I've got love for both editors. Its easy to go from one to the other, but maybe thats just me.
that being said, heres some wip of a doom3 level:
got the basic brushwork, just need to detail everything. its supposed to be a vehicle repair bay.
riddick had a great engine, but was poorly optimised by comparison to doom 3. not saying doom 3 is without its flaws. every engine has many reasons why its worse and better than all the others. The only real way to sell the engine besides making games inhouse on it is to get out there and try to tell people WHY its better. Even if it is all bullshit, you still gotta try.
Its like when Todd Hollenshead said in 1999 after Quake III was released that John Carmack was working on brand new technology (Doom 3). Five years later, hey look, the first game using that "brand new technology" was released.
Im at quakecon right now and I played the mp demo. Nicely done. There is a very nice Quake III feel to it; like putting on a pair of old shoes. Its basically Quake III with different weapons and the Doom 3 engine. I dont know what the max players is caped at, but this one had about 10 people in it.
I can see this easily usurping quake III as the deathmatch game
Gun looks nice the enemy models look nice, but the level design looks shit enough to be a direct port. Also the game ran like shit compared to doom 3 and this had smaller environments. This team needs to optimize.
Bottom line, I am not impressed.
played it. thought it was great. jumped twice. doom 3 had me more on edge, but then again, this demo was all of 10 minutes.
A bit dissapointed in system performance. i have a amd64 3500 with a 7800GTX and at 1600 everything maxed the game ran like shit.
