No i complain about such nonsense as a whole because the show is full of it and it really drags down the overall quality.
One could say "yea but the whole zombie thing is nonsense anyway". That's all fair. Give me mindless over the top and unrealistic popcorn action please. But then they should not try to implement "down to earth" characters and drama. These two approaches bite each other. Add on top of that the bad execution+low production values and you get a whole lot of cheese.

Well what i wonder is if the "casual player" actualy existed before todays generation or wheter it's a monster that the game industry has created themselfes.
On reflection as i said i think this whole casual craze really took off with COD 2. The first one was already pretty succesful on PC. Then COD 2 came out with the 360. The game was suddenly on console and sold a lot. With it also the Hollywoodification and dumbing down of the franchise began. I think publishers just looked at this success and from then on everybody had this idea in their heads that out there live millions of "casual players" who love "streamlined" and over the top games and nothing else.
But this to me seems sorta like a broken window fallacy. Games were popular before that and ppl played fucking hard games on consoles. It's plausible that games would sell just as well today if developers had stuck with more challenging and sophisticated games. And to me it seems also plausible that the dumbed down games created the players who can't cope with challenging and sophisticated games anymore in the first place.

Game was fucking expensive. Missed the 50Euro deal on release day. Then game was sold out everywhere in my town so ended up importing from Austria which cost me 75 Euro. Even for a great game like GTA V that's a pretty hefty price tag so after finishing the campaign i resold why it was still hot. Didn't feel like roaming around first and frankly wasn't interested playing online on PS3. But now i miss the game when i see vids of people having fun. Ah well it's not a big deal. The more i'll be motivated for it again when the PC version comes.

I saw this on neogaf. I haven't really payed too much attention to the new Thief game yet but was looking forward to it being a huge fan of the old games, especially 1+2. But reading this really kills all interest that i have for the game.
Also saw this interview posted which makes the guys sound completely detached from what made the franchise great:

This quote pretty much sums up what's wrong with not just with Thief but big games as a whole these days. What i wonder is, is it really what players want? Or did the gaming industry actualy condition players to play this way? It all started around COD 2 didn't it? I can't imagine that players these days are just born so differently then the generation before.

fov mimimi. boring mimimi. God damn console kids.

On a serious note. It was always what made Thief Thief that most direct encounters with enemies would end with ones dead. If it end up like Dishonored where you can basicly play it as fps then it's not Thief anymore imo.

Something that came to my attention recently is panel lottery. Apparently even for high-end TV's the manufacturers put panels of very different quality in models with the same name/number. So you can't trust reviews. They might have tested on a high quality panel but the model that you buy on the internet has some cheap no name shit from China built in. And the only way to find out is to compare some tiny printed numbers on the backside with lists on the internet. :/

It's still a stylized game not a real life simulation. If more saturated colors and some different color accents make the game look better and let the art that some people put thousands of hours in shine better then i would go for it.
Btw i live in a medieval city center. When i look out the window it doesn't look so washed out. Granted light these days is artificial and ther's lighted ads and whatnot in different colors but it's just a question of will on the side of the art director to come up with something. Thief plays in this half mechanic fantasy world. It wouldn't look out of place to have some different colored light sources. Gas lanterns in different colors, light that comes from behind colored stained glass windows etc.

Wait this is not piracy, as far as I know people are just exploiting a loophole on Xbox Live? Don't companies do that all the time, finding legal loopholes to fuck everyone in the ass?

This is a really stupid move by Microsoft and just one more reason to despise this company. They should at most delete all games downloaded wrongly, you can't punish users for being negligent.

I mean, imagine if this happened to Steam or Amazon, I'm sure they would just give the games to free for everyone else and correct the mistake.

It's not ridiculous. GTA is a sandbox game. It's not a movie. It's not a rail shooter. Both comparisons are a fallacy. Missions are just one option of things to do in this game. Maybe a lot of people just want to do other things. This freedom of choice is the appeal of sandbox games. It's also a luxury. One that Rockstar can afford when they are on a 200m $ budget and make enough dough in the first week to make 5 more of these games.
So it's completely futile to make this a discussion about games as a whole because there arn't so many games around that compare.
If anything i think Rockstar could have pushed the content even a little further. So much attention to small details yet the environment story telling doesn't compare to what Bethesda puts out. In Skyrim or Fallout 3 you can walk in any direction and you find cool little things or surprises all the time. This stuff is still there in Rockstar games but much more sparse. I also think that actualy might one of the reasons why GTA4 wasn't finished more often. I know that i didn't finish it because i was so bored out of my mind by the rest of the game that i just quit wheras in Fallout 3 i put 80 hours into the game before tackling the main story line eventualy.

Obviously MS is well within their rights and if it was a game that i worked on i would be pissed if people do this. But gotta stay realistic from MS perspective and keep their own interests in mind. You don't amputate your leg to fix an ingrown toe nail.

Sounds like pretty stupid move from MS so shortly before launching a new console. Should have been more accommodating, close loopholes and rethink their strategy. Regional locking is such bullshit anyway. Even if break of TOS is obvious you can't blame people to feel entitled when other people who are customers just like them get stuff for free because they happen to be born somewhere else on this planet. It's not fair, feels discriminatory. Showing no leniency just means most of these ppl will buy a PS4 instead of a XBONE.

So i just stand there in front of a hipster, doing nothing. He feels intimidated and says "ok, that's enough. i'm calling the cops". Police arrives, starts shooting at me. Then i go on a rampage with a stolen bus and police don't care.

It's really awesome to drive around during the night with the hood cam and trying to follow traffic rules. This gonna be great on PC with a better fov and some mods to driving physics.

GTAIV does not deserve that score at all. 85 would be closer to the mark.
