Damn, you nailed that scene! Only crit is I'd say lighting is a bit too blue, compared to the concept art. Maybe a tad washed out from the lighting too. The concept doesn't have so much fog/bloom. Nit picks! But seriously impressive sir. With the diffuse on you don't really notice the normal seam on the roof cross piece. I can see hints of it but not nearly as obvious as with just normal/ao.

Problem with their average is they lumped 18-49yrs. If you say "49% are about 33.5(average of 18 & 49), 25% are 18, 26% are 50" it averages out to 34. They should have broken it down into smaller groups, say 5 year intervals. I think you'd see the majority in the 15-20, 20-25, and 25-30 groups. Also, how many 5-10 year olds took this survey? A lot of little kids play Wii/DS/etc, but I doubt any of them are interested in taking a survey. And how many of them buy their own games?

I´m really curious if they remade any of the classic maps. from HP's post..

exoplanets... ...are all hundreds to thousands of years' journey away.

It just makes no sense to send people where the job can be done better, faster, and more safely by a robot. No risk of human life. No one sitting in a can for months/years during transit. And you don't have to worry about getting it back, the robot can just hang out there for eternity. The moon, and maybe Mars are the only reasonable places for a human to go. Neither has anything to do with the space shuttle, though.

The question is : At the maximum level of detail required for a game - the point where the artists no longer have to think/care about poly count - which technology will perform better? Polygon or this? I'd be very surprised if current-gen hardware can handle this technology and look as good as "traditional" tech. But maybe in a few years this will become more feasible.

ULTIMATE CHALLENGE: Design the MapCore logo — new deadline!
twiz replied to Thrik's topic in Official Bulletins
agreed, i like the first one. But I prefer the "classic" cube orientation -
It looks cool, they just need to get the lighting worked out! Lighting is very bland right now.

big improvement! immediately identifiable now.

Ah! That makes more sense. In that case, I'd go with a more polygonal look, metal foil tends to crease in bigger polygon shapes with sharp lines, not in circularish blobs. Definitely need hard angles on the highs/lows on the normal map. I think you went too far towards yellow on the coloring, maybe halfway between your orange and yellow. I googled "gold foil", perhaps these will help: http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-photo- ... exture.php http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-3447526 ... -view.html http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-1054261 ... paper.html You could tweak the blue lighting towards purple a bit, that would get you more towards the compliment of yellow-orange. Perhaps this gadget would help you nail down a lighting color that pairs with your wall color: http://kuler.adobe.com/#create/fromacolor

Ah that is better. Previous pics made it look like the floor was an extremely stretched texture. It looks really nice, digging the style and the colors.. but I have to ask.. What is the orange wall supposed to be? I can't tell if it is soft or hard. Kinda looks like painted orange concrete or something, but with the noise in the concrete much too large(both in scale and depth). TBH right now it looks like the wall is a cheeto. Maybe I'm just hungry...

can we create a KT and Rick_D love thread so they can stop trolling each other in threads discussing people dying? Thanks.

glenn beck said something fucking stupid? Shocking. He is obsessed with Nazism, constantly making correlations between random shit and Nazis. Horrible that this happened. And I wish Glenn wasn't around to rub his shit in the wounds.

New poster! Most expensive one I've purchased yet, my addiction is starting to get costly...

so when can we play it :derp:

what? lol Plot was thin, boring, nonsensical. Acting other than Ledger/Oldman/Caine/Freeman was dreadful (specifically bale/eckhart who were the majority of the movie. gyllenhaal was bad too... but no surprise there.) Just nothing made any sense to me, even in a comic book way. Bale and Eckhart were just painful to watch. For a two and a half hour movie, a meandering, boring, inane plot is a death sentence for me. No amount of special effects, or "omg so badass" moments, or good acting, or good cinematography can save it from that. Again: IMHO. I know everyone else on the planet loves the movie. And I really love Batman Begins.

OOOh it says its the "Epic Conclusion". So I'm assuming this is the last one? Ever! YAY! Not going to see either one. Was never that interested in spiderman and dark knight was just awful (imho.)

Considering ps1 games made the leap to handheld devices (PSP) in almost exactly 10 years(1994-2004), and since the 360 is nearly 6 years old now(released nov 2005)... I'd say you're pretty close on that prediction! The biggest issue would be controls. A huge chunk of games are eliminated right off the bat because there is no feasible touchscreen control scheme. Most games nowadays don't scale down like that very well. I had a SMB rom on my 1st gen iPhone... and it controlled like shit. Not an issue of hardware capability. It just sucks mashing imaginary buttons that are on top of the screen. But on topic, I have no doubt that Microsoft could put a 360 emulator into Win8, and have no issue running on most modern computers.

Thanks! That is Solidworks' "polished aluminum" material. Solidworks doesn't have the greatest renderer ever, but it leaps ahead of most other engineering/CAD software. The stock materials are sometimes pretty bad.. If you look at the black bits of the injectors(otherwise green/blue), in the first render it looks like tree bark or something.. The material is supposed to be shiny black rubber according to solidworks, but they have some bizarre normal/spec map on it... It sucks because it looks fine in the preview, and only after I dedicate a few hours for a render that I see it looks like crap! I changed it for all the others to a darkened "matte aluminum". I added a throttle body

Spent yesterday practicing my Solidworks/engineering skills. It is an intake for a V8 engine (ford 351c). Not including the time for setting up the renders (aka fighting with solidworks), it took about 6 or 7 hours. Click for big!
