Vilham reacted to ┌HP┘ in (Source 2) Porto - Portugal
Finally got around to make a short breakdown of the Source 2 scene I made a while ago. I made sure I took a few WIP screenshots as I worked on it, so I could do a thorough breakdown later on, so here you have it.
This engine is really fun to work with, you can model nearly everything in editor, just like you could back in the BSP era, I really hope to see more engines (specifically Unity/Unreal) follow suit, as removing the need to use so many third party apps from your workflow really makes making maps a lot more fun.
(Had to divide it into two parts, as ArtStation limits the amount of characters per post.)

Vilham got a reaction from blackdog in Doom Eternal
Ok, change my view. Doom eternal DLC is dreadful. Its a bunch of fights in terrible environments and poor AI compositions (its just more of all the enemy types with zero complimenting fights).
2 doom hunters in the same room, where they have very specific vulnerable timers to hit doesn't work.
Fighting a cyber demon in a LITERAL hallway doesn't work.
Fighting multiples of the strongest enemies in an environment with lots of edges to get caught on and 15 or so small adds to get caught on doesn't work.

It is not possible to achieve herd immunity without vaccination. It certainly has never been done.
The vaccine has now been given to millions of people (one of my friends in Germany got his 1st shot of the Pfizer vaccine today). The number of severe adverse reactions can be counted on one (max 2 hands) I believe. That is definitely in line with other vaccines and other medications available on the market. Honestly, the side effects of covid are already known and are much much worse.
As for long-term side effects. I read a very interesting article about this by a virologist (I can't find it as I am posting this)... but the way it was explained (and I am badly paraphrasing) was basically that based on how this type of vaccine works, the ingredients in the vaccine dissipate in your body very early on so it's not even possible for the vaccine to cause problems years down the line. The jab's main job is to trigger an antibody/immune response and provide instructions on how to fight the virus if it enters the body. When that is achieved, the actual vaccine itself basically dissolves in your body. Again, I am really badly paraphrasing what the original quote was, but that is essentially how it works.
Also, I repeat again that the vaccine was not "rushed" out the door as some are claiming. The safety trials were completed satisfactorily. The reason it feels like it was rushed is because in normal vaccine development the stages take much longer to pass as they aren't being pumped full of money by literally every country on the planet.
I will be taking the shot as soon as I can. For those of you who choose not to, that's certainly your choice. Just know you are contributing to the global community not achieving herd immunity. I also imagine you will be restricted from getting certain services, or entering certain public places, and rightly so.

I know I am no longer active here, but I just wanted to report in that I have accepted my first full time position with Lost Boys Interactive as a VFX Artist. So even if you're struggling and its been years, know that it can still happen when you least expect it.

Agreed, I have a category in steam called "Completed not finished" for games that im done with but i didnt 100% or finish a full campaign of.
As soon as a game is bought it goes in my favorites so its at the top, when that list is too long I don't buy anything. When im done with the game it gets categorized and removed from favorites.

I feel sorry for the devs. They've been crunching for god knows how long. Probably screaming at management saying the game isn't ready for release and then they go ahead and release it anyway causing a bit of a shit storm with tons of bad press and angry fans. No doubt they'll be asked to crunch/work over the Christmas period to get hotfixes and patches out when upper management knew what state the game was in.
I know it's a big game with tons of stuff going on and bugs are inevitable in a game of this scale. But they must have known how bad it was on the current generation of consoles and still decided to release it anyway. I'm sure they'll fix most of the issues eventually and I am still looking forward to playing it myself but I just feel bad for the devs.

Yeah 3 more projects plus homeworld 3 I think. The studio is quite large and is still 100% independent. They have some awesome benefits such as paying you to do research and prototyping a certain amount of time per year. There's about 10-15 of the best people I've worked with across a bunch of studios that all ended up here which is one of main reasons I joined. Some of my favorite managers, one of my programming mentors and a whole lot of other great people.
For the medical stuff, there's a bunch of reasons but the main thing is I finished my 2 year surgery simulation/training project and it was a good time to move. I try to never leave a company mid-project so that I have the smallest impact when I leave.
If you're even in BC again give me a ring

Frostbite Update 4-7
We have continued to remake pretty much the entire map and this time we took on the ski lift buildings :D.
The old and blocky buildings were replaced with completely new ones that not only look much better but should also offer more unique gameplay possibilities.
- Remade ski lift buildings for improved gameplay and visuals
- Adjusted ski flags and color coded each slope
- Remade the centerpiece statue
- Fixed railing collision and clipping
- Moved porta potty to Construction
- Adjusted handrails (thanks poLemin)
- Fixed visual errors in certain buildings
- Various changes to prop fade distances throughout the map
- Fixed rare cases of floating grass
- Fixed various terrain issues
- Fixed certain texture blends
- Fixed visual inconsistencies
- Glass on top of the middle ski lift building no longer sounds like concrete
- Fixed missing brush face on a house porch.
