    Elden Ring

I really have no words for this game, it’s easily the best adventure game I’ve ever played and maybe the most addictive experience I’ve had since Oblivion. Shockingly good

    Steam Deck

“What’s with the film crew?” Lol.

    Elden Ring

I finally feel like I understand the appeal of the game. Had a brutal learning curve as a first time Soul's player, but got my horsey and rode around grinding mobs, and even just that core gameplay loop is definitely a blast.

    Elden Ring

My first hour or two of this game consisted of walking around the pretty open world, not making much progress, and dying a lot Impressed by some of the design aspects already.

    Elden Ring

The hype train is in full effect. It seems like this one is getting the reviews I was hoping Cyberpunk would get. My body is ready. Cannot even remember the last time I was so pumped for AAA title... Alyx, I guess?
  6. Really can’t recommend Righteous Gemstones enough
  7. really good detective film, and another Kurosawa movie. Beginning to notice a trend in the hilariously brutal deadpan way he ends his films… kind of feels like a door slamming shut and hitting you in the face with a cold pie at the same time. for me, his endings kind of steal the show with these painfully accurate views of human folly and make it challenging to discuss much else about the films. I guess his definition of a great ending was simply something haunting.
  8. watched Possession (1981). I just love how uncompromising this is. https://archive.org/details/possession.1981.1080p.brrip.x264.aacetrg As I age and survey the artwork I really like, this uncompromising aspect seems to be a huge common denominator, much more so than any other factor (aesthetic, political, budgetary, etc). The actors say this film took them to the brink of insanity and I can very easily believe them, there is just no pull back in the performances. There are so many things I would personally change or do differently with a film like this, but unlike most films, changing anything would feel pointless here. The director’s bizarre intentions and decisions are actually the only consistent through line to the piece itself. Much like David Lynch’s work, I wouldn’t know how to change it to make it *better*, without ultimately moving it in a more focused and conventional direction. I came away pretty impressed. The views of Cold War Berlin are pretty astounding as well, the environments and scenery are really remarkably stark and cold and beautiful. The metaphors are at once pretty surface level (divorce, the Berlin Wall) but also not completely articulable (the whole supernatural aspect). Unfortunately, sound mixing is so bad that subtitles are kind of a must. I feel like I missed a good 30% of the dialogue, and the dialogue is surprisingly good and well written, so it is really a pity how hard it can be to hear the lines. I would recommend this very highly to people who like Lynch, but there are also really strong Cronenberg vibes.
  9. I really like how that turned out
  10. Well, I guess we can kiss this game goodbye. Kind of hard to finish a game when your country gets invaded.
  11. Been watching Smiling Friends. pretty awesome
  12. It also reminds me a lot of Signs. Ironically I thought Signs was decent (for a bad movie), but it’s not an association I would really want as a director. It seems very likely that Peele would study Signs and take a few cues from it in terms of what to do and what not to do. The scene of the alien walking through the barn could literally just be a clip of Signs lol.

    Atomic Heart

I think you have to take the good with the bad with this game, it seems completely all over the place and random. Sometimes it's going to work and sometimes it's just going to be goofy. At least it all *looks* fantastic.
  14. I thought Get Out was quite good, and Us pretty bad even if it was well crafted. Should be interesting to see where this one lands.

Not real but honestly kind of a neat bait

    Elden Ring

I have literally never played a Souls game. It's hard to explain why, I guess I felt the gist of what the experience would be was kind of made clear by gifs people posted of them dying, a lot, in seemingly extremely lame ways. The combat loop and combat progression seemed to be the focus, which is fine, but it's sort of Capcomy (if that makes sense) and grindy... learn the boss patterns after dying 1000 times. It's hard for me to get excited about that level of tedious work. This, on the other hand, looks like it's going to add a Breath of the Wild type of experience on top of those raw fundamentals, with a greater emphasis on story right off the bat. I can get excited about a dark Breath of the Wild. Plus the graphics are excellent this time. I am still a little concerned that I will not enjoy dying to the same boss 1000 times.

    Atomic Heart

other than the terrible voice acting this actually looks insanely dope
  18. the stories about the new red dead made it seem like they took half the development team and shoved them in a giant blender. gonna be interesting to see the ones after this!

    Elden Ring

Bought the deluxe edition, don't think I've ever actually done that with a game before. Excited to peep the art book.

    Mapcore Studio

I would still enjoy collabing with a few people on Mapcore that I think are really talented and I’m a big fan of. IMO the issue back then was that modding Source was not really enjoyable due to the technical headaches and mediocre graphical and technical results. We could have worked on UE4 I guess. IMO the issue now is that people are working on big projects of their own that they are really passionate about. I have good hope for Source 2 that when it gets a pancake experience people could pick up modding in a big way again. That might be the best time frame for people here to work on cool projects together. In a way, it’s surprising to me that more people aren’t already using Source 2, but I think that’s a result of the VR focus. I would definitely get a kick out of working with people like @Minos@-HP- @PogoP and others. As we are getting older we might not agree on as much though
  21. I hope it is Vice City. A lot of younger people never played the original, and Cocaine cowboys makes it clear what a disaster Miami was in the 70s and 80s. Murder capital of the entire world, drug lords getting bayoneted in the middle of airport terminals. Pretty much anything is believable in that setting, it’s perfect for a GTA sequel.
  22. Yep, agreed. It's a clear phenomenon at this point, it would be interesting to understand what it actually means
  23. I was really curious about all of the consolidation of the industry, so I did some googling. Honestly it does not seem like the best or healthiest sign, I don't know enough about economics to say what consolidation says about an overall industry, some of the articles said it pointed to decline, but maybe innovations like VR will shake things up in the future and introduce some more competition.
  24. The fact that this movie is 3 hours long. It’s either going to be great or awful and interminable
