I think if you're going to have bottles at all, you need them to be models. You really, really, need them to be models. Make poly cuts elsewhere to enable them if need be. Those chairs and tablecloths look pretty heavy if you ask me. And remember that one wpoly is worth like ten epolies.
-
ouch. hate to say it but those bottles need to be models dude. even if you just do simple models and planar-project thats same tex onto them, it'll be a hundred times better. even if they're just four- or five-sided cylinders.

Because once they represent a significant percentage of the population they help define the rules of the house. If people feel underrepresented they will make themselves heard - understood, violence is the absolute last resort but these people seem to be pretty frustrated. I'm not very sympathetic but I can at least understand where they're coming from. From what I've read (and that's all I can do, is read reports on google news because I don't live there) and infer, the situation pretty much *can* be blamed on immigration into a society and the immigrants' failure to assimilate. Going down the line you need to find cause for that immigration to begin with and secondly that failure to assimilate and I think that is more the root of the argument. Also I don't think any of us have degrees in sociology.

Design internships at Factor 5
ginsengavenger replied to ginsengavenger's topic in Non-Professional Recruitment
From what I understand we're looking for people pretty soon, the next couple months most likely. I guess around December semesters will be ending at colleges so if we get students it will likely be around then. Yeah Lee I made the edit after your comment . Designers make placeholder assets and position objects in levels, much like props in hammer. As the tools team improves our editor, exporters and such you'd probably be making some assets and heightmaps and working through the whole pipeline as new tools need to be tested. -
yeah it has model previewing and shows pointfiles in 3d.

The brushes you make into displacements cease to be normal brushes and won't block vis or seal the map anymore. You need regular brushes in there covered with nodraw underneath the displacements in order to block vis and seal the map from the void. You don't want them sticking out over your displacements because any parts of the displacement inside a brush will be in total shadow.

Design internships at Factor 5
ginsengavenger replied to ginsengavenger's topic in Non-Professional Recruitment
Heh, we've still got an office there but it's just programmers. Belgarion if you're in the US and willing to come out here there's no reason not to send your stuff over I don't know how feasible it might be but if there's a really awesome foreign candidate they might work something out. It might be easier if you're in school, I really don't know. If you are in a game design school overseas ask them if they have any experience sending people to the US for internships. -
So Factor 5 is going to be looking for a couple of design interns in the next little while. If you're in school and can get credit for it, that would be great. Passionate people from the mod community would fit the bill really well. I know there's not a lot of US peeps here but it's best if you're already in the US or better yet the bay area. If not there may be some relocation assistance especially if you're in school. Put a little resume/portfolio together and email it to me: mars.jokela at the company's domain name. *Edit: just to be clear this is not *only* for students. If you're out of school or just an aspiring level designer willing to come out here for awhile, please send your stuff over.

that's pretty fucked tbh to penalize their largest market share? isn't that like shooting oneself in the foot?
-
they'll be even more popular once they have tits and lose the braces fuck
-
sure it doesn't install but will the files play? i'd think they were encrypted such that the only thing capable of playing them would be their own malware... no?
-
mmm give the wood some shine.

dude is a real pacifist

hehe, cool. Again on the verticals, I can see by the color map that you intentionally wrapped that one groove to match the profile of the vertical leg. But in truth it looks just like a lazy UV error
-
I've done it too. but not with thousands of players on the server - that is why I qualify it with "properly" because with just a few people you're missing the point entirely.
-
I have as well, they are nice people. But again, if you don't have some serious industry experience you're going to have a hard time getting a job through a recruiter. You just become an expensive risk to any prospective employer (recruiters cost companies many thousands of dollars if you're hired). I let DAM represent me for a long while but I got my current job on my own. Most companies seem to post their jobs on gamasutra anyway. Some (like EA) just post their stuff on their company website and some will not deal with recruiters at all. Some companies deal only with specific recruiters. If you have the time to look for jobs yourself I suggest you go that route. You can sign up with a recruiter and see if they post anything you miss on your own--they should never send your resume out without your approval.

thing is, the people in gitmo aren't going home. that's another problem. torture is wrong.
-
nice. the ribbing on the verticals feels really out of place though, carvings would be better imo.

I know exactly what you're talking about and like 'ourences, I never figured a good way to do it besides splitting the face manually with a new edge -- there are some maya gurus at work though, i'll ask tomorrow. AFAIK it's to do with maya's (sometimes) smart procedural means of triangulating faces, so it's unlikely there's a proper tool for it. I think I've seen it retriangulate quads based on vertex positioning so as ignorant as he is mike-0 is not that far off. I think it's also possible that your exporter is going to triangulate your quads differently from how maya does it. I could be off base here.

PC gaming has gained a lot of ground lately in large part, I think, due to MMOs (and WoW specifically). The big concern with PC games has always been the ease of piracy - but it's a funny thing. One of the guys from work just spent two weeks in China (where everyone knows piracy is rampant). He says the only games people play are PC MMOs, and game companies can make money because you can't properly pirate an MMO.
