  1. Ha, possible, yeah... I played it on release. It also wouldn't surprised me if the game actually ran worse on the PS4 pro, as they could have tonned back a lot of graphical stuff on the base PS4 to run better, and maybe punched it up too much on the pro, but yeah I remember It got pretty bad.

I wanna play this again, the DLC they release is a good excuse to give it another run. I gotta get my hands on a RTX card first, and the odds of that happening aren't very high.

I experienced basically zero FPS stuttering unless it was super insane with dozens of explosions happening.

Did you play on the pro? I can't for the life of me remember if I already had my ps4pro or not, but I do remember crazy drops during heavy combat, so it could be I was still on the base ps4?

Oh I was just thinking this morning I need to check what’s free this week.

I have it on PS4 and will play it on there first, but if is good as everybody says I would enjoy replaying it once I have a new machine that can run all the fancy stuff.

I was actually thinking if to start this again, I tried and did like the very first but when you meet first survivors, but was so shattered that night I was actually falling asleep pad in hand.

Maybe after Uncharted 4, I should be very near the end of that one.

If you can play it on PC, i'd play there instead. On PS4, the game suffers from really bad FPS stuttering during combat, and some bad screen space reflections.

I actually picked it up again (after trying it before and not liking it), but second time, I actually quite like it :D Love what they do with the gameplay once you unlock a few abilities. Can tell they put a lot of love in this game!

  5. Alright, finally finished this... (took me around 11 hours)

Almost everything that makes a RE game great to me is barely present here, apart from the final level of the game which was pretty good.

The bad: Barely no survival horror elements, no decent music, you never need to do any inventory management as herbs and other stuff don't really go on your inventory (??), every time I was out of ammo I'd just go to crafting menu and make more, making the exploration almost needless. The story is full of holes, the dialog is really bad even for RE standards, Ethan is the most unlikable game protagonist I've ever seen, there's barely any puzzles and the ones that there are are really easy, there's no exploration at all and the game is actually really linear with some sporadic backtracking, all the cutscenes in the first couple hours are really annoying and not needed at all.

The good: I did like the lighting, the setting is really interesting, the environmental art and texture work is gorgeous, the combat is fun, the lycan are awesome to fight, the initial pre-rendered cutscene is very david lynch-like, and I loved how it actually makes an allegory to the overall game's plot, I wish the game actually connected it better than it did.

There's elements of a good game in here at times, but don't come in expecting a good survival horror game. It's a bit disappoint specially with how good 7 was, but after RE3 remake we should maybe have expected this? lol

    Spoiler

The baby level was dope! Probably the most memorable part.

my favorite level was the factory, I wish the rest of the game was more like it.

Am really interested to see how collisions are being handled in these insanely detailed worlds. A multiplayer game with lots of players doing collision tests against this kind of geometry must be expensive as fuck. Or they have just offloaded modelling time onto making collisions instead...

Good question. I don't see why collision couldn't be "LODable", just like the render geo is with Nanite, it's just triangles.

  7. Not yet... they really need to study what valve did with the in-editor modeling and UV'ing tools of source2. UE4 modeling system (Brush editor) is still too primitive and clunky.

They need to sit down with people that actually make games, and ask them how their workflow is, and act on it. All of what we see up there on that video is absolutely fantastic, and it's one step closer to a one shop application for game development (the animation stuff is amazing, for instance) but they really need to work on their brush editing mode too, it'd give the chance for people who find Maya, Max or Blender still too daunting to delve into, the ability to at least do some modeling in UE5, and actually be shippable, not just treated as a function to blockout temp geo.

If you are given weapons that can kill what's trying to kill you then the game ceases to be genuinely scary.

You might be onto something here, the scariest parts of the game thus far, is exactly where they take all your inventory away temporarily.

Looking forward to seeing the mental health fallout explosion from this.

Yeah man, years from now Covid will feel like a tiny thing compared to what this shit is doing to people's mental health.

I think we all know people that are getting hit pretty hard by this, specially the ones who spend their days watching the news and scrolling the socials.

One good thing it did for me, is to underline the importance of family (immediate or not), being away from them during this past year and a half was pretty painful to me, my sister had a little girl, she's now 18 months and I haven't seen her yet aside from video chat.
Before all this, my career always came first, I'm living the dream making games, hanging around with nerds that are way smarter than I am, living in new countries, what's not to like... But I dunno man, guess as you grow older you change specially when there's a catalyst like a fucking worldwide pandemic. Could be I'm just in serious need of a long vacation, as I'm sure we all are. ahah

    Is it actually scary?

There was a couple times where I clenched my butt cheeks, that's about it. But let's be honest... Was RE ever a scary game? I think 7 was pretty grim, but that one was actually against the norm of the franchise. It's a action survival horror franchise sure, but they were never meant to be horrifying and terror inducing games.

  11. I'm taking my time with it, playing like 20/30 minutes a day. The environment art is phenomenal, paired with really decent lighting system and well idealized art direction.

Gameplay is just more RE. I feel they tried to blend the best things about RE4 with RE7 on this one, with varying degrees of success. I can tell you there's muuuch more to the game than just the stuff they've shown in the trailers, which is really awesome.

Oh, also seems like you can be done with it in 10/12 hours, which is perfect for me.
