I thought the whole animation system is quite excellent after watching this
 

 
I mean instead of selecting the animations to play in your script, you can just pass parameters and the animator controller will handle the transitioning.
Works for certain situations I guess, but I find it very very powerful

I listened to the audiobook a month(?) ago and saw the movie today. Very much enjoyed the movie although wish I hadn't read the book before as it 1) obviously spoiled the movie 2) I was constantly comparing the movie to the book while watching it. I loved the opening scene with the Alien tribute (title and music). Solid 3.5 / 5.0

Wouldn't mind if the movie was 30min longer, the last part felt very rushed. But overall I really enjoyed the movie.

Despite having read the book before, I very much enjoyed the movie. The struggle for survivial didn't get across as much as in the book, but obviously they had to leave out a lot of the details. I do wonder though:
 

Been working with Unity for a couple of months now and it's fantastic. Before, I had this weird and negative attitude towards game engines and UE/Unity type tools. Thoughts like "Using a tool like that is cheating, writing my own game engines is the true way of game development".
This spring I finally got it. 1. I'm not in the game engine development business, I'm in the game development business. 2. I'm one dude, Unity has whole teams purely dedicated to developing tools. 3. They're handing out UE and Unity for free.
Also I put a bigger project on hold and am currently making a platformer game for the past week for Android, mainly as a way to teach myself more Unity. It has a free advertisement based business model, not really expecting a lot of income from it.
Made a semi funny credits level for it today, here's a video:

I turned 28 today. Two years to go for the big 30. I'm getting nervous.

Together with the company I am working for, I just released my first game on Steam ever! I'm so excited!

My name is Brandon or also known as "marti" on ESEA.net or as my IGN in CS:GO on steam. I have been playing video games since I was about 4 years old starting with the era of the super Nintendo and now an avid computer gamer. My dream job is to work on games and be apart of the ever so non-stop growth of gaming. I do not know exactly what I want to do as of yet, but I'm sure I will find something that will fit me well since there are many different opportunities for me in the gaming industry. Released alpha 1.0.0 version for my first game. What an excellent feeling having finally "delivered".
Spent roughly 3+ months working on it, learning new stuff about server programming and Amazon Web Services etc.
More importantly I think I learned a lot about myself and about finding motivation to keep going. Working on a project by yourself
certainly means there's no boss behind your back and no co-workers that do the jobs you're not willing to do. You are responsible of everything.
You can only cheat yourself by not working and procrastinating as there's nobody else.
 
Obviously the game is not the best evar but like an ugly baby, I love it because I made it . Going to make small updates once a week
until I get it to a level that I'm comfortable to release iOS and Android versions of the game.
 
This week I'm going to start learning Unity and next week I'll working on my 2nd game
 
Also excited for spring and summer!
