Congrats people, another Mapcore pack.

Any chance we can have a boarder or something between the sticky posts and the normal ones? Gets a little confusing especially when on mobile

An aerial view of the one I am using as reference. These things are bigger than some cities in England and the one I am using is not the biggest.

Been doing a lot of tedious work recently to make the level properly playable again. Stuff like the collision meshes on all the big models, preparing the map for a proper skybox and editing textures/specs/normals. Also made this. Initially I was using a L4D mesh here, bit its texture was far too low res and I couldn't really re texture it without proper high poly bakes, so I made a new one using the L4D one as a guide Did a few other smaller props you can see here. Sun lounger, parasol and the fence thing. Couldn't really think of a better solution to block the players path other than maintenance barricade, so it will do for now.

Edit, Nevermind. I did a clean install instead of overwriting everything and it all works fine. -- Using ver 18. If I try to save a custom compile profile it just instantly crashes when saving. Also when loading compilepal it tells me there is a newer version. my version is v18 and v14 is available Edit, I think this is the crash dump System.Collections.Generic.KeyNotFoundException: The given key was not present in the dictionary. at System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2.get_Item(TKey key) at CompilePal.PostCompileActions.LoadConfig(String configName) at CompilePal.MainWindow.LoadConfig(String configName) at CompilePal.MainWindow.ConfigComboBox_SelectionChanged(Object sender, SelectionChangedEventArgs e) at System.Windows.Controls.SelectionChangedEventArgs.InvokeEventHandler(Delegate genericHandler, Object genericTarget) at System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs.InvokeHandler(Delegate handler, Object target) at System.Windows.RoutedEventHandlerInfo.InvokeHandler(Object target, RoutedEventArgs routedEventArgs) at System.Windows.EventRoute.InvokeHandlersImpl(Object source, RoutedEventArgs args, Boolean reRaised) at System.Windows.UIElement.RaiseEventImpl(DependencyObject sender, RoutedEventArgs args) at System.Windows.UIElement.RaiseEvent(RoutedEventArgs e) at System.Windows.Controls.ComboBox.OnSelectionChanged(SelectionChangedEventArgs e) at System.Windows.Controls.Primitives.Selector.InvokeSelectionChanged(List`1 unselectedInfos, List`1 selectedInfos) at System.Windows.Controls.Primitives.Selector.SelectionChanger.End() at System.Windows.Controls.Primitives.Selector.SelectionChanger.SelectJustThisItem(ItemInfo info, Boolean assumeInItemsCollection) at System.Windows.Controls.ComboBox.NotifyComboBoxItemMouseUp(ComboBoxItem comboBoxItem) at System.Windows.Controls.ComboBoxItem.OnMouseLeftButtonUp(MouseButtonEventArgs e) at System.Windows.UIElement.OnMouseLeftButtonUpThunk(Object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) at System.Windows.Input.MouseButtonEventArgs.InvokeEventHandler(Delegate genericHandler, Object genericTarget) at System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs.InvokeHandler(Delegate handler, Object target) at System.Windows.RoutedEventHandlerInfo.InvokeHandler(Object target, RoutedEventArgs routedEventArgs) at System.Windows.EventRoute.InvokeHandlersImpl(Object source, RoutedEventArgs args, Boolean reRaised) at System.Windows.UIElement.ReRaiseEventAs(DependencyObject sender, RoutedEventArgs args, RoutedEvent newEvent) at System.Windows.UIElement.OnMouseUpThunk(Object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) at System.Windows.Input.MouseButtonEventArgs.InvokeEventHandler(Delegate genericHandler, Object genericTarget) at System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs.InvokeHandler(Delegate handler, Object target) at System.Windows.RoutedEventHandlerInfo.InvokeHandler(Object target, RoutedEventArgs routedEventArgs) at System.Windows.EventRoute.InvokeHandlersImpl(Object source, RoutedEventArgs args, Boolean reRaised) at System.Windows.UIElement.RaiseEventImpl(DependencyObject sender, RoutedEventArgs args) at System.Windows.UIElement.RaiseTrustedEvent(RoutedEventArgs args) at System.Windows.UIElement.RaiseEvent(RoutedEventArgs args, Boolean trusted) at System.Windows.Input.InputManager.ProcessStagingArea() at System.Windows.Input.InputManager.ProcessInput(InputEventArgs input) at System.Windows.Input.InputProviderSite.ReportInput(InputReport inputReport) at System.Windows.Interop.HwndMouseInputProvider.ReportInput(IntPtr hwnd, InputMode mode, Int32 timestamp, RawMouseActions actions, Int32 x, Int32 y, Int32 wheel) at System.Windows.Interop.HwndMouseInputProvider.FilterMessage(IntPtr hwnd, WindowMessage msg, IntPtr wParam, IntPtr lParam, Boolean& handled) at System.Windows.Interop.HwndSource.InputFilterMessage(IntPtr hwnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wParam, IntPtr lParam, Boolean& handled) at MS.Win32.HwndWrapper.WndProc(IntPtr hwnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wParam, IntPtr lParam, Boolean& handled) at MS.Win32.HwndSubclass.DispatcherCallbackOperation(Object o) at System.Windows.Threading.ExceptionWrapper.InternalRealCall(Delegate callback, Object args, Int32 numArgs) at MS.Internal.Threading.ExceptionFilterHelper.TryCatchWhen(Object source, Delegate method, Object args, Int32 numArgs, Delegate catchHandler)

