Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) markets the PlayStation® family of products and develops, publishes, markets, and distributes software for the PS one® console, the PlayStation®2 and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems and the PlayStation Portable (PSP®). Overall, the position of Sr. Level Designer is expected to partner with the organization to: Responsibilities • The Senior Level Designer is skilled in the creation of game levels and character based gameplay scenarios. • Responsible for contributing to level concept, layout, implementation (camera, entity, etc.), prototype modeling, scenario creation, event scripting, game balancing, pacing, and gameplay tuning. • Expected to contribute to general game design, as well as cooperate with all other facets of game production (programming, environment/world art and animation). Qualifications • Having shipped at least two console games in a senior level designer role. • Will possess strong hands-on experience with level design, writing scripts and implementation utilizing a 3D software package - preferably Maya. • Demonstrate solid writing skills - possess the ability to clearly and concisely define game areas and feature sets. • Able to consider game-wide mechanics including interface, pacing and story, game balance, and difficulty curve. • Possess the ability and desire to contribute in a highly creative environment, provide unique concepts and solutions. • Have a good understanding of the game market, can analyze competitive products to identify key strengths and weaknesses. • Be able to communicate, evolve, and proactively push the game design; and moreover, have a passion for playing / creating creative and quality videogames. • Overall game design process knowledge including, but not limited to, story and character design, level design, AI design, player control, user interface, pacing, etc. Possess comprehensive knowledge of Maya as it relates to combat design, engine tools and processes. Fundamental knowledge of game design and ability to create rough 3D test environments required.   2. Senior Combat Designer Location: Santa Monica, CA Job Description: Be a part of the most exciting and innovating computer entertainment in North America. Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) markets the PlayStation® family of products and develops, publishes, markets, and distributes software for the PS one® console, the PlayStation®2 and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems and the PlayStation Portable (PSP®). Overall, the position of Sr. Combat Designer is expected to partner with the organization to: • Assist, collaborate with and take direction from Game Director as needed on any the following: character and boss design from concept to completion, including environmental character impact, special effects, sound effects, AI gameplay layout and tuning, controller configuration, magic distribution and character balance and ramping. As needed, act as liaison between Game Director and Junior Combat Designers, in addition to conducting any needed communication with other groups. • Actively participate in and occasionally lead required production related meetings and functions as needed. Attend and/or lead combat-specific discussions concerning combat design and combat design issues. Collaborate with Game Director, Key Leads and Producer during the product development cycle. • Work within the set standard for all character asset creation within the production path as it relates to design, art and otherwise. Must comprehend a working knowledge of the game production pipeline in order to communicate effectively with other team members. Understanding of the relationship between gameplay elements within the level and the overall game and all the ways the player can respond to each gameplay element. • Contribute, as needed, in all educational meetings for in-house staff on new technical issues and tools dealing with all combat design aspects. • Communicate thoroughly to insure good working relationships with the other Designers, Game Director, Producer, Art Director, Lead Artist, Lead Programmer, Lead Animator, on any and all issues. • Support the design team during the progression of the project by being a self-reliant Designer and taking the initiative wherever appropriate to make the project more successful.
