  1. Obama is going to win, I think everyone has known that for a few months. McCain never really had a chance. I can't stand either one of them and I'm just going to write in someone.

They both suck and are of the same breed, just different talk. I lost faith in government/society a long time ago. I'm dreading all the new shit that's going to change with this democrat majority ruled legislative and executive branches. We've been on the path to socialism for awhile now though I guess...

  2. I'm pretty sure that violates the licensing agreement. You may as well be pirating.

To give you an idea... At work we got audited by Autodesk and they threatened to fine us just because we were still using old version of their software. Evidentally, per the contract when we bought some new licenses we were supposed to have gotten rid of the older versions.

Commercial licenses are pretty strict, you can't resell them.

  3. hose who cant understand any more advanced mechanics will love this game.

Casual console players destroying good PC games with every year that passes.

    ain't that the truth. :|

The more gameplay vids I see the more weary I am.... I'm going to stop watching them now and just wait till I get my hands on the real thing.

Oblivion's combat mechanics sucked balls pretty much so I guess we shouldn't be too surprised as to how it turned out. I only wish they spent more time with it, there was so much potential.

  4. I remember trying out an early trackIR headset like 8 years ago at e3. They don't work too well with fps'.

I really want to get a vuzix 920, though. It could be awesome with flight and driving sims.

  5. I saw this earlier, I stopped reading after he said that he had never played a fallout game before. How is he supposed to be convincing anybody? More like reaffirming oblivon fans that the game will be good.

    I hate game "journalists".

    /rant

I need to get off my ass and go preorder the collectors edition, though... can't wait.

  6. i'm not canadian so I have no business giving my .2c about the subject but I figure I will. Feel free to ignore it.

Gov't projects like this should probably the least of the worries of a government and I wouldn't cast my vote purely on the basis of this new media stuff. You should look at the bigger picture.

    I'm not a fan of gov't handouts/subsidies/etc.

  7. t-72's are about a generation behind modern tanks, but they are no slouches. Especially in Aftrica where they aren't going to go up against any armor.

The pirates won't be able to do anything with the cargo other than sell it, they probably don't have the means to get offload them from the ship let alone enough knowledge to even operate them.

Russia is probably going to want their tanks back, I don't see this ending well.

  8. I just got a news update about this... the mods include age of chivalry, insurgency, zombie panic, and a few others.

Congrats to all involved. It was pretty awesome of valve to do this.

I couldn't find a news item anywhere on their site... weird.

here is the copied press release from steam:

"As a part of our continuing efforts to support the MOD community, we will begin hosting selected MODs directly on Steam starting next week. The first five MODs to ship on steam will be Age of Chivalry, D.I.P.R.I.P., Insurgency, Synergy, and Zombie Panic. As always, owners of any Source game will be able to download and play all of these MODs for free.

Once installed, these MODs will appear in your "My Games" list and will receive automatic updates just like other games on Steam. Also, these MODs now take advantage of Steamworks, which provides stat tracking and tighter integration with the Steam community.

We're excited to see MOD developers get wider recognition for the hard work they have done, and we hope to support more MOD teams in the future. Watch for the official release next week!"

  9. I don't do any of this. :shifty: I keep myself moderately healthy by walking at a regular pace, without any conditions or goals, when I'm doing something else like getting groceries or visiting a friend. I couldn't run seven km (or even seven miles, stupid metric system!), but I can't think of a single reason why I would need or want to. :v

If you can't run 7km I don't think you could run 7mi.

Seriously though, 3mi/5km is a good distance to get your cardio going. It is not necessary to run any further as you are just puting undue stress on your joints. Otherwise just start biking.

I used to run a lot and ended up w/ tendinitis and then bursitis. I prefer low impact exercises now.

  10. Yeah if you're going to study, avoid "game design" programs... They have bad rep in the industry and well...they are pretty useless.

I have to agree with this. If you want a degree make sure you go to a accredited university and get some sort of design degree (industrial, environmental, graphic, whatever) This will give you a traditional and conventional art foundation that will carry into the workplace. Those game design degrees are so specific they are pretty much useless. You may not study the specific tools that you need to or as in-depth, but that should be something you do on your own time. While a good portfolio is most definitely your most important asset, having a bachelor's will help you tremendously.

Most of the stuff that they teach in these 'game design schools' is stuff you could be learning on your own. There are a few legitimate places for game design curriculum like digipen, full sail, and SMU. At this time though I would still recommend getting a traditional BS or BA and in the process taking up the skills you will need to get you your job.

  11. ":3dxfqceo]

I wish they would have shown some dialog or general roaming of the wasteland.

On 3 minutes? How on hearth would they do that?

I've been to plenty of presentations at e3 that went on for 30 mins. I'm just sayin' it would be nice to show something off besides the combat, afterall they said it themselves that they didn't set out to make a fps.

I'm not trying to beat down on it. I'm looking forward to this as much as anyone else, I think I just had too high of hopes.

    Those nma-fallout guys are idiots.

  12. The animations don't look too hot (use mocap dammit!), combat looks kind of clunky. :|

I'm going to buy it regardless, hopefully the story is good enough. I wish they would have shown some dialog or general roaming of the wasteland.

  13. Sounds like a dead hard-drive. I had pretty much the same problem with my laptop. You can probably download a hard drive diagnostic tool from your hard drive manufacturer that should pinpoint the problem. The drive is probably toast though, if you have one laying around I'd give it a try and see if that is what is wrong.

and chilling the harddrive like someone suggested works pretty good in some cases. I was able to get mine running long enough to transfer a few files on a thumbdrive.

  14. I've run into a few devs on other forums (car forums) and they sort've had the 9-5 attitude. One was a producer and one an artist. Both were empolyed at AAA studios. I think it comes down to the fact that this is a passion/hobby for us. It is just a job for some people unfortunately.

Also interesting tidbit is that I once asked the artist-guy how he stumbled into the video game business. He said he dropped out of art school (not sure exactly what he studied), was working at an auto body shop painting cars for awhile and a friend offered him a job. I always have wondered how many people have stumbled into this business rather than sought it out.

I'm in the architecture field myself, level design/env art is just a casual hobby ( I wish I could spend more time, tbh). Not sure if I want to go the vid-game route yet, though.
