  1. Thanks Mojo. Today I just got my first Kyoto Purple Sanga shirt - sponsored by Kyoto's hottest son - Nintendo! It should be en route from Singapore one of these days now...
  2. For crying out loud st0lve! This was not meant to be a thread about silly football loyalties but rather about games crossing into the mainstream cultural landscape.
  3. Guys, I didn't come to kick anybody's balls. And I am not a fanboy for any particular sportsteam or games console manufacturer. I am a gamer's gamer, and I am proud of it. I don't mind taking style cues from the Italians, they usually know what they are talking about. I remember in Rome, guys when dressing up would wear a funky dress suit along with their favourite football shirt underneath. Super slick both casual and classy style. For sure it beats the hell out of football shirt and jeans, which seems to be the favourite dress code in the UK. At any rate, next time I will be walking a red carpet at some ceremony or party with publicity, that will be my attire. I believe it is possible to show your geeky loyalties and look cool at the same time. Will anybody care? So what, I do it for my own self respect. One day people will care, and I will be prepared. Pericoloso: I don't understand? Relocating or working for a big games company. Why would that be a problem? My family just comes along if that is what you are refering to. My wife has lived in 3 different countries, my children are trilingual and have 2 different nationalities, why would moving to another country even be an obstacle?
  4. You bet. And she loves games too!
  5. He is not. Take Jason Rubin for example. But we need more still. I mean, when I rode snowboards, I never had any trouble telling people what I did for a living. In fact I was always looking forward to that question. Nowadays, what I have come to expect from people is that confused and disappointed feeling. To the general public we are more associated with cop killing prostitute abusing criminals from GTA or high school shootings than all the marvellous good times we give people all over the world. It is sad. But I refuse to give in, I refuse to not be proud of being a games developer. It is the only way... If you have no idea what I am talking about, please treat yourself to an Aha! moment here: http://www.fileplanet.com/138083/130000/fileinfo/Jason-Rubin's-"Tara-Reid-and-the-Future-of-Game-Design"-Speech
  6. Thanks Mike. Loved Brothers in Arms by the way. Compliments right back at you!
  7. I am happily married to a stunningly beautiful woman, thank you very much! And I resent that implication. Why can't you be nuts about games and still be rockingly cool? Would you think that of someone who collected Jean Paul Gaultier suits or Picasso paintings? Guys, in this industry we seem to suffer from a collective inferiority complex, but wake up and smell the high score guys, we are fast on our way to becoming the largest and most dominant entertainment sector in the world. That is power. That is sexy. That is cool. We should carry ourselves with that pride; Believe that that pride carries through, not just in geek circles, but also everywhere else! If we don't nobody will!
  8. My collection is finally big enough to show... http://www.marquepierre.com/shirts.html
  9. I remember I managed to get them to ship me several sample issues before they said, now you gotta subscribe! So ask for a sample issue. Christie Connolly runs their subscriptions: christie . connolly @ intentmedia.co.uk
  10. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=8543 I remember Paradox on the Amiga and C64. Imagine they are still going strong...
  11. They DO ship global. But then you have to pay a bit. When I lived back in Denmark, I made a deal with the subscription manager, so you can press the price a bit. I guess you Yanks can get GamesDeveloper freely, and this is what you get likewise in the UK. The magazine is a lot different from GDMag though, but I personally feel out of the loop without either of them.
  12. If you don't already read Develop magazine (a monthly for European games developers http://www.developmag.com ) get a copy of the latest issue. There is a great tutorial article on embedding bodylanguage into character animation. Essentially to make animation support storytelling and gameplay better in games, but the tips are useful for any kind of animation. I seem to remember Christiaan Moleman/Ninja Dodo showing off WIPs on CG Talk a while ago when he was carrying out the research/project... Anyway, well worth your time.
  13. Well, don't! I never gave them any money, for that very reason. Vote with your feet. Money talks, bullshit walks...
  14. "Mmmmm... Unexplained Dreamcast controller!"
  15. I am very much a box in the hands kinda guy. But this is too important I think. At the end of the day, this is just one of hopefully many distribution channels of the future; To have online distribution exclusively would not make sense...
  16. I so badly want that change of power everybody is talking about. Developers not being completely at the publishers mercy. Online distribution is one of the holy grails people are hoping for. Do anybody here have experience with it? I bought my HL2 from a webshop in a box and all. But I have made the decision that from now on (even though I am very much a box on the shelf kind of person), I will buy things through online distribution if at all possible. I know of Direct2Drive from the IGN/Gamespy network and I have just bought a few games from them - they are downloading as we speak. Are there any other similar initiatives out there, apart from Steam?
  17. Considering the first XBox dev kit controller was white, this could be a new devkit controller for 360.
  18. Really?
  19. More of that please! That can only be good. One wonders, why Aalborg? Why not København?
  20. Failing experience with everything, having a little knowledge of a good authoring tool like Director or Virtools could also do the trick...
  21. XBox controller shot for those interested... http://www.computerandvideogames.com/openpic.php?name=..%2Fscreenshots_library%2Fdir_284%2Fvortal_pic_142016.jpg
  22. Ubisoft hires Klein and next thing you have this... http://biz.gamedaily.com/features.asp?article_id=9523&section=feature&email=
  23. Leaked truth, or beleivable fakes? Who cares, it is geek rumour heaven! http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=58746
  24. So Klein, can you give us some examples of the info+techniques you need to master now and in the future, compared to the traditional low poly old school games art stuff?
  25. Aaaarrrgggghh! I wanted advice! Since we are on the topic - wishful thinking. What would a perfect texturing book be like for you?
