  1. edit -- I wrote a big post due to misinterpreting the store UI. Deleted most of it, as it was misleading Also, to the people sneering at the prices: Only a fraction of people will pay those prices, but that's all Valve needs. In "freemium" games where micro-transactions are supported, it's usually the case that only a few percent of players will shell out for items -- but a few percent of hundreds of thousands of active players is a large number! There are some simple tricks you can employ to drive revenue, too. If an item costs 10p, it is perceived as cheap and not very valuable. If you charge £3 for it, then the item's perceived worth is increased. Furthermore, only a subset of customers will even get over the barrier to purchasing -- once they're past that barrier they're going to spend a bit. Personally, after wasting 15 minutes setting up an account, I'd be just as willing to pay £1 for an item as I would be to pay £0.10. Moreover, fewer people may pay the £3 price point, but you may well make a lot more money out of it (as you only need 1 purchase at £3 instead of 30 x £0.10). Throw in 'rare' items with high prices and they're going to make a killing. Valve will monitor and analyse all item prices and sales over time and tweak things to arrive at optimum prices for maximum revenue -- they're not stupid. Lots of companies do this.
  2. I'm sorry to hear this. You'll get snapped up soon though!
  3. Saw this the other day and thought "goddamn"! Nice job fellas!
  4. I'm still on MyWorld -- we're going quiet for a bit I guess . I'm just happy to finally have this thing done & dusted and get back to work. Still no word on the APB sale -- I hope someone takes a punt on it and keeps it in Dundee, but there's no guarantee of anything like that happening :/. There's talk of Eutechnyx trying to set up a new studio in Dundee, too.
  5. People have worked on this thing for 12 years now. I think I can spare £30 or whatever to give this one a go!
  6. That's a very fair, measured assessment.
  7. I'm back, but only kinda. We'll see what happens soon.
  8. Well, we're currently working for RTW under an administrator, but their job (the administrator) is to sell the project to make back some cash.
  9. Well done. Really nice work
  10. I was, yes. Very tough situation is all I'm going to say for now. I need more time to take this in -- been a hell of a week.
  11. RTW is now in administration. http://www.develop-online.net/news/3564 ... nistration
  12. Started playing TF2 again with some friends. Good: They've added shitloads of content. Bad: It's now really bewildering. There's so many items and class loadouts + crafting that it took me a few weeks to know what everything was... Considering TF2 used to be very pick up and play friendly, I find this a bit odd. Valve know what they're doing as usual, though.
  13. Just watched the iPhone video. Carmack really is a terrifying programmer
  14. You can remove me from RTW because the entire MyWorld team got shit-canned yesterday. Ho hum!
  15. It's been a very strange couple of months. In all honesty, the moment restructuring was announced we knew this was the most likely outcome -- we've been living in hope of a reprieve, but they pulled the trigger yesterday. At least we got to show our work to the world before the project was canned.
  16. The demo was short but decent. The major downside for me was that, even in the demo mission, I had "where do I go now?" syndrome in a few places, as when your crew member guy gets shot, your buddy who's carrying him fails to stick close to you even when you take the correct route. You run down the stairs and along the room for quite a bit and nothing happens. The guy then infinitely repeats the same dialogue until you figure out that you have to run along a little further.
  17. I also moved away from Nildram because it became a rip-off bag-of-shit with terrible service / speeds / relability. A real shame considering they used to be one of the best ISPs around. I'm on Be these days and it's excellent.
  18. The construction side of it involves building up the world. The buildings are generated from real world data, and players can use the editor to make improvements and make the world better. Beyond that I probably can't say much here at the moment
  19. All of the buildings in the videos were procedurally generated from GIS data and then quite a few of them were then edited using the building editor which is part of the game. For a few afternoons we just had a beer & build playtest where we downed tools and everyone had a go at making some pretty buildings This is all explained in the second video, but it's not live for some reason. I'll re-add the link when it's available.
  20. Click to see. Teaser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=El5Xc90Z5ZE *edit --There's a second video but it's not live right now. I'll add the link when it's working. Check out the website and videos. It's so good to finally be able to show something publicly
  21. Praise valve for ensuring that we can all download it for nothing when hardly any of us had heard of it before
  22. How about, "Holy shit, flying pirates!" ?
  23. Cool, looks nice. Good luck guys!
  24. Furyo: I'm going to spend this weekend reflecting on the situation and CV writing. Thanks for the kind words; I'll likely be in touch.
  25. It's looking like it
