come on guy you're american just like the rest of us... europe == europe == europe I do like the game mechanics but honestly I throw my hat in with the rest of the "Enough of the goddamn WWII" crowd.

We went to Alcatraz today. Didn't get much good; kinna bleh day and I'm shooting on a little point-n-click these days. Some really minor post in these.

In all my years living here I have no idea what she's talking about

Awesome dude, grats and respect.

I like how we can see your reflection in the water droplets ^^

finally I'm playing RE4 (gc). Very cool. I never played the earlier games, they didn't really appeal to me, but this one I'm having a good time with. Some of the design decisions feel kind of odd but I think they relate to the earlier games and I can see what they're going for and it's alright. Bust-a-Move DS, Tony Hawk DS, Advance Wars DS, gonna pick up AoE DS in a day or two.

If you carefully inspect the placement of the lines and shapes you'll see that they're perfectly consistent between shots. You simply couldn't fake the distortion as convincingly as this without modeling the entire scene, projecting it virtually and doing an overlay, which is an inaccurate process anyway. It really would be easier to just do it than to try to fake it. The photo quality is ass but they are real. The aliasing is an ugly artifact of the browser resizing the photos - right click -> View Image to see them larger and cleaner. Izuno the monitor you mention is simply outside of the shot, you can see that it is mounted to a nearer wall than the one that the overhead pipe goes into in the second shot.
-
On close inspection I do believe they're real. It just wouldn't be worth it to try to fake them as accurately and consistently as they appear. The photo quality just sucks ass
-
totally. I'm not convinced they're real, but I'd like to believe it. The pictures themselves look quite photoshopped but I think it'd be easier to just do it than try to fake it. Anyway, this might be pretty doable in a map.....
-
You could conceivably fake it by building a corridor which would rotate in increments as you walked through a long row of triggers ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| but it would be a real pain in the ass and would probably look pretty choppy depending on how many triggers you built. You'd also probably want to move a clipping box along with the player so he couldn't turn around, or else you get into some really muddy territory with him going back the other way but the corridor keeps turning the wrong direction; deactivating or repurposing the triggers to turn it the other direction, ugh..... I wouldn't even attempt it that way, just a way of halfassing it without coder support. Oh yeah and no way could this ever work in multiplayer without being coded into the mod.

Interview with John Gibson about Red Orchestra and Tripwire
ginsengavenger replied to FrieChamp's topic in Off-Topic
You haven't seen millions of other games for sale on Steam yet because it's just starting to catch on as a publication platform. You do see a lot of non-Valve games in the list and that number is only growing You want to know *how* they got the deal, well either they approached Valve or Valve approached them, and neither case surprises me. -
heh, yeah guilty as charged. Most of my behavior on that forum has been pretty unbecoming of a moderator. It's difficult to maintain composure there with the unending torrent of crap posts~ that's not an excuse, just a reason. I'm glad you've stuck with it and we didn't discourage you ps I'm particularly surprised that all the pictures in that thread are still online, it's good to have the context ^^

Neotic I think your map is a really good start but it's got that "early map" syndrome: overscaling and open spaces. It looks and sounds like the map is based on a real place, is that so? This is the usual result of building something to a realistic scale--the result comes out feeling too big and too empty, and filling it in with props never fixes that.

Dude whatever your opinion of the mod, don't disparage the talents of the people working on it. Sa74n your work (and that of those with you) never fails to impress. You been hired yet?
-
Yeah no shit. Instead of trying to strongarm gamers into buying Vista to play Halo 2 they should give you a free copy if you buy the OS.

Got any studies or statistics or articles to back this up or are you just supposing? God no just a rumor I read on the back of a bar napkin -
Action Adventure Title (Level Designer)
ginsengavenger replied to DigitalMedia's topic in Non-Professional Recruitment
Privacy reasons? How about that the recruiter wouldn't get paid if you knew who the company was and just applied directly? -
I think you guys are doing alright

Sony employee fired for comparing PS3 to Xbox 360
ginsengavenger replied to kleinluka's topic in Off-Topic
At least everybody's hiring because it takes so damn many people to make games these days I really wish I could tell you guys everything I knew. -
Bush Administration infiltrating NASA...
ginsengavenger replied to TomWithTheWeather's topic in Political Discussion
These things are shocking but they are really not that surprising. The saddest, saddest fact is that he was actually voted in for another term. That speaks to some deplorable truths about the American people. -
[PLOBLEM] 9800pro @ xt not showing some resolutions?
ginsengavenger replied to ⌐■_■'s topic in Off-Topic
(whups I hit the wrong button... that missing post was asking if it was possible the monitors didn't support those resolutions) -
Posty I agree with your position in this thread. You're repeatedly bringing up propriety though, so somebody's got to do it: I agree that Political Discussion should be conducted in proper English as best we can manage, but please keep in mind that not one of us is infallible and many of us aren't even native speakers.

I remember some time ago when Ubi laid off a ton of people with non-compete clauses in their contracts. I trust those weren't enforced.

I'd rather not derail this into another Mods and Professionalism thread but I really really dislike the use of terms like "hiring" and "jobs"--come on, it's a mod. You make it for fun. There is no money involved. Don't be disingenuous. How is SoW going? I played the first Source release, how's it been coming along?