Been slowly progressing, but putting Kerbals on the Mun has eaten up a lot of my time. Did a first pass on the arcade with all the new stuff I have been working on Also started working on the miniature golf course near the CT spawn And decided to make the climbing wall a much more artificial looking one A lot more smaller changes done elsewhere that can be seen in the imgur gallery

Just thought I would add that you can edit the $phongAmount to have the phong match the colour of your material "$phongAmount" "[3 3 2 1.0]" http://i.imgur.com/AolABOt.jpg "$phongAmount" "[5 0 5 1.0]" http://i.imgur.com/xxN8dUu.jpg

I had the same idea for the water on cruise when I saw the phong masks. Does the normal map scroll or is it static?
-
Its kind of the idea, to achieve a look like this http://i.imgur.com/fcQ7sye.jpg http://i.imgur.com/uk2XYk9.png Depending on the angle viewed from, you see reflections of the sun.
-
A few bits I did testing it out. The wood also uses world reflections so it is definitely possible. And I added phong to the carpet to see if it would reflect other lights and it does not. Seems it will only reflect the environment light. http://i.imgur.com/X4KhzvF.jpg http://i.imgur.com/87CiHVN.jpg http://i.imgur.com/H7Azo6U.jpg Do you have any example pics of this? I tried to look it up when I heard about it but couldn't really find anything.

How did you get CSGO's tools mode working? I thought it has been broken since release
-
Ah I didn't mean the laptop itself over heats, I mean it spits out a lot of heat from the back if you are playing a resource intensive game or something. The back of it is like a hairdryer while the laptop itself stays cool. But because of that you wouldn't want to put it on your lap as it will cook your legs.
-
Playable so far as in you shoot the balls and they go in the holes. when all the balls are in the holes they respawn. Not sure I am capable of implementing a better system. That was one of my ideas, was also going to ask other mapcore mappers permission to use their maps as destinations.
-
I'm up for playing so add me please, although you cat might also put me to shame http://steamcommunity.com/id/Baldoc/

All the curves will be func_detail, since there is a lot of interior sections area portal windows will be really helpful as well. And why are you mapping? Cos is fun of course Already planned to have a lot of easter egg type stuff like that, but it wont start to show properly until i start making the signs. Made another vending machine, just need to make a normal arcade machine then I will have the needed assets to properly work on the arcade section.

Though I would update this. I ended up getting the Asus ROG 16gb. It went on discount at 200 pounds off so i picked it up. So far no complaints and I am quite happy with it, especially how quiet it is. I expected it to sound like a helicopter, but if there is any other noise in the room like a TV or some such, then you don't hear anything. Does produce a lot of heat though so its not really usable on your lap.

