  1. uh, well, minnesota isn't exactly known for its temparate winters.. though it has been lately. Honestly, i've been dissapointed with our winters the last several years. i love snow, and any time we get it I'm happy. all these shots were taken within a conservatory, which is basically a big greenhouse open to the public.

zynd, send me your snow. ^_^

  2. had some fun yesterday with my G2 and a macro addon lens. i've been taking photos like this for around 3 years now, just rarely show anyone i'm not personally talking to. pic 3 has some pretty severe cromatic aberation, but it was rather dark in there. i had to open the aperture all the way to 2.0 and put iso up to 100 or 200 in some pics (lowest is 50. 100 is acceptable. more than 200 = sand) to get a decent shutter speed (no tripod this time)

  3. lol. at least the evilest person on earth. at the very least, a superlative adjective. i don't think i've ever heard that particular grammatical error before.

zazi is.. well, i guess you'd have to know him.

  4. someone's been using the cs_office textures ;) It looks nice, I need to start learning modelling myself...
nooooo those are all textures i made, got off google image search, or used max to create. :P

Yeah, Zazi is such a douche, screw that guy  .

Well, except the little table and the couchs which are really good, the geometry of the room and desks are quite simple to my opinion, you've didn't put the same amount of work for each part of the scene it seems. :)

oh yeah, and you will break your back on those chairs :P

whaaaat.. no. zazi is nice. <3 zazi. but while you mention the chairs, i did also say that i was dissatisfied with them. i'll make something new tonight probably. it's the end of the quarter. no more classes to worry about.

you're also right about the amount of work i put in to different parts of the scene. i did them all in stints, doing part of it at one point, learning how better to use max, then later doing other things. specifically the two desks. both of those i did earlier in the scenes creation, while the sofa table i made latter on(or at least its legs). the glass/wood wall was something that i went back and made super-high poly, like the water tank and its base, as well as the couch. maybe i should just dig up the old image. *2 minutes later* lol. it's funny to look at it now. 1 2

i agree with koko. Its looks great. Some things are superb (couches, feel), but some other things are kind of lacking. Some areas are too simple (first pic far right). The shadows look a little dark, too. but thats just me.

    Sweet stuff, no doubt.

the right is kind of bare, isn't it? i'll stick some tvs in there or something. But the shadows are mostly ok. I think you're looking at the two couches and table on the left in pic 1. that's darker because all the lights there are almost directly above them. the other shadows aren't so harsh.
  5. this is pretty much my final for my 3d modeling class this quarter. was going to be final but.. well, the lights, the chair... and zazi.. dangit zazi. don't let him critique your stuff. he'll give you good suggestions you can't ignor.. anyway

it was originally made for an interview (got a 3ds job after three days actively using it. awesomeness!), but they had to change things and i no longer work for them. but i decided that i must continue modeling, so I took the sucky version i gave my boss and prettied it up for fun, then decided to make it my final. tadah. this is the first scene i've made with 3ds. (aside from my lame assignments and small personal projects)

  6. lol. sure, i'll let it console me. a little anyway. turns out it's not actually here. it's in greenbay. the flyers were a little missleading. the event is for all of ITT tech who wants to show up, but i don't want to drive 6 hours to go there. the DEGD head at my campus, Stan Bissinger, left at 5am to get there. i suppose i could have gone with him had i known, but i'm not sure i would have wanted to drive for 6 hours to get there and leave the same day.. 12 hours of driving in one day is a good chunk.

  7. Hope they spend a bit more time on their level design this time around. Looking forward to it though, loved the combat in the first one.
total agreement. they just didn't sparkle. bland texturing, plain lighting.. overall bleh. the offices were the best looking areas in my opinion, and they weren't that amazing. monolith is capable of much higher quality.
  8. nice looking track kami. i'll have to try it out in a minute.

i tried doing this a while back with the first trackmania, did a little bit, but never got into the track editor overly much. then i saw this thread and that nations was free.. oh that is awesome. so i made one this morning.

    Upsy Downsy Twisty Turnsy

my best so far is .. something just under 2 minutes. it takes forever to get through this track. it's not visually impressive, but i think it's fun to play. the goal was to strain your driving skills, not jumping skills, though there are a few jumps to keep your attention.

:edit: kami your course is evil. but i almost got a 1 minute time... except i missed the finish. -_-

  9. is this map still not finished? boo

yeah :( i really take my time

heres another wip pic(brightend up a bit because of it being so dark... ingame looks a lot brighter tho)

    -image removed to save space-

ahh. that makes me feel better. now finish :P but take your time if you need to. no one likes a rushed map. i'd rather wait a while longer and get the quality.

  10. I didn't play Farcry because it looked boring and like nothing new. My opinion is perfectly valid because I was turned off from the game by what it was, what it was marketed as, and what it appeared to be. And nowadays it's largely forgotten, let's not split hairs here. I'm not trying to gang-up on or diss the makers of Farcry. A lot of these decisions are pushed by publishers. They know what sells games, but not what makes them fun. Getting a game into the player's mitts is one thing, but making them love that game is another.

I dissagree with you there. I would liken that to saying you don't like a car's feeling or handling based soley on watching someone else drive it, or not seeing it driven at all. True, the game is a little cheezy at times, and it's got the big guns with a slightly brainless protagonist, but that doesn't mean the gameplay is brainless. Story, while it may not be the driving force in the game, does exist, and something interesting does happen to you near the end (instincts really capitalizes on that).

All in all, I think you're throwing it in the "games that suck" bin before giving it a chance. I won't deny I've done the same, but as one who's played FarCry and really enjoyed it, I think it deserves a chance from anyone I can get to play it. at least try out the demo. it doesn't perform as well as the shipped product, but you'll get an idea of what the gameplay is like, and the worst possible outcome is that you'll lose an hour from downloading installing and deciding you don't (or do) like it.

  11. Seriously sweet stuff to be seen there. But if someone try's to tell me that will run on anything less than a nasa super computer then I ain't listening. :)
actually, they use old computer equipment so they know it won't fail, if memory serves, and i wasn't being lied to.

    Un-Flabbergasting-awesome

    That covered it nicely.

hah. yeah it did. My love for CryTek grows further. I always tell people cryengine is awesome. .. i've been ridiculed for it. <3 cryengine.
