While I think fallout would be a great franchise for an mmo, I have little faith in Herve Caen to do anything worthwhile. The guy ruined Interplay in the first place. I just think he is trying to hold on to what he has and make some cash before the whole thing goes under. He is a terrible business man and not that great a developer, just look at his track record.
I would be more confident with the development in someone else's hands and I'm glad Bethesda scooped up the rights for us. I would hope that boyarsky, cain and anderson get involved in the franchise in some manner in the future.

Thanks for the crits, they were very helpful. I'm going to scrap the vacancy part (or find someplace else to put it) and add something neat on the top right corner of the top sign. Then redo the UV.
I know the UV had some repetition problems, that was just laziness, but i'll fix it this time around.

Somehow I couldn't find an older Fallout 3 thread, my searching skills must suck.
Anyway, some new screens came out: http://fallout3.wordpress.com/2008/04/0 ... pcgamesde/
I'm surprised at how low-res the textures are, but it still looks good nonetheless. I can't wait.

I made this last night, sort've inspired by mino's sign in the texture thread

I'm probably going to dirty it up some more, especially the bottom lettering. I need to add the neon lights now, below is how the lights will be arranged:

-
It would also be cool if you made one of the panels missing on the texture and showed some wiring or some type of mechanical innards
-
Quick question: I am uving a model and realized that when I created the uv I forgot to attach a small piece of geometry to the rest of the model. Is there a way to attach it without having to restart the UV?

Everything is run on redundant systems, a lot like an airplane but even moreso. If something fails there are 4+ backups.
Nuclear power is one of the safest alternatives out there. There has been so much hysteria and misinformation in the past and therefore it has gotten a bad rap. It deserves alot more credit than it has been given in terms of safety and effectiveness.
And back on the topic of depleted uranium. The toxicity is in no way related to its radioactivity, rather the fact that it is just a heavy metal ala lead.
-
You can't have a meltdown without the fuel rods hitting critical mass, something that modern day reactors are not very likely to ever see. Not to mention that's not an issue when you are storing depleted fuel rods. The only danger in storing the waste material is if someone was to break in and steal some and then make a dirty bomb out of it, which in the end would cause more hysteria than environmental damage. Which is why storing it in one big place is safer.
Reactors are designed differently now than they were in the chernobyl days, it was a flawed design to begin with.
I think we are getting off-topic

-
I disagree. Uranium is found in virtually every rock on earth. It's pretty abundant and you would be surprised at how much energy you can extract from a small amount of enriched ore.
Also, depleted uranium is not THAT dangerous unless it you inhale dust when it is incenerated/exploded/etc. Not trying to underplay its' toxicity but it is nowhere as dangerous as u235.
I do admit that storing it could be dangerous, but as long as there is a good plan and strategy at containing it I still think it is the best option we have at making clean power en masse at this point. I do agree that it is not an ultimate solution but I think it is the correct stepping stone.
In the US they are building a pretty huge facility inside of a mountain in the middle of a desert, should be pretty secure, but who knows.
Solar technology I hope will be the future, but the technology still just isn't there. We still aren't to the point where the efficiency is there and the cost per watt is way too high.
-
We rate our gass differently. I'm not sure exactly how it is calculated but our 87 octane here is equivelent to your 92 RON.
Gas stations usually carry 87, 89, and 93. They are usually sold in 10c increments. Some places carry 100.
My car only takes 93+, it sucks... but in the end its probably only about $3 more for a full tank.
-
Gas is really the only thing that is noticeable right now, but food prices and other stuff are starting to go up a little.
IMO I think the dollar was way overvalued anyway. This may be actually helpful to us since more people are able to buy good from the US and maybe it can jumpstart some more manufacturing jobs.
edit: When I first got my drivers license gas was under $1 per gallon.

I wish they would do something more like nolf. I miss that franchise.

Wheres a good place to start for radiant tutorials?
I opened it up the other day and it seems a little intimidating.

I always wonder what the workflow is like in the SDK versus what they really use at Valve. Surely it can't be as backasswards. It took me half a day to figure out how to compile a model, and that's only because we have 3rd party tools (thank god for wunderboy)
After ep3 is over they need to just build something completely new from the ground-up, because Source is going to be ancient by then.

It would be neat if there were multiple facial expressions.

Can't wait. Q3 forever.
All it needs is stats tracking and this could replace Desktop TD as my primary quick fix game.
It's going to have stats and match-making

I had to restart the game due to a bug like this... then later in the game one mission/story branch totally got messed up, then I got bored and quit playing it. Still a good game, though... just too many bugs.
-
Yeah this looks absolutely awful, almost sub b material.
Anthony Bourdain is an extra in it though and gets shot up. lol

I only played the shareware version of this game, but it was pretty revolutionary to me at the time. It was called strife and you could converse with npc's, buy weapons, armor, etc. Almost a pseudo rpg/fps. The game world was pretty unique.

Anyone remember this? I always wished I had bought it because I had so much fun w/ the demo.
-
May be a dumb question, but did you try adjusting the variables?
-
pre-rendered shadows doesn't really bother me... probably means there isn't going to be any kind of day-night cycle, though.
-
I also have trouble with the jumping. It seems like half the time I just can't even jump. On el paso, even trying to jump on a porch that is only like 10 inches tall requires you sit there and try 3 or 4 times before you can actually jump up there. It's just really annoying and gets me killed all the time because I get stuck trying to jump up something that I could just as easily should be able to walk over.

Remington 1100?
My only suggestion is to add the cocking lever and maybe add some more polys to the bevel on the stock. However, that might not be necessary if it isn't going to be used as a world model.
Keep it up.
Edit: you can also extend the handguard furniture further in the rear to where it is flush with the receiver, it will save you some polys too.

I bought the max payne package, I never got around to playing mp2.

I don't really like the bauhaus type design (architecturally) either, however what they accomplished in the bauhaus was pretty significant.
I am an industrial design graduate, they preached the bauhaus stuff relentlessly.
