  1. well you used a lot of custom props that aren't made by yourself. so although your map is quite solid, it feels kinda inconsistent. anyways the CS kiddies are gonna love the nude hostages
  2. maybe it's just me, but that doesn't make sense regarding the previous sentence Anything that juts out from the wall more than 6 inches uses a normal map (and will require you to make that map piecemeal in photoshop with that filter by hand, not by filtering the entire image, or by making a model for it) postman please explain /the low rider hitler somehow disturbs me more than peris' calvin and hobbes
  3. what kind of highmap do you mean? the only highmaps i know in this context are those for bump maps and those for parallax mapping. both of them are not supported by the source engine and as far as I know, bump maps have been pretty much replaced by normal mapping.
  4. most schools I encountered around Georgia don't have windows. probably to keep down costs for A/C during summer because it's so hot there.
  5. that's really impressive lighting! what entities and settings did you use to achieve that? did you use fog or something or how did you manage do get that blueish look?

    foyer

    looks good
  8. yes you can export them and yes models are somewhat cheaper, but the problem is the vertex lighting. you will get some odd lighting results and dynamic props (physics, npcs) won't cast a shadows on the ground.
  9. best way to convince mapcorians is to show some kickass media there are 2 pages full of sci-fi story yada yada but not a single screenshot. never forget that most of us belong to the NES generation and we have an attention span of a door knob. ...my 2 cents
  10. looks good didn't know that the bundeswehr has pink racing cars though

    Retouch

hehe I remember there was a thread where some mapcorians photoshoped pictures of ugly girls... http://www.mapcore.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2235 and the starter was... DelaZ!!
  12. the media are gonna love that mod and write a lot of nice stuff about us gamers.
  13. jeez why do mod teams have to act like pros nowadays? when I worked for HL1 mods some years ago, there where no "recruitings", "applications", "NDAs" and stuff like that. no offense, but maybe you should at least show us some media beside that fancy banner. anyways, best of luck for your mod. I hope this recruiting thing works out for you
  14. IMO video tutorials are the fastest way to learn modeling or mapping. Way faster than text tutorials or books.

    PSP!!!

I love the DS because it's perfect for all these I'm-waiting-for-the-bus- and I-need-entertainment-while-pooping-in-toilet-situations.
  16. gnomon dvds are quite expensive. 3d buzz is for free. only the download system is a bit annoying.
  17. I wish I was a coder
  18. Is it better than ZBrush?
  19. things I miss: - dynamic shadows - self shadowing - better dynamic lights - no compiling / wysiwyg editor - model scaling in editor - parallax mapping - better workflow when importing textures or models - easier AI scripting (like UE3) . . . you know, I love HL2 and also source - that's why I'm mapping for it. But this engine is definitely not capable for next-gen.
  20. Source engine is already outdated... on the other hand, valve is planning to make HL3 on source
  21. I wish game developers would earn as much money as actors. Maybe one day MTV is gonna show off the cribs of mappers
  22. no, for static props you don't need an idle "animation".
  23. oh you're right. inferno looks great, maybe i should start playing counter-strike.
  24. wow, I love the 3d skybox on the first screenshot. The texture is great, is that some kind of satellite photo?
  25. There were many games that I enjoyed to play but they had no influence on my life. The only game that influences me is Half-Life. Not because I'm a fanboy, but because I'm a mapper... Maybe I misunderstood the word "influence", but for me it means influence on my life. There are some movies, books and also songs that actually changed the way how I view or think about some things. There are some games that get near that experience. For example I felt sad for Max Payne when he found his dead family, or I like Manny from Grim Fandango for being such a nice loser. There are even games with some messages within like the whole immortal-but-slave-thing in Half-Life 2 or the whole don't-be-influenced-by-your-gens-blah in Metal Gear Solid. All these games go in the right direction and I guess there are some other examples. But for me, not a single game that I've played so far has really left me a permanent impression besides "that was fun". Ok of course "fun" is, what games are all about, but it doesn't have to be this way. I think games have the same status like comics in the 50's. At that time comics were only some entertainment for kids, but nowadays comics can be an deep art form as well. /forgive me for my bad english
