Grinwhrl reacted to PogoP in Star Wars Battlefront
Fucking hell, I'd much rather have 12 super polished maps than 33 unpolished to fuck ones. Jesus christ, some people are imbeciles. Pretty pathetic comparisons really, more of stuff does not = more fun. As well, levels and models etc were much quicker to make back then as everything was so basic...

And yet it'll still probably be a much better game than Battlefront 2.

Grinwhrl reacted to Hipshot in GTA V
There's actually a few things I already liked better with GTA4 and older 3d-gtas
The cars are too strong in this game, they never gets destroyed from impacts, at least not comparable to the older games and now I'm not even counting upgrading the armor level.
Cops are way stupid, easily avoidable and it takes too much time to raise the star-level
The scope on the rifles are actually worse than no scope (in TPS) - it's just in the way, makes the weapon larger
Ironsight/Scope are worse than hipshooting (in FPS) - cause the white/red dot disappears.
The way you get and find missions takes too much time and it's annoying to have to replay some missions and heists over and over again cause different people host.

What??? They're taking 75%?! I haven't read that last night (nor remember reading about the Valve games that offer monetization) it's absurd unless they keep like 20 and the most goes to original game dev.
But still I find this very quite unfair to mod devs, they're using proprietary tech and tools, assets, but still the work is theirs… and so many mods are total conversions! How is that fair, they're only using the tech like adopting any engine now freely available.

If money is involved, the whole magic of modding is gone. The freedom of creativity within the community is broken. The workshop here is what gave these games longevity. It expressed the creators talent and expressions. It was a place to start for some, a place to learn for others, etc. Money involved just weakens all of this in my opinion.
Edit: Following up from what Sjonsson and FMPONE said,
I do agree, from a freelancer perspective much like a Youtuber/Streamer, which I was not thinking about earlier; if the market is truly large enough now, its great people could start making decent income doing what they love within the comfort of their home. I hope its somewhat regulated though. Like other people have said, it could be risky to buy some of this stuff and not have it work, or whatever reason.

I do not know what to think about this.
Modding isn't about money, and when you involve money into a hobby like this, it changes things more often than not, for the worse...
At the same time, I don't want to be conservative about anything, just because something is the way it is for years, it doesn't mean it shouldn't be changed, but part of the magic of modding is that it's just a bunch of people having fun fiddling with their favourit games, many times being very creative because they have neither nothing to loose nor nothing to win.
If you start to involve money into this culture, it will undoubtedly change it, people's mindsets will change and they'll be thinking about profit first, which is not a good thing.

I don't see where mods fall into this. It would be neat to have a donate to your favourite mapper/modeller like twitch community. But I will not hold my breath
tbh I think putting the greediness into the equation to where most find their career is troublesome. Modding is meant to encourage and push talents without the carrot over the head. It builds a love to create for passion over the love of money. It pushes ideas over ideas to make the most return.
