  1. My masters is in english - if you're interested, I'll send you a link through PM.
  2. Just a FYI in case anyone is wondering, apparently Steam is having some caching issues. Don't use the steam store or community right now. Check the SteamDB twitter for more info. https://twitter.com/SteamDB
  3. Don't get me wrong, you would still be able to move the mouse anywhere - but it would just be charging while on the mousepad. It's really just a replacement for a charger as it were.
  4. I got like a few indie games I wanted to check out, I think I'll also pick up Sir You Are Being Hunted because it kind of sounds interesting, though the playthrough I've seen some of the gameplay and UI threw me off
  5. I wonder why nobody has done inductive charging mousepads for wireless mice yet
  6. Yes! In my work I looked at emotions as energy states (i.e. intense vs weak emotions) and how visual perception affected these. The way the brain processes visual stimuli is especially interesting because we have tools like Bayesian Logic of perception, 8 Laws of Ramachandran and Gestalt Laws that allows the research to have practical applications too. Between those and having knowledge about the path of least resistance, one can create an open environment where the players still follow a fairly linear path, for instance.
  7. There's a lot of stuff to draw on, it depends on what exactly you're looking for. I would suggest looking for scientific articles or borrow books at a university library. I did my Masters covering emotions and psychology associated with visual tokens/assets (neuroaesthetics) to create atmospheres - I could potentially give you references there. There's also a whole bunch on lighting. For specific design stuff I think you need to clarify the context you want to use this stuff in.
  8. Just finished Alien: Isolation. Great atmosphere and some interesting progression for the first 10 missions, but I couldn't help but feel it was somewhat lacking in the level design department. Too much backtracking, and definitely too many worst case scenarios happening at the same time. Of course the ladder you're going to grab is going to break, of course the elevator is going to stop, of course you're going to fall down a hatch right before you fucking finish an objective. Stuff like this just made the game a cliche that broke the immersion. It removed the element of horror and fear and replaced it with frustration because you have to yet again go through numerous hoops just to get to a point you already were at. Then there's also the improbability of stuff like Xenomorphs surviving the vaccuum of space and the ending being so anticlimactic it felt like all the things you've built up during the latter part of the game just falling apart. Still, Sevastopol was interesting place to explore, the deserted look of the station and the different people trying to survive was a super cool aspect, and I wish they would have explored that avenue more in terms of gameplay.
  9. Definitely not thinking of it as a conventional table. I was thinking more of furniture that looks like this: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NjQwWDg1Mg==/z/e3oAAOSwPhdU~zZy/$_1.JPG
  10. Super badass stuff mang Just out of curiosity, how hard/expensive is it to make furniture out of just one piece of wood? I'm thinking in particular of tables and chairs.
  11. performance is really smooth now, like I said, the biggest thing right now is just the balance issues when you're playing on the hardest difficulty and some few minor design issues.
  12. I know it's only in early access, but I've been having a ton of fun with this game, especially on stalker difficulty level. It's basically survival in Canadian wilderness in winter. Lot of choice and usually consequence for each choice. Since it's early access there are of course a few hurdles, with the sandbox being the only game mode, and there being some unfair mechanics in place currently. However, for the most part of the game, it is a great wilderness survival simulation.

  14. Totally agree with that notion @Sjonsson, monsters feel very out of place. I would have enjoyed it more just as a puzzle/exploration game than a horror game. Still a great game though, asks questions few dare think about
  15. Masa Harina is apparently a godlike substance.

  16. It's cool seeing other people also practice some kind of Kung Fu. I do Baji Quan myself (if you were interested in spear, this would probably be a style to consider) which is a great workout as well since it's all about using all of your power in one hit. There's not a lot of cardio and most of the power is internal, so I combine the training with going to the gym right before, ending up in some 3-4 hour long training sessions 2 times a week.
  17. contrary to what has been said, the article I linked didn't say to cut off carbs, it just said starvation mode doesn't exist. No energy in your body is exempt from being used, and it's backing up that fact with sources every step of the way. Your body can't magically conjure up calories to make up for stuff you don't eat. I agree with @knj that ‌counting calories is the best way to control your diet, which is also something the article makes a huge point of.
  18. Just to kick the myth about "starvation mode": http://www.aworkoutroutine.com/starvation-mode/
  19. On a lighter note I finished my first obstacle/mud run this weekend. It was interesting to run it as a level designer, seeing as it's paced between just standard running and obstacles. The challenges were nice as most of them required teamwork, which made running in a team so much more fun. Some of them were also much worse than expected. Who knew you'd get the longest brainfreeze after immersing yourself fully in ice water for just a few seconds? Some of the challenges were also in the north sea, some of which included a mild waterboarding effect as well as going into waist deep water to take a ladder up to a bridge... kind of like playing call of duty SP with like 100 other people. Definitely interesting as an inspiration and experience, will likely do it again if my body ever recovers.
  20. I didn't call you uneducated, I said you should educate yourself. With the way the media portrays everything currently, it is getting harder to rely on them to get the correct picture. I ask you to research things before coming with claims that reinforce a negative stereotype of people.
  21. You're making a huge assumption here that everyone who is a refuge has a family of 4 people total.I don't think that's true, and even if it was, a million people in total dispersed all over Europe is NOTHING. And this rumor with middle eastern families having more kids is bullshit propaganda. Why would they get more kids when it isn't sustainable for them to do so? Nobody has that many kids anymore because nobody can use that many kids for anything. In the olden days it may have been true, as it was for western countries where farmers needed the extra help of children to make do. Educate yourself.
  22. I don't believe the fact that people don't want to take in refugees. I believe people are being driven to this point by fearmongering politicians who are looking for the lowest common denominator so they can get more votes next election. By far the biggest culprit in this scenario is the wrongful portrayal of refugees by the media. Only roughly 250,000 refugees have come into mainland Europe, whereas most of syria's 17 million population has stayed behind in 'safer' areas in Syria as well as refugee camps on the Turkish borderland (4 million in Turkish refugee camps). There is no invasion, there's a small city's worth of people who want to migrate into Europe because their current living conditions are abysmal. Between all the European countries, having an extra 250k people enter should be a breeze. Anything else is just propaganda and fearmongering. Don't buy into that shit and stay on top of the facts in these matters. Educating yourself on these things is free for now, so do it while they still let you.
  23. As long as you know ISIS is financed in part by the west. I wish I was kidding.
