easier and more balanced.

  10. To break this ugly mood, here is a pretty good article with the writer that helped us out...

    http://content.usatoday.com/communities ... se-stern/1

..and another with this Hans guy.

    http://content.usatoday.com/communities ... s-zimmer/1

As much as I love Hans Zimmer, I'm a hair bit bummed about it. They kinda ditched their old composer as far as I know, unless it will be a co-production.

However Hans Zimmer's soundtracks for PotC were excellent and I'm sure it will only add to MW2.

  11. Has anyone else found that the melee weapons are too good? Someone was telling me he felt like an idiot walking around with a gun when someone running around holding down the 'fire' button with the machete was far more effective and got several times the amount of kills.

Depends on the situation. If there's just a few common in the streets, Melee is a good choice. However if you get horded the melee's will only work if their coming in though one small entrance or you're corner camping. A spitter soon ends this.

But I agree, their a bit too strong.

I brought the first game so I had something to play with my brother, until he went back to Call of Duty anyway. I was intrigued but found myself underwhelmed by the amount of content, especially with only two maps in versus. Once I'd finished a campaign I didn't feel like I wanted to play it again, especially as I actively dislike rank systems (or AI Directors as we now call them). I want to like L4D2, but I'm still not sure about it.

There's now a shorter campaign (Mainly designed for Vs.), and all of the campaigns are Vs. Enabled now for L4D1 + SUrvival mode.

And there's no real rank system in L4D1 or 2. Yes you can see leaderboards but only if you wanted to, and then it only ranks you against your friends.

I'd say wait for the L4D2 Demo, see what it's like. IMO: It's enough like L4D1 that it feels like the same situation/zombie apocalypse, but there's enough new gameplay tactics, weapons, models/resources/textures/sounds that it's fresh and exciting.

And you still get the old SI, but their fairly rare now so it doesn't even feel like you're fighting stuff from L4D1.

    Just my $0.02

  12. It's less what you have to say, and more the abrasive manner in which you're saying it. This kind of thing:

Just bear in in mind that if at any point you decide to criticise any game, there's a considerable chance someone who worked on it visits MapCore. As such, criticise it like you'd criticise a friend's work — with sensitivity and respect. Because we are all friends here, right?

My bad. I probably should have rephrased it better, but my point was still valid. You don't promote anti-piracy through making bad decisions and angering your community.

And I wasn't directly attacking anyone's work on MW2 or at IW, I just think the company as a whole is making bad decisions... No one here is responsible for that, nor is any one person at IW responsible.

If I offended anyone, I didn't mean to.

  13. I didn't played it but I really want to. I even didn't have time to play L4D 1 so my opinion is based only on trailers/youtube walkthroughs.

Dead Island is fine but I'm doing something else.

Don't trust XBox videos, they make it way boring since the aim is all whack. I imagine they have reduced difficulty to compensate.

  14. I haven't looked at the trailer [HP] just posted but last time the rain effects appeared to be lacking.

More of an aesthetically critique but you'd think a game named Heavy Rain would have some nice looking rain. :P

However gameplay looked interesting last time I saw a gameplay video.
