  1. Hey all, I just wanted to let you guys know that im now selling High Resolution prints of most of the art work on my site. Head of and check it out. http://www.monkah-design.com Regards, Dan
  2. Hey there peeps, Ive had some more inspiration to start a new map. It will be a Death Match Map, set in a small but very modern train station. The 'cage' of the map i have stolen from an old map i had. (http://www.monkah-design.com/env_stat.html) Expect some contemporary sculpture and modern urban feel to the level. I will keep this thread updated. 16/07/2007 So for now, i have fleshed out the station as a whole but im only really ready to show an early WIP of the detailed Front Desk and Staircase. Enjoy! Dan
  3. considered the photoshop option but i like the way they look and lead the eye across the background. That whole area reminds me of something out of Myst, especially when you see all the mechanical elements set against the rural backdrop.
  4. Hey all, I have a few more picys for you to gander at! 3 new sets on my new camera. Im going to have to find a nice online archiver soon enough, im not sure how much more bandwidth my host will allow. Anyway, here are the sets. Landscapes: http://www.monkah-design.com/digi_lnd.htm Black & Whites: http://www.monkah-design.com/digi_bw.htm Portraits: http://www.monkah-design.com/digi_pt.html Enjoy and id like to hear some crits/comments D

  7. Hey all. I recently moved accross my steam along with games and SDK saved maps/textures etc to a new computer. Everything seems to be fine except the fact that none of my (Currently 3) games appear in the Source SDK tool menu. Does any body know of this problem and if so how to go about fixing it? Thanks in advance, Dan
  8. Awesome pics i especially love the 4th one. Really demonstrates the predictive and fast paced nature of the game. Great work!
  9. Yeah the compression is pretty high on the Birch one. cheers for the comments though peeps!
  10. Really nice shots and credit where it is due! One thing i love about photographing nature is that in actual fact you dont need to do an awful lot to get a great photograph. I am however very impressed with the scale in these images, something you rarely see, although im sure you'll feel the environment felt a hell of a lot bigger in real life. Which camera did you use? D
  11. Hey peeps, Ive started working on art stuffs again. Went out for a ride today and grabbed a fair few images but only put 4 up on my site. Tell me what you think, but go easy, ive been away from my arty faty photography for some time now.... nah im only kidding, im a big boy, Be brutal! TIP-click the larger images to open in their own window. http://www.monkah-design.com/o2d_view.html Dan
  12. Hey peeps, again thanks for the wise and kind words. Unfortunatley ive hit a bit of problem with all things PC. Basically mine is a heap of shit and i need a new machine. But i dont have any cash and to get a job (Where i want one) i need my PC to be working...... so here we hit the catch 22. Sooo, looks like i need a shitty part time job to buy a better machine, to get a proper job and pay off all my debts. FUN FUN FUN. Take it easy peeps, ill try creasing a few more art works out soon. D
  13. Hehe, why thankyou. The first piece is by far my favorite, i suppose because it inspired the rest. But your right about the thick atmosphere, i think i'd like to visit this place in real life..... if only it existed.
  14. Like the header says peeps. Its been a long time coming and many of you may have forgotten..... http://www.monkah-design.com/env_slrd.html enjoy the downloads and be sure to check various other updates on http://www.monkah-design.com/ Dan
  15. Its back up now. It seems ive met my monthly traffic limit in about 10 days. Ive bought some more bandwidth to last until the end of the month, but in turn ive had to lessen the quality and image size of the pics. Ive youd like to download the pieces for backgrounds, contact me at mrmonkah[at]hotmail.com Dan
  16. Okay folks, Ive re-designed the piece. Hopefully it is an improvement. I think it is. Let me know what you think, Dan http://www.monkah-design.com/env_slrd.html
  17. this is true, The clouds are a little dull in places granted. There is grain in the piece, below the blurs though. I also wanted a very tight band of focus, this stems from my obsession with composition from my photography years. There is good reason for the blur, its technically more plasuable if your willing to see it that way. Again, Art is a very subjective topic and i appreciate your thoughts. Im thinking about working on the piece again in photoshop. It does look a little rushed. All the best, Dan
  18. Hey again peeps, Part 2 of 4 of my 'Silent' art work. This time set in a Graveyard. http://www.monkah-design.com/env_slrd.html In order to keep the consistancy i have opted for a similar building in the background with the same windows and brickwork. I also roughly used the same colour toning as the last. Any crits and comments for next time are most welcome, also any ideas on some more 'areas' would be a great help. Im thinking a childres playground, next to a country pub. All the best, Dan
  19. Thanks for the kind words. The blur i added more than anything to take lead your eye away from the drab, boring areas of the piece and make you look at the buildings in the scene. Having said this, i have to stand by my guns and say im pretty fond of the old bluring effect, always have been. Cheers, Dan More similar works soon.
  20. Hey there, Ive started making a series of images using the source engine called Source Art. Here is my first piece. Took about a day to complete all in all, let me know what you think. 21. I have to say i knew that reloading a map doesn't work, i tried that in the past to no avail. Im loving the fact that you have to load your map, to load another to re-load your own again. Thats streamlined efficiency if ever I saw it! Now i get another few mins to stare into space and regret losing precious moments of my life! JOY! Take it easy peeps, and thanks again. Dan
  22. Hey chaps, thanks for all your advice, all very useful. Though i think i knew most already. I found a solution though! I shut down my PC. Came back to it today, and didn't re compile the map, and lone behold, when i opened it in DM, the railings were fine. Oh how i love steam and the source engine. Its mystical ways fascinate me. D
  23. Hey there peeps, Im having intermittent problems with my static props. First of all i had covered all my hand rails with playerclip brush work, thinking thats what was needed. However I noticed that all the props wern't getting the light data from the surrounding lights and so turned light blue. To fix this i deleted all the player clips surrounding the props and it seemed to fix the problem. I went about adding more bits and pieces to the map and the next time i came to compile the map i got the glowing props again. Any thoughts on what the hell this is about? Its a really daft issue that spoils the map. Im hoping it will be something simple. Before you ask, yes there are a ton of env_cubemaps about the place, and ive built them in game etc etc. Thanks in advance, Dan
  24. Yo hessi, Ever the savior! Clicking the yellow circle simply reverts to the local co-ordinates and doesn't achieve the desired transform! Deleting the history i think is the best bet, though i am yet to try out this! Thus far ive used simple work arounds that take perhaps 3 times as long as the simplistic 'global' co-ords that appear on the video tuts. Alas, all is not lost, just that things take longer. Boo hoo! D
  25. Hey, thanks for the advice so far.......... as for the widget problem, if you take a look at the pic again, you can see that the widget is FAR from the centre of the edges selected. 'Normally' the widget would be centred on those edges to have a global and/or equal effect on all the edges.
