Newish theme = sex.

- The fact that others are doing it doesn't matter it any more or less correct or wrong for the US to be involved in. God knows what the fuck goes on in those secret prisons in Eastern Europe. - The US is signed to various treaties and agreements for the upholding of human rights globally ie. the Geneva Convention/Universal Declaration of Human Rights. - The US is using human rights as a reason they attacked Iraq for. Not only this, but the US government continued to support Saddam even after these abuses happened, until he put his troops on the Kuwaiti border. It's funny that human rights abuses only matter to the US governments when it supports or furthers their policy. Sudan? Most citizens couldn't even point it out on a map, let alone know there is a genocide taking place there right now. I want to know what happened to the US policing the world, not bullying it. I want to know where the US drew the line, and said "Fuck you, we'll do like we please." I remember a time when the US was a beacon of hope, a shining example of democracy done right and freedoms kept and exercised. Hah, so much for utopia. Not only have these things been lost and its reputation tarnished time and time again, the US is a nation with no shortage of apologists who will support their government to no end, no matter how bad it gets and no matter who they fuck over in the process. There are plenty of great, good-hearted people in the US. There are just too many who don't give a fuck.

Here's what doesn't make sense: if these countries aren't doing anything illegal in the way of torture, why transfer them to the countries in the first place? By this logic, the US should just do the interrogating themselves. Condi may act the fool, but most people can see better.

Outside of the fact that this is just a webforum, you draw a strong and compelling comparison

Is that a custom theme or one by your colleague Michael Heilemann? He did one hell of a job designing k2/Kubrick. I'm personally hacking the shit out of K2 right now over at http://www.version2.iamcolin.com Anyway, the site is very good. I'm loving the graphics alongside the Wordpress-style sidebar/entries. You've also done a great job keeping the site constant across IE and FF, hard to tell the difference. Something you should definitely be commended for.

A sacrifice in features would make it easier to afford and easier to implement, I never said it would make him money... remember, these are just ideas. I can't help but get the feeling you're getting a little jumpy.

Call of Duty 2 won Best Military Shooter... I mean, for what it is, it's a great game... but come on.
-
Yeah, there would obviously be huge hurdles to overcome, but with a sacrifice in features here or there it wouldn't be too taxing on the owners or community. I agree, but that's the beauty of communities, if we all pitch in a little, it has a snowball effect. I'm not suggesting that something like CGTalk would be attainable in the near future, small baby steps is always best, but it is good to have a role model to mould your community after. Whether or not you attain their status or number of features is a completely different monster. It all depends on where the people in charge see this site going and how they figure they'll going to get there. If they're cool with how it is now, grand, but if they aren't, it is handy know there are people out there with ideas that can lend a helping hand.

It's not that there isn't a need or purpose for EOT, it does keep the garbage outside of the other forums, but it's really a catch-22: by having EOT, you're welcoming the content on your forums, and by not having EOT you risk having that content spill into the other forums. Personally, even though I think this impossible due to the forum software, the decision should be left up to the user to completely lock EOT out. For example, when I click "View Posts Since Last Visit" on the homepage, many of the posts are from EOT and these are posts (for the most part) that I have absolutely no desire to even view, let alone read. I think EOT speaks to a greater truth about what Mapcore really is though, a place for mappers to come and "hang out", share their work, and otherwise have fun. Not that there is anything wrong with this, but it's important to cater to your users' interests. I know there is a good portion of the userbase that wouldn't want anything like EOT on Mapcore, but there is another group of members that would likely visit much less if at all if EOT was removed. The situation can be compromised somehow, it's just a matter of getting everyone on the same page and following through in the correct manner. And while we're on the topic, just a word of warning. People like to keep adding new things to try and morph the community into a desired state, but that really isn't a use if you aren't going to follow through on the idea. For example, there are only 6 threads in the Spotlight Gallery forum, and in my opinion you can easily find double that amount of work that deserves to be there. I think a good idea would be to have a submission forum, and current Spotlight Gallery winners would vote on whether the piece of work is good enough for the award. You can go on and on and on and on with ideas about what to do with communities, but the best course of action is to follow through on current ideas and make changes where and when necessary. BTW: If you really wanted to push the boundaries, the mapping community could really use a CGTalk-esque community, where you can upload your maps and screenshots and get great constructive comments on it. In my opinion, a site like that would be invaluable to the gaming community and attract a huge userbase.

It's a good idea, but eventually you run into hurt feelings and inflated egos, no matter how much you'd like to think the better of people.

http://www.insmod.net/info.php Reference the Insurgency Mod's info page for a successful way of doing that. That's been up for God knows how long, and it gives you a good rundown of what the mod is and isn't.

