  1. it looks to smoothed imho. check your smooth groups
  2. BenQ FP783 - best 17 inch tft monitor for games and it's really affordable. DVI is important.
  3. sry, I haven't seen the link to the article in your post. anyway that's real crap going on there.
  4. Acutally the grenade indicator was very usful because sometimes it was hard to see the grenades. Also the jump-over button was cool in my opinion. Just because PC games are getting more like console games it doesn't mean that the gameplay is getting simple. Of course COD2 is a true fps and there are not even team commands or something like this, but if you play it in "hard" mode you can get into some really tricky sitations, where you have to look for a good cover position, perfect shoot-and-cover timing, throwing smoke grenades, and more... In my opinion that's the future of computer gaming: user-friendly, intuitive controls BUT deep and complex gameplay experience. COD2 is a step in the right direction. (Of course there are more games like this already available)
  5. Adrian and John are not relatives, right?
  6. I don't think so. COD1 was based on the quake 3 engine. COD2 has it's own new engine.
  7. Wow I kinda like the graphics. I think the COD2 engine is even weaker than source, but COD2 looks way better than DOD:S.
  8. What are the new improvements / features of the new version? I tried the XSI mod tool once, but I didn't like it.
  9. Why similar? Because both are fps? The ragdoll physics are weird indeed, but I wonder why the player shot at the dead bodies? To make sure that they are dead?
  10. ^^ Don't want to make another thread, what's the average skin size for HL2 character parts? (ie face, hands, body etc) there are only 2 parts: head and body. size is mostly 1024x1024. the gman's head of the HL2 intro is 2048x2048
  11. collecting comics, open & read them = ok collecting comics and keeping them in a plastic cover forever = nerdy buying a collector's edition dvd/game because it has some cool exclusive and usefull features = ok buying a collector's edition AND the normal edition and every possible edition that exists = nerdy having 3 or 4 action figures of your favorite childhood hero on your shelf = kinda ok having a whole shitload of figures, still in the original wrapping, bought for hunderds of dollars on ebay and geek conventions = definitely nerdy
  12. Try to make large outdoor maps in FEAR and you would have super bad performance. Or try to make detailed indoor rooms in BF2. I suppose it would look kinda ugly. Source is somewhere in the middle. The indoor parts look nice but not great because of the simple lighting / shadow system. On the other hand you can make larger outdoor stuff, but not as large as BF2. It's somewhere in the middle, you know what I mean
  13. Most shadows in games are kinda "faked". There are very few games where shadows are actually (particularly) ray traced, e.g. Doom3
  14. What's the difference between volumetric clouds and volumetric smoke? Both is made up of particles, right? I guess you could make that in source as well. Anyway it looks stunning
  15. wow! I envy Friechamp
  16. wow those graphics look awesome. I hope it's not a prerender thing like killzone2 again... but I don't like the new solid snake. he's older than sam fisher now... ah by the way, have you seen the 2nd trailer about hideo koijma... splinter cell rip-off included.
  17. Source can do dynamic lighting but it needs too much performance. The dynamic shadow system is even a bigger piece of crap. ...but still I think that source is the best available engine for modding. Unreal 2 is getting old and Doom3 is too limited.
  18. I would rather have a better lighting / shadowing system in source.
  19. There is a "optimize" modifier in max, but it's useless in most cases. For reducing polys the "weld" / "target weld" function should be your friends
  20. best game company ever... Rareware! ...for making the coolest squirrel in game history. /and for making a bunch of other cool games such as goldeneye, donkey kong, perfect dark and more...
  21. Post the texture. I see nothing on this little screenie
  22. Reqs like this makes me sad. Also, those of us that can actually fill that req have a job. You're right. Such requirements do really suck. Why don't companies just judge by the portfolio? I mean it's not like that there are sooo many unemployed game designer out there.
  23. very cool what did you use for rendering?
  24. I've played Vampires - Bloodlines recently. The haunted hotel level scared the shit out of me - maybe the best horror part in a game ever! Very cool game, too bad Troika doesn't exist anymore. uuh by the way, wasn't there a guy at mapcore who used to work on Vampires?
  25. Those 3 bolts on the handle are a waste of polygons. A normal map can do it as well. The rest of the knife looks well done. Now comes the fun part... the unwrapping
