Thanks for the praise. I am just a kid trying to learn really. I don't know OL's stuff, and yes I can model anything, although it is not something I strive to perfect myself in, my goal is that of the all encompassing texture artist - cartoony, realism, gritty, photo real, low poly, high end - Bring it on. Some day...

Here is a bathing table for bathing patients, sponge bath style. Need to make a spec and bump map for this, this is just a difuse map. Comments appreciated!
-
Sorry to bore you with all this. But another day, another few textures. A round window that have been needing a bit of cleaning for a while. C&C guys...

Here is a lamp. Check the reference pic. The story is that it actually "bleeds" from time to time, and yes the original IS situated in a derelict insane asylum. Gotta love it! C&C guys!

You gotta be kidding me. Just try and imagine the simplest possible table built super efficiently with the lowest number of polygons, and there is your wire. Yeah, I made the mistake of rendering these shots out with actual in-scene lighting. A bit moody and obscure. Never mind, on to the next one: Yeah, so this is a derelict, deserted insane asylum. There are beds and mattresses (obviously). So I have made a couple of mattresses. I have sort of 2 cleanish variants, and one really old and moldy with stains from water and such and one with stains from bird shit - possibly pidgeons. These are only difuse maps. Sleep tight folks. C&C please!

Here is an old dirty table, very few tris and a cubic kinda map. C&C is the name of the game. Please!

I hear Microsoft Game Studios are really good and supportive as publishers. Yeah, fanboys flame me all you want, but that is a persistent story you get from loads of big developers who are hooked up with them...

I am sure Valve will testify to that!

Finding a mod team worth your while 101

Wow Fletch. Great history lesson! This is so interesting! For a newcomer to the scene, I had no idea about these things. I hope one day somebody devotes the time, effort and respect to the modding community to write down the history so far... -
Thanks Dangerous one. I think I got an idea now.

Here is another question. Don't know if it just me or what, but there seems to be a lot of modding outfits that will ask you to use whatever you already have in your portfolio. Like reuse it in their mod. That's gotta give you a very patched and ragged mod, artistically. Anybody else heard of that? -
Hmmm. What it is, is roughly a low poly cone, with another smaller lower polygon cone inside it for another layer or foliage. Thanks for the comment Pericolos0 but I am still puzzled as to how to go about it differently... You mean giving the vertices a randomizing treatment. Ok sure. But my main issue is more with getting the top texture to mesh with the wrap around one, which I don't think they really do right now, unless seen from very specific angles.
-
Yeah. :x How do you do that? :-? Texture geniuses to the rescue!
-
Hooo-kay. Next up is a fir tree. My fist attempt at trees actually. Man all that alpha stuff is hard to get right on the foliage. The bark texture took me a fair while to do, because I didn't just want to make a brown on brown one. Kept trying different things painting wise, that just didn't work out. Anyway, I am proud of the bark as it stands now. Bombs away! C&C is wanted! NOW!

I feel much more at ease then. Nice, solid, hard working people you can trust... -
Come on. Don't they have English as a company language? :-?

Any famous players or modding veterans on their team? -

Any comments on this outfit? http://www.kingdomlost.net/ Will they make it? Do they have solid people on board (I wouldn't know...)? -
Do any of you guys get the same buzz from whatever caffeine vehicle (Tea, coffee, coke...) you use now, compared to a while back. Whoa. Cryptic question. I just can't get the same effects from caffeine anymore, unless in pill form. Immune, I guess, which sucks, since I am not immune to sleep yet. Ginseng (liquid) is not half bad though, although the effect is a bit short lived... As is splashing ice cold water in the face...

To give the illusion of a robotic hand made of metal, you might want to put some more metallish highlights on your textures there... Is that jeans? You might want to add a fair ammount of texture to them, so it looks more like denim and less like a flat shade. I gather that this is supposed to look like an unfriendly and threatening character, but later turns into an ally, right? I think the colours are bit too saturated at the moment. Too friendly. The design is good, but you might want to tweak the saturation. Also more dirt and rust on that mask to give that threatening look. Your scene is going to take place at night, right? Are you painting the textures for that, or are you keeping them neutral and letting the light do the rest? Right now, they kinda look like the first. You decide...

Originally from Denmark. Now living in... Middlesbrough, England. And if New Jersey is New York's armpit, then Middlesbrough is England's arsehole. Only a little while longer, and I'll be outta here!

Sounds interesting. FrieChamp, do you know how long a summer internship is? I mean there is also Dare 2 Be Digital for us in the UK from this summer onwards...

Good idea!

Yeah, I have heard that one before. That it uses a different paradigm, which can be hard to learn, but once learned it will be prefered. http://vfxworld.com/?sa=adv&code=57c5ed8a&atype=articles&id=2310 Read this review of Zbrush 2.0 in VFXWorld. That guy is obviously a fanboy, but anybody who speaks about tools made for artists' minds and not techies is my friend...