All I'm saying is that the gameplay of Brothers in Arms fits directly into this criteria: "Designing gameplay dynamics that support and perpetuate... a) engagements that are significant and last b) realworld tactics such as maneuvering around the battle field, suppression fire, and flanking c) the use of cover as an effective tool in combat (if you're behind significant cover, but have a bit of a leg or something sticking out, the odds of getting hit are fairly slim) " The battles in Brothers in Arms lasted for a while, and it was tedious to say the least to pick any part of an enemies body off. So as far as your criteria is concerned, you are holding quite close to the Brothers in Arms gameplay model. Then again, you can see the difference between games like Brothers in Arms and Operation Flashpoint, but from my understanding you're planning on having this be a first-person shooter with squad command that includes the 4 Fs (Find, Fix, Flank, Finish). Not that being like Brothers in Arms would be so bad, I personally thought both Road to Hill 30 and Earned in Blood were terrific, just that I find it odd that you would claim Brothers in Arms to be terrible and not be able to properly differenciate your project from it. What I said was that it sounded "like Brothers in Arms", correctly. Whether or not you do break new ground, what I take from your posts so far is that it IS very similar to the Brothers in Arms gameplay model, and whether or not you use a different squad command system the overall gameplay is going to be similar. Then again, it could be otherwise and I could just as easily be wrong/confused. Either way, I didn't want to be a pest but you do have me intrigued and I'm wondering what model you plan to use that will not suffer from the same flaws as Brothers in Arms and other games do. Your game might be nothing like Brothers in Arms, but the gameplay you've laid out so far will draw many comparisons, you had to have known that.

Sounds like Brothers in Arms on Source - that's sex. Good luck

Leave it up to someone to always ruin a perfectly legitimate thread, whether it be discussion about grammar or something completely unnecessary like above. Is it that hard to not respond, or is there something that compells you to be a jackass? -
People can script their own exporters for gmax, so that it can be used by communities. Zacker, you can download an exporter than will allow you to export Wavefront .obj files from gmax, which you can then import in various other programs.

I'm ending high school this June and then going to do a Business degree, after that I'll probably go into Law... Not quite sure. Life is good, my part-time job is pretty well as good as I'm going to find as far as jobs are concerned. The work is interesting, the people are really nice, nothing much else you can ask for as far as I'm concerned. I've met this new girl who is absolutely fantastic... I hope everything works out, but something tells me she's going to play the friend card. I don't have much to talk about with you guys, as I don't know many of you and I don't even map

It's better to criticize the meaning of the message, not the diction. It's like getting an awesome/shitty present and commenting on the wrapping, rather than the present itself. Attack the beef of the post, not the skin.

Anyone who wants religion outlawed is, ironically, being very much an idealist. Realistically, something like this would never happen. Either the good majority of the religions would roll into one or the situation would remain as it is with multiple religions. Since the beginning of the human species, people have been worshiping higher beings. A more realistic solution would be to have the people of every religion stop trying to force their beliefs on others, which would lead to a much more tolerant society. -
I think the idea he was getting at, DaanO, was that buildings of this architecture and style and very rarely built these days and are usually progressing towards a ruined state. The game also takes place in the "future", so this would only have sped the process. It would be nice to see a misplaced brick here and there, etc.

Here's a question about religion: if there's no one around to believe in its God(s), do they actually exist? I ask this question because people have been slaughtering each other for millenia based on many things, one of them being religion. The possibility of human extinction is not completely out of the question here, in this day and age. Personally, I'm a Roman Catholic by birth, but by life I've found that I deviate from many of the Church's philosophies. I really don't know what to believe anymore, the world is much too hectic and full of falsities to make an informed decision. Radicals in any religion or viewpoint are extremely dangerous people. These people are completely blind to the viewpoints of others, and at any rate refuse to think they could be possibly wrong by any measure. Whether it be radical left (communist), radical right (fascism), radical Muslim (Islamist Extremists), Christian extremist, or anything else under the sun. -
They are there under their own power... how can you possibly blame this on Cindy Sheehan? It's not like she locked them up and put them there...
-
I don't have the time to read through the whole thread, but in your original post, you falsely accuse those who do not support the war of not supporting the troops. While SOME may dislike both, most level-headed individuals from both the left and right wings understand that there is a difference between supporting the military and supporting every military undertaken. It would be ignorant to assume the two go hand in hand all of the time, when in reality it is drastically different. Furthermore, the troops are carrying out the action. They need to, it's their job. The war protesters are protesting the fact that they're there because of poor policy decisions. Cindy Sheehan isn't white trash. Her son paid the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq, her family has paid for her right to free speech in blood. In regards to post #4: there is no meaningful link between Iraq and 9/11. Mino: I wholeheartedly agree. There is an insane double standard regarding protesting. Case in point: pro-war protesters within the 7 mile limit of the ranch are allowed to remain protesting. The bottom line remains: terrorism is not a black and white issue, despite what some people would like to think. People would like to think that terrorists were the spawn of the Devil, and want to kill each and every American or person who supports America. What they do is horrible, but that doesn't make it alright to do horrible things in return. People need to realize that the world is cyclical, things happen in cycles and they happen because of past events. If you think that you can defeat terrorism by invading countries on false intelligence, torturing people, stealing oil money from the people of an occupied country, etc. you'll be proven wrong. If history is forgotten, it will repeat itself. So many of the actions taken by the United States government and its allies are so shocking hypocritical, you can't help but think that they're asking for all the negative press they seem to be getting now. Go ask Israel how well aggresion worked with terrorism.

D-Day 1944: Operation Overlord is looking for animators!
Lurker replied to ⌐■_■'s topic in Non-Professional Recruitment
If he wants to make a mod on any subject, that's his right. I won't sit here and criticize/hate on him or his game because it belongs to a certain theme. WWII game? Great, I hope you top everyone that's out there because that would be good for me as a consumer. The way I figure, the more the better. More selection, more variety within the WWII theme. If you're not interested in the mod, you simply don't have to comment and don't have to play. It's in everyone's best interest that people who don't want to play the game don't waste time commenting on it. -

Not too hard to click the link and go to Media, is it?
