  1. Call me a hippie but I use health food store toothpaste (always the peppermint flavor):

I've never had a cavity in my twenty five years. I brush very hard, like I mean it. I brush at night and sometimes in the morning. I don't floss. The last time I saw a dentist was two or three years ago to have a wisdom tooth pulled; the remaining three have pretty much come in straight.

  2. I take it the style sheets are going to change to match the new buttons; personally I'm not real fond of the darker direction the new stuff is taking. I like brighter happier forums, if I'm going to be spending a lot of time looking at something I don't want it to be gloomy :| The font is a bit too... edgy... for my taste as well.

I quite liked the old scheme. oh well, so be it.

  3. The problem with only having people do it manually is that people manage it for awhile and then nobody keeps up with it and it stops happening. Spotlight didn't get anything new for ages because nobody bothered.

I would not make it rating based (0-5 cubes/stars/whatever). If it were rating based one or two disgruntled members could vote every thread a zero and fuck up the curve for everyone.

A vote system should not supercede an admin's ability to immediately move a thread to spotlight. It is a supplementary system to keep things moving.

  4. The demo was fun. I liked the story, the gameplay just seemed like it would get boring.

    Not buying.

same here. i only played the last demo from like a year ago though and it wasn't very well explained.

  5. Looking cool although it's pretty wide open and often feels empty. Really glad to see some spanish/southwest style architecture, it's something I've felt lacking in maps for a long time. The genuine landforms are really cool, are you using USGS data?

  6. If you want to build a specific system for the spotlight stuff I'd suggest a link that any (logged in) user can click in order to "vote" the thread into spotlight. Similar to the digg.com system I guess.

It could be automated to move the thread after a certain number of votes are cast, or it could be flagged for admins to move manually. Names of voters should be exposed to admins. Only users with a modest (20?) number of posts outside of EOT should be permitted to vote.

If the spotlight system is automated, users should be able to flag inappropriate spotlight threads to be dealt with by an admin as he sees fit.

  7. I don't think Mapcore needs to change. With a couple exceptions it's generally a levelheaded, laid back and accepting bunch of people. It's a modest collection of community minded creative types, and I don't think it needs to aspire beyond that. The people who run it already have full time jobs. I think the forum structure could be much more streamlined and the moderatorships less fractured, but it works pretty well for what it is.

EOT has its place, and that place is in EOT. EOT needs to stay in EOT.

  8. I think the best thing about this piece is the deliberate perspective on the two pillars on the left and the right, and more subtly in the altarpiece itself and the other verticals.

They impart a real sense of perspective and *eminence* to the entire piece which works very well. Without that I think it would feel very flat, static and plastic.