I really do hope a better system is put in place right from the start of the new elder scrolls title. I honestly don't see what the issue of this 25% business is about. The steam workshop allows you to distribute your mod to such a huge number of people that 25% has the potential to beat any salary many are capable of earning in a studio job (assuming they are even able to get a studio job and don't work in their local supermarket). Of course the work has to be good and you have enough content. And so many people are latching onto the 25% argument to make Valve/Bethesda seem evil and to support their argument, but at the end of the day it doesn't effect the paying customer in the slightest but is an issue between the three parties involved. I have yet to see any modders come out and speak against this. And something I have failed to see mentioned is with the csgo workshop, the quality of content has far surpassed anything that css ever had released. Having a monetary incentive dramatically increases the quality in every corner of the modding scene. I remember looking at the workshop about the time operation bravo was being prepared and thinking that during the space between operation payback and operation bravo, the new maps released in both quality and quantity completely dwarfed what css had, and this was only a matter of months. Take a look at the workshop now, over a year later, and compare it to css. Also, with the constant revenue stream of the operations as well as the cases, valve has been able to constantly keep the game updated and making it a much better product even if you ignore all the new maps and skins. Had Skyrim had a system like this from the very start, I imagine it would be a very different game today with the revenue from mods being able to pay the salary of a few people still working on the game. But as things stand right now, there is no reason at all to have anyone working on the game as their job will be producing a negative income for the company. Maybe I am looking at things too optimistically, but paid user content has improved csgo so much and I doubt very much it would be in such a good state without the paid content. So I personally believe paid user content is a win for everyone involved. Gamers get better user content and studio support, modders get paid and are able to create more and better content and the dev studio is paid allowing them to justify the price of supporting the game long after release. And I have to say I am more than disappointed at some of the comments on the PC Gamer article directed towards FMP. Such as how he should get a real job or how he doesn't deserve to be paid but they do deserve free mods. Just makes me shake my head and facepalm.

Not sure if I have anything to say that hasn't already been mentioned. I am all for modders making some money or even a living out of making stuff for the community, but I get the impression a lot of the reactions are the same as when a website people have been using for years suddenly puts ads up. The instant reaction seems to be that people are not allowed to make money out of something that was once free and there is such a knee jerk backlash. But on the other hand the Skyrim stuff has been handled quite poorly. A system like this needs proper moderation to function. I have played Skyrim to death and previously Oblivion. Mods greatly extend the lifespan of the game but so many of even the best mods are just not worth any money. So many mods have pieces for only one sex, require console commands to acquire or don't have all the proper UI elements. And that's before we even get into them breaking the balance of the game, or just outright breaking the game. There have been mods I wanted to download, but due to dependencies I have had to go through an entire chain of other mods I didn't want to just get the one I did. Do that with a few mods and you soon find yourself crashing every 10 mins (assuming you don't just get a CTD). All things that are unacceptable when you are parting people from their money. And I feel the whole donation idea is just rubbish. Very few people will donate, because why should they when they don't have to? But the expectation towards the modder will be higher. How can you have such a broken mod when you are accepting donations?

Was away for a lot longer than I had planned, but at least managed to get some work done on a different project during that time. Since I returned I have been doing more work on the arcade. I will move it up a floor and put a bar/lounge area next to the casino instead. Makes a lot more sense as the floor above you walk through the court and into the arcade area, so keeps with the game/fun theme of the area. Anyway, made a bike racing game Spec map is too strong, will work on that. And some CoreCola

You got the Asus rog right? Did you pick it up in London or buy online? Any regrets? And Its not so much budget constraints, more spending that kind of money cannot be taken lightly. I would like to have a future proof machine, but is the extra 500+ worth it? But at the same time if I have something that's obsolete in a year I will regret not spending more. I can take a look at yours in person, but mostly as an excuse to get out the house and do something.

Thought I would revive this thread with my own questions. Been looking at the Asus rog or the Aorus x7 but the price is a bit steep at 1500£ or so I don't need a laptop as a dedicated machine but just a replacement for my desktop while I'm on the move. I travel quite a lot and would like to be able to do 3D stuff as well as play some games while I am away. running unreal would be a plus, but something that runs Max/Photoshop as well as games such as civ 5 and of course csgo is the main purpose. Is the Aorus overkill for this and better buying something cheaper? edit, portability is the least important of jackophants 3 options

It's because all your fence meshes are set to prop_vehicle that the game is crashing. Make them prop static. Also when I loaded your vmf, it had snap to grid turned off. this will cause endless headaches later on so you really should toggle it back on (map>snap to grid)

Thanks for the ref pics guys, still not decided where I will have it but will defiantly have a look back here when I am making it. and Klems, what is the name of that place? Not a lot done since the last post, but since i will be away for a week I thought i would post what I have done. Some more stuff to the casino And some stuff done outside. Made a big screen TV and a table tennis table. The text on the screen will scroll when done. I started to work on this area with the idea it would be the arcade, but while running around it I thought it odd that they would place an arcade for teenagers right next to a gambling casino as well as by the elevators. so might have to rethink what will go there. (the screenshot is taken from the doorway that you can see in the above casino image)

You must be saving them as uncompressed because a 1024x vtf should only be 683kb.

After the CTs rescued the hostages on cs_cruise, they took them back to this carrier. But it was all a ruse and they also turned out to be terrorists looking to blow up the carrier!
