Aren't they making Lego Indiana Jones too? Swear I read that somewhere ...

Fantastic stuff guys. That thread on Polycount is excellent stuff and I am def going to have a go at modelling myself up a few rocks. Thx for those tuts too Method, I'll be giving them a go.
-
I really like it. The atmosphere it evokes is very reminiscent of Stalker. It looks perhaps slightly lower poly than necessary in one or two places, but then that's the age old fight of performance vs. looks I guess. I am not familiar with the zm_ prefix which mod is this for?

Interesting tutorial Dissonance. Thanks.

Yeah I know what you are saying Peris, and I have played around with this a fair bit trying to improve, but still, I find myself just banging my head against a brick wall with it. Perhaps I'll post up some stuff I have made and you guys can suggest some improvements. That's might be a good way to go.

Hey guys and girls ... wait, who am I kidding ... Guys, I am looking for some advice, help, links or whatever to help me in the creation of some really good quality rock textures. Now I have done a fair bit if searching and experimentation myself, and have tried the render diffuse clouds and spotlight technique suggested in various tutorials to moderate success. I have also tried working from a variety of rock photos working at layering different parts of different rock pictures together as desaturated overlay layers to create a composite texture. However most of my results come out at best as average. I don't seem to be able to make nice textures with lots of detail that can tile, without them showing up horrible tiling patterns. I find, to my frustration, that working the tiling out of the textures, tends to homogonise the whole thing and I lose all the detail. Likewise trying to work variation and detail back into the texture seems to just bring back the horrible tiling. Its annoying since pretty much anything else I seem to be able to tile decently enough, offset filter, clone and heal brush stylee, but rock ... just doesn't seem to work. Looking at the rock textures in EP2 and the kind of stuff artists here like Phil K have turned out, I think I am missing some vital aspect of the creation process and or I am just plain doing it wrong. Whilst I am no artist, and don't hope to suddenly miraculously create amazing texture work by clicking a few filters, I am hopeful that you guys can give me some advice and pointers to help me improve the crap I am currently turning out. I am pretty proficient with Photoshop technically, and have been able to turn out a variety of reasonable textures, but rock, god damn it, I just don't seem to be able to get looking good. Any tips, pointers or advice would be really appreciated.

That's my new desktop sorted then

Just about bang on really Tom. In a world of X billion people there will always be someone who ends up in a place where they want to go out and kill others. It's horrific for sure and I hope to never have any first hand experience of it but at the same time it's pure statistics.

So basically its back to making textures and models for a month or two while Valve sorts out the mess? Actually think I'll make a nice 1.6 xmas themed map
-
This movie will either: a) Get everyone back into the franchise and reminiscing over how cool it was. b) Bury the franchise and destroy Duchovny and Anderson's careers. I honestly hope it's the former, but I suspect it may end up being the latter.

Buy a new PC It's really _that_ demanding a map.

Nice merge of styles. As Minos says not very original but well executed and I am sure it will be very popular

You may laugh but one of the games that has given me the most enjoyment on my 360 was Lego Star Wars 2. Looks stunning on a nice big HD telly and is simply loads n loads of fun to play. Even my missus got into it and we ended up playing through pretty much the whole game together. Great humour, animations, environments, character models and sound. Def worth a look in if you can pick it up cheap.

Loads of atmosphere in those shots. Very nice

Kinda relevent-ish. I am in the process of sorting out a LAN meet in Brighton (South Coast UK 1 hour from London on the train) in Jan/Feb next year. It's primarily being done for the benefit of the Clan I have been part of for the last many years, though there will be plenty of other random people from the internets coming along too. Its an 18+ event, and most of the folks coming are proper old school gamers, so no annoying kids will be there. The venue is a large private room above a Pub in a central part of the city and most importantly its gonna be nice and cheap in terms of both and beer and accomodation since its outside London. If anyone fancies coming along you are most welcome. Its a bring your own PC so that may be a problem for you international folks, but several of the people coming have multiple PCs and we can always take turns I'll post up more info about it in another thread later this year once things are organised a little better. But shout if yer interested.

If the missus is cool with it (have to check) I can probably put up a couple of people on sofas in me front room. I live about an hour on the train from London. Not exactly next door I know, but hey free accomodation is worth an hours travelling right?
-
From my experience of travelling to Cpn its even more expensive than London. And the beer is very expensive.
-
If it's in London I'll come along. If its further away it depends on my cash flow at the time.
-
Its very dark there for a very long time. What else is there to do...

How do you think the rest of us got jobs huh?

Anyone else part of the beta test? I hit them with the 'I'm a games designer' line and they mailed me a key. Beta is like 4.8G DL though. Yikes.

Very nice looking stuff mate. Do you work in games dev?

Great stuff mate. I don't know where you find the time to do this and hold down a job!

Just figured out what it reminds me of. Dunno if anyone has read Michael Moorcock' History of the Runestaff, but all the armies of the nation of GranBretan wear beast masks to denote which order they are part of. The description of the masks in the book is very similar to this. Anyways I digress. Props to you Adam, looking very nice.
