  1. Hmm, without going into details, that's not a reason we were given. But then who am I to contradict Yoshida San. I wonder (and this is just my personal opinion) if in a year or two we will see a reversal of this and a move back to action based titles for Sony's European studios, when they realise all they have are US and Japanese action games and a portfolio of lifestyle titles that simply don't appeal to their hardcore consumer base. This industry is too prone to kneejerk decisions and over-reaction.
  2. XBL: code303
  3. Cheers guys. I think I should be able to use a bunch of stuff for a portfolio, Sony are generally pretty good to their employees so I can use work made her to help if/when I move on. As it goes I don't know how essential it will actually be though, every job I have ever gotten in the industry was due to people I knew and had worked with previously recommending me. This looks likely to be the route into my next job too. Regarding the project itself it's a real shame that more of the game wasn't exposed to the public. The title had masses of content ready and the alpha was far in advance of anything shown in '06. I guess it's a stark reminder to myself and everyone else looking in, that the games business is just that. A business. Still life moves on and you never know, I might even end up working with some Mapcorians next
  4. Hey guys, not been on here for a few days. Mostly been out getting pissed and commiserating the end of what was for me almost two and a half years work. The canning was in the end a business decision, and no reflection on the quality of the project, though this fact doesn't help the team of 60 plus people who have been pouring their souls into the title... I'm still working at Sony right now on an unannounced project, but things like this make you carefully reconsider your options. The three to fours hours a day commuting into central London is considerably tougher now that I know that neither of these games will never see the light of day (I've worked on both titles during my time here). It's gutting, especially as the decision was entirely nothing to do with the quality of the title, which I think is the best game by far I have ever worked on. All those environments, levels, characters, systems, animations and VFX essentially written off. It's enough cry over...
  5. This is likely the final motivation for me to get off my arse and build a new machine. I can't wait to step back into that world again. Awesome

    COD4 SDK out!

Having seen that the tools were out for CoD4 I was enthused to the point where I thought I might actually start making maps outside of work again. Then I realised it was Radiant and thought better of it... Great game, horrible editor.
  7. As you may have read in the gaming press Phil Harrison, founder and head of worldwide studios at Sony has resigned. Not sure exactly what that means for the company, but speculation abounds, especially after his recent comments stating frustration over Japan's failure to embrace the casual games market. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=33463
  8. Whilst I agree it would probably be a good thing for the community as a whole, I highly doubt it would ever happen, at least not until the next generation of their AI had been written and released. It's tantamount to giving away part of your intellectual property for free. It would certainly be taken by other independent developers, cosmetically altered then shipped as their own. Once compiled it would be hard for Valve to prove it's use by a third party. So whilst I applaud the initiative, I think its futile.

Clearly a(nother) spotlight. Hopefully I'll be able to escape from work for long enough to actually have a go at playing this with you sometime Hessi.
  10. Hellgate London almost to the total exclusion of everything else. Whilst the game has many, many flaws and bugs, it is also horribly addictive.
  11. Not getting it so far this morning @ work on Firefox or IE (Didn't visit from home PC over the weekend just in case..). Hopefully PHPBB3 has fixed it.
  12. I think it's likely you have an undetected infection. Switching to Firefox will not get rid of it nor will it protect you in the future. Buffer underruns are symptomatic of more than one thing. Check out the following links, grab Spybot & Hiijack This, run both then see if you can get a handle on what it might be and how to get rid of it. http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=11900 http://gladiator-antivirus.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=45624
  13. I like it. Fresh new look for a fresh new year. The layout threw me for a couple of mins but it's quick to get used to. Nice one Mojo.
  14. Contrary to my previous post, I just got that trojan come up on the virus scanner here at work.
  15. I am not getting it here at work.
  16. Yeah, I am a hardware whore. "Mapcore - on the bleeding edge of technology"
  17. I think you may be a little out of date on this Thrik? The 65nm process, G92core 8800GTS came out today, check the reviews I posted above. It kicks ass.
  18. Sorry Dux but that's bollocks. Unless you are running a monitor over 24" 1920x1200 I wouldn't bother. GTS has excellent performance and overclockers.co.uk have em in stock as of this afternoon. Doubtful they'll stay in stock long though if the GT was anything to go by. Couple of reviews for you. http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTQzMSwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA== http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/12/10/review_nvidia_8800_gts/

  20. Figured out part of my problems. The archives EA download manager downloads to install the game from are single files similar to Steam's gcfs. Now if you are downloading the cache to a drive formatted to fat32 (I was puling down to a large external drive) fat32 does not allow single files larger than 4g (32 bit) so the download manager would die as soon as the file reached this size. Talk about a fundamental programming f*ckup.
  21. Gah its a catalogue of errors. I now get "You do not have space to install this game" on a drive that has 114g of space on it. I am about to defenestrate my PC and my girlfriend is looking kinda scared.
  22. Not sure if this is an improvement or not I'll stop now, my point is made I think. And people diss Steam ...
  23. Been about an hour since then and it's still coming down. Go EA wooooo!
  24. Yeah some subtle godrays, and possibly a very faint fog to compliment the lightglows.
  25. 3dsm / maya I should imagine. They look ace either way though, wish I could make textures that good...
