  2. mm.. it's definetly a new style for me at least. kind of a mix between kenbanks and blueman, but i sort of mapped similarly to blueman anyway. just taking a few extra tips from ns_nothing. i'm really not sure why you think adding white to the mix makes it look gay. White is very important i think. If a map is completely lacking white it feels... i dunno. not ugly, but it's as if you don't get a break. i like white. i did try adding a bounce of 1 and.. well, it feels better and worse. It's lighter, which is good for gameplay, but it doesn't have quite the same feel. and not nearly so much contrast (i liked the contrast) but as i said, trying to experiment with, what is for me, a new style.
  3. not really a map yet, but i'm pretty sure i'll kill myself if i don't do something with it. I'm going to try to develope this style a LOT before i take a go at a serious classic NS map. But anyway... yeah. i just thought i might post it here for comments and crits.

    try putting "-gamma .9" or .85 in your rad line. i think that would make it look great... not that it isn't already of course. and indeed, 'tis a shame this isn't going to be classic NS anymore. we need more of those, now more than ever. and yes, we could have cared.

    indeed nexus. i have already started up just such a venture in said style. it's slow going atm. having trouble getting it to look as i wish it to, but an example anyway (even if it looks crap). but as for this map, it's not changing. i'm just gonna say it's finished. with the original texturing i might add.
  6. i would say that MS is too dark actually. Particularly around the armory, where most of the action is likely to take place. Some more high-intensity high-contrast marcos-patented white spotlights would do nicely methinks.

    yeah, looking very nice. the only problem i forsee is that no one really plays HLR anymore. all the servers are empty, so if you're making it to be played, don't expect much. Of course, that's not necesarilly why you should make a map anyway. Looks good. I'd play it. ^_^
  8. mmm no.. better! You select the mesh as if it were a box, and size it as if it were a box, and Gtk will automatically proportionate all the faces of the mesh.. not to mention it perfectly aligns textures, which makes it positively perfect for pipes (or anythig you want curved for that matter). Example - That started out as a single long tube. Took maybe 25 seconds to get it where i liked it... look at its curved goodness!
  9. umm.. that's me :wink: i went to your site and looked at the other pics. actually, i really DO love this geo. Look at all the rounded goodness! i love rounded stuff.. it's so awesome, though HL usually tends to dissagree with me. But i guess that's why Q3 and patch meshes were invented. Those rule. if you do end up using Q3 for the engine, which i think is highly possible based on HL's lack of interest in high wpoly scenes, you should switch over to Gtk-Radiant 1.4.0 and use patch meshes. you can import the geometry first of course, but as far as i know Radiant is the only editor with mesh support, not to mention Gtk is just awesome as it is. And the meshes will look 10x better than using brushes. You can't go wrong with using meshes... i'll stop now.

    /me nods yeah. i love to make dm maps. i had no idea what i was making when i started. just put some brushes down and made on of those things in the middle, then put housing around it. decided to make a dm map, and i'm rather pleased with the results. some people don't like the texturing.. oh well. i don't care that much. i did end up retexturing and saving under a different name though, and i like how that came out as well. not a major change, but enough to give it a slightly different feel when running about in-game. but i didn't change the floor texture, cuz i really like it, and i'm not changing it, so tough :evil: Now, i'm not really sure what "take your lighting to the extreme" is supposed to mean... elaborate here are some retextured pics anyway. thoughts? oh.. and if anyone has a server they'd like to host it on for a game or two i'd appreciate it, seeing as i can't host one myself. http://belg.thezazi.net/HLDM/dm_/dm_retextured0003.jpg http://belg.thezazi.net/HLDM/dm_/dm_retextured0004.jpg

    yar... well, a couple of my ns buddies have been referring me to this forum the last couple days, so i might as well sign up too eh? anyway, here's a small DM map i made over the last two or three days. still waiting to get a few people to PT it before i finalize it. .. it has no name. simply "dm_" there are six spawn points, the revolver, cross bow, rpg, mp5 and some grenades, that.. one gun. you know "don't overcharge it!" "overcharge? waddayamean OVERcharge?!", a few snarks that are kinda hidden, and each spawn has 3 batteries and a shotgun.
