I've become curious and downloaded the authoring tools, but hammer freezes on loadup for me as well (running on vista64)

just leave it hanging and it'll eventually "unfreeze".
I get an error when compiling maps which reads "Steam validation rejected". anyone have any idea on how to fix this?

I can't get hammer to boot. using Windows 7 if that matters, don't see why it should though since normal hammer works fine
-
What lightmap scale are you using? Nice and sharp shadows there.
mostly 4 and 1.
thanks for the comments guys

wow, it's been a loooooooong time since I've posted here. I haven't really touched Hammer in little over two years, so I decided to pick it up again just in time for Left 4 Dead

I'm just making myself familiar with the editor and the engine again at this point. Nothing great, but I wanted to share it anyways. (click the shot to get a bigger version)
the lines you see in the ceiling and walls are caused by the texture in use

looks good so far. the edges on the pyramid looks a little streched though.
oh, and do you use the same name on steam? if so, I totally healed you like crazy in TF2 last week:)

It saddens me that DA got such a crappy port, because the other SC games are pretty good on the PC. I hope they take more time with the next one, and show that they care about pc owners as well.

I bought the PDF version, and I'm very happy with what I've read so far. I have a feeling that I'm going to learn a lot from this book
.Thanks Hourences!

Since Norway is not a EU country, I have to pay about 25% of customs. And that sucks balls, basically.
It's the same content in both printed and PDF, so it wouldn't be any other difference that on is on paper and the other is not. Right?
-
I'm really itching to get this book, but if I order it I'll end up paying a shitload of extra for customs and all that crap. Gunning for the PDF version atm

warby, both your colossie look spot on! seems you've hit the style to on the head. good work!

From the looks of it, this book is going to be amazing. This is most defidently a must-buy.

I'm trying to use the smoothing groups function in Hammer, but it doesn't seem to work. I choose the faces I want to smooth (in this case the sides on a cylinder), press any given number in the group-window, and compile only to see no result what so ever.
anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Good luck man! Hope it goes well

Congrats man! best of wishes!

I was very much into spawn back in the day.
mostly because of the kick-ass artwork though

Did anyone watch this?
I just finished watching it, and it sucked ass. I always thought that a video game awards show ould be kind of cool, but not like this.
It was packed with moviestars and the likes, wich has nothing to do with videogames at all.
The entire thing was just stupid, and i hope they never do it again
EDIT: oh, and they called Link (zelda) a dwarf. correct me if i'm wrong, but he's never been a dwarf

KungFuSquirrel: a hint of inspiration from Katamari Damacy?

I would... hit the kid so hard that he turned from a boy to a girl and the Xenon turned in to a pony. She would be happy for the rest of her life, or untill I hit the pony so hard it turns in to a ferrari.
um, why do you keep calling it a xenon, its kind of confusing.
i'm glad someone else than me wanted to ask that as well....
.but, yeah. stupid kid. I knew a guy like that, and I just couldn't stand it. and he was 16 years old at the time

Well, this year has been kind of crappy in my case. Started off pretty good though, being a "russ" and all was pretty fun. Then it just went downhill from there. I barely passed the final-examns, but didn't really care either so that's my own fault. The whole summer I had to watch all of my friends basically either move to the other side of the country, or go to the army. Since then I've done nothing but sit on my ass, with the occasional job every month or so.
The thing I'm looking forward to now, is for this year to end, so that I can get into the army (going there january 10th). Hopefully, that'll be a change of pace.
After that, I'll probably go to some school, but I haven't figured out wich, or where yet, but it'll most likely be outside of Norway.
