never talked to him much.. always sad to hear something like this. RIP man

The problem is you'll spend $20 on the piece of wood and $8 on the varnish and $3 on the brushes, spend a few hours doing the finishing, and end up with something looking slightly shittier than the ikea version. $30 is pretty damn cheap for a chunk of wood.

The exterior looks gorgeous, the interior is a bit sparse, but that might not be bad considering CS:S gameplay. That big room with lots of chairs/furniture looks like it could be a headache to navigate, esp once the chairs get tossed everywhere from a nade The shadows around the chairs/tables look really strange, desaturated and way too prominent. It looks like all the shadows are being cast straight down? Even the picture frames and the phone are casting massive shadows down. The light fixtures casting shadows down doesn't make sense either... But looks good overall I'll give it a run thru! Any servers?

I just said the freelancer story is exactly what you did, prior to it being placed in the game. I didn't say you placed it in a game or anything I don't think it was a final piece for the game, I don't think they could possibly be that stupid as to intentionally use something so obviously copied in a commercial product. It was in 2 seconds of a pre-alpha gameplay publicity vid and it was immediately noticed... they have to know that they couldn't get away with that in a commercial release. Not saying that some people wouldn't want to take such shortcuts, just saying that I don't think any studio is that stupid, or they wouldn't be a studio for long. I understand why you think it is wrong... I just don't agree. I agree they shouldn't have shown it in a video advertising the game. But I believe that was an oversight, not intentional. They removed that portion of the clip after it was noticed. For the record, I'm not defending the studio, I have no affiliation with them. I think the game looks like crap. I have never bought/played anything done by them... I just don't think what they did is wrong, other than showing it in the vid. I can't imagine this is that uncommon. With most games being based on a handful of engines (loads of stock assets, just from owning a game also built on the same engine), and the abundance of assets free-to-download... there must be loads of placeholding going on that would be illegal to include in the commercial release.

Wat? That is alpha, pre-release... So it isn't a commercial product yet. Nothing wrong with it until they try to sell it, IMO. Showing vid of it wasn't smart, but I have to imagine it wasn't intentional. If I understand the response correctly, it sounds like it was modeled based on NS2 concept art by a "freelance" artist looking to flesh out his portfolio... kinda like what you did with that ME2 concept art... I can totally see somewhere in early production, someone saying "hey we need a resupply box" and this guy saying, "well I modeled one ages ago from NS2 art..." "throw it in and lets playtest!" I really don't see this as a big deal pre-alpha.

Apparently someone who works for them, from the comments on that vid:

It says at the end it is entirely in-game footage. It looks to me like it is mostly cutscenes though, but that is normal for trailers. It looks pretty good to me. I don't think we'll know if it "is" Max Payne until we play it... and I'm sure there will still be debate. If the trailer is any indication, the time of day seems to be around evening/dusk most with some night and some day bits, mostly overcast. But again... we won't know for another 9 months. But it can't be night ALL the time!

Its pretty interesting and funny. And $3. So if you are desiring some good ol' 8-bit rpg fun, recommended!

ooooh that one is nice!! There are two for sale on expressobeans, $120 for one of 'em. A bit pricey for such a small print (11"x14")... Its a giclee too, giclees are usually cheaper(and less awesome) than screenprints. It is a small run (100 prints) and a pretty well known artist, so the price isn't too crazy.. You could probably keep an eye on ebay and pick one up for less than that tho. The problem with those posters is they are highly collectible and limited production runs, pretty much anything by any famous artist sells out in a few minutes... so unless you are sitting at your comp hitting f5 when they go on sale, you have to resort to flippers on ebay who jack up the price. For example, each poster in that Star Wars set (set of 400 ea) by Olly Moss goes for about $450 on ebay, or around $2000 for a numbers-matching set. They sold for $50ea when they originally went on sale. Those are big tho, 24x36 each and screenprints to boot. Olly is a bit more famous than Tom Whalen (who did that Aliens print). I tried for that Olly Moss Star Wars set when it was first released about a year ago, but I missed the drop. Damn it. Coulda turned it into a $1800 hour's work of hitting f5. That is a bit of an extreme example, that star wars series put on by Alamo is highly sought after and Olly is one of the more famous guys. Unless it a super-classic, most of them by the famous artists go in the range of $100-200 on ebay.

I'm a bit partial to this Dr. Strangelove, but I'm biased.. I love the movie and I have this poster

Note that it said "this actual In-Game footage", not "gameplay". Some/all/none of that could be cutscenes! Just sayin'. Not hatin'. Looks purdy.

*hijack thread* They do! Just look up Alamo Drafthouse posters... http://www.expressobeans.com/public/sea ... available= Alamo Drafthouse in Austin replays classic movies and hires the most bad ass poster artists to create new film posters for them. They are Some examples! (some are alamo, some aren't..) BTW the guy who did those Star Wars posters (Olly Moss) recently did the box art for Resistance 3... (actually the box art is a sorta cropped version of this, but I like the full poster better ) *end hijack*

I've been kinda baffled by this too over the past few years. I understand it more in multiplayer, somewhat, for things like "get x kills in a round" or "deal y damage" or "get z kills without taking any damage", things that are unique and require skill. Single player achievements seem to either be grindfest awards or just completely run of the mill.. Like they might as well just put a timer on and give achievements for every hour you play the game. Not sayin they are all like this, just seems to be the status quo.

very cool! Played it thru, took maybe a half hour. 704 button presses I agree the controls are a bit cumbersome, there is a good bit of delay between button press and action, maybe because it has to determine which action you intend by whether you hold the button or not? Although the blocks turn regardless of whether you hold it or not... so I'm not sure. I understand you don't want it drawing little lines everywhere everytime you spin, but maybe retroactively draw from where you started pressing the button rather than once you passed the "are you holding?" threshold. There were numerous attempts that failed because the line started drawing just a little too late, because I pressed the button right when I wanted the line to start. The blocks are also sluggish in spinning, there are several parts which are difficult simply because you have to start spinning immediately after a bounce in order to properly redirect in time. I think the puzzle mechanic is strong enough in this game to where it doesn't need to be made "artificially" harder by requiring super-quick reflexes.

Well, so was cs:s! Graphical upgrades, few new maps, few new guns... sold a bajillion copies. As will this. CS:S players are simple creatures . I play cs:s :embarrassed: I even play the same map. It doesn't make sense but I enjoy it.

This thread needs more love From a recent work trip to TN.. tanker parked outside our hotel.

I didn't get a "harumph" out of that guy!

Like what Puddy said... Blade Runner especially was such a clean an concise story. There is no reason to expand upon the story. I know there was a bit of a cliffhanger left at the end... but that was the point! You weren't ever supposed to know! I am fearful.

warby!! The blue lighting doesn't look bad, but I personally prefer the less-blue of the concept.

mmhmm. Excellent viewing, there. I keep seeing FMJ on my "watch it again" thing on Netflix and have been very tempted.
