  1. Hehe where did that come from, it was one of the first layout playtests of my level so I'm probably one of the guys running around in it, what makes it at least 9 months old. I really doubt this is suposed to be promotional material :-)
  2. Funding problems is what they told me, I ofcourse can never know for sure I might as well not be worth it :-) Also updated my first post.
  3. Thats where I worked at in Korea for 2 months, its Source (left 4 dead engine to be exact) and as he mentioned in the interview, the core team is very small. As far as I know, Minh is the only mapper after I had to go. Also he should have taken a screenshot with AA on
  4. The map compiled but the error is shown when it tries to load the game with the map? (You are talking about HL2 right?) I just turned off the automatic launch in the compile options and just load the game and map manually. I think its only a problem when working on custom maps and there might be a fix by now but I never bothered to look it up as I'm used to manual loading a map now. If its something else we need more information like a compile log
  5. I believe the green is video related, you have a ati card like me? A workaround might be to set a maximum render distance in worldspawn, i believe you get a black background that way, or the env_fog settings, I forget. Otherwise you could consider disabling the sky visgroup and add a box around your map with the sky texture and a dark rexture on the bottom just to create the overview. I did something simular just to remove rooftops on buildings that players could access. Some other tip, cl_drawhud 0 also removes the 1024 marker so you have to use that one once you have the map fit to the box and are ready to make the screenshot :-)
  6. I only made one breakable prop and thats been a while, but you could make the part that stays in one piece a seperate model thats a physics prop and a input enablebing motion on the break output of the gibbed model asuming they have a break output like func_breakable. When following Pampers advice, check in the model browser if those props are in once piece, if they are, it can also be done with QC commands, otherwise its probably using the medthod I mentioned
  7. hl2 mod 2009 looks pretty good and don;t recognize the engine in it
  8. Never been a man of many words so I just say: awesome stuff
  9. I was stupid enough to start with my dad again after my Korean adventure (carpenter). Hehe Minh said the same when I worked in Korea, well the fastest part anyway ;-)
  10. Updated this in may but never posted it http://www.bluestrike.be/portfolio I don't really apply anywhere tough all I got so far is from people that came to me. I should probably try some different engines, downloaded the Crysis 2 sdk but never got to it, got a bit into coding now and might just try a game on my own.
  11. There is a completely done map but its collecting dust as it was decided to hold it back until we have matching player models. To bad because Skybex put alot of work in it Those props are on steam by accident and we are not removing them in case any custom map is using them.
  12. Finally, its been to long since I could release something new. Insurgency mod level, goal of this map was to make a level where the insurgents were on the offensive side, have a large open environment with no close fog range and still decent fps in lower systems. (no download its automaticly downloaded when installing insurgency on steam) large: http://www.insmod.org/media/news/Mar09/ ... view_7.jpg large: http://www.insmod.org/media/news/Mar09/ ... view_5.jpg large: http://www.bluestrike.be/maps/ins_karam_0.jpg large: http://www.bluestrike.be/maps/ins_karam_1.jpg
  13. I wanted to do a model based on concept art , I was looking for a player model but could not find any reference images with front and side views but stumbled upon this stuff from a old canceled mod I was part of and desided to give it a go instead. Its a dropship that carries modules. 6134 triangles, by far my most complex model so far and my wrist hurts from making it
  14. Times have changed, It takes alot of work to make a nice mod. As the retail market proves, players want fun, good looking games, the original games usually have a hard time selling, the same goes for mods ... Yeah a 5 man team of high expirienced modders is probebly better then a large team, but you have to know 5 expirienced modders and they must be willing to work on your project. And that means that you must be expirienced to start with. As for insurgency mistakes, I think the gameplay/objectives should have had priorty and do much more early testing, instead of when the maps are pretty much done :-P
  15. Seoul, korea
  16. I'm starting next week as leveldesigner at a new company, a game for the asian market (and if succesfull, international release) Mother company is FixKorea, the game studio will probebly be named FixGames.
  17. Doesn't matter to me as they are both right winged in european terms (if they both would be european party's they would be on the right side of the spectrum) But if McCain wins he better stays alive for his whole term because Palin seems pretty uninformed to me :-) I rather saw Hillary sitting on the throne

    Left 4 Dead

Its 4vs4 where players can control the 4 survivors and 4 of the 5 special infected (when doing it multiplay) They think griefers will be happy to play as one of the infected, altough I think a griefer would just join the survivors and shoot his team
  19. Yay Mino !
  20. - Piracy is bad. - Players won't be able to buy all the games they want unless they or their parents are loaded. - Alot of players pass on a legal version that has a tough DRM. - Alot of players get a pirated version because its faster to get. - Few players crack their legal version so they won't have to play DJ. - Some players won't get a legal copy because they think its to expensive for what they get. - Who can say he never stole a single thing in his entire life? - Stealing is also bad. I know few people with legal windows versions, yet microsoft is loaded, talk about a overpriced product Are gamestudio's themselves using completely legal software?
  21. Is the overview image correct, Did you use the overview_marker_1024 so you knew what part of the image to take for a 1024*1024 image? (for that matter were you in the correct resolution when taking the overview image) Are the coordinates you used the ones last updated in the console before taking the screenshot? Out of idea's now, but when css was just out the cordinates system was screwed but I managed to tweak&test by hand to get it somewhat accurate if youre up for that job
  22. What also bothers me is that such a pretty game has no screenshot setting in the key config. Lets see if google knows how I can take some :-)
  23. Hmm I asked someone at Valve if games what have install limits in retail have the same limits in the steam version. The awnser was: I don't see any limitations mentioned on their steam games pages so I guess there aren't any. How does it work with the retail version, do they have a warning somewhere on the box or manual? Does the game says anything about the number of activations yo have left or anything? Wel Steam has its own DRM / is a DRM on its own. As for Warhead: Still think Crytek needs to playtest more, Stuck as i got stuck under the exosuit, And stuck because I could not find a exit for my hovercraft, I think youre suposed to leave it behind there but I'm not sure... Where I can play Valve games at normal difficulty with barely dying I quit warhead 2-3 times already because I kept dying at the same locations. Don't notice much from the performance improvements, game still freezes quite often on my high end system with a low AA setting and the autodetect options. The grass and trees still sway as if they are on speed or someone increased the time. Makes it look pretty fake where a very slow sway would be more subtile. This must be me but enemy's are harder to kill then it takes for me to go down, only times a headshot works is when I get close with cammo or wtih the sniper rifle on ordinary soldiers. As soon as there is somewhat of a distance I get a hard time killing enemy's, even when prone with the strenght mode on. Another thing that was pretty frustrating are the frozen umbrella's in the hovercraft scene, you can knock a tree down with it, but these umbrella's are indestructible :-) The intro video was nice and shows the players some additional tactics like 'boxing' a verhicle , in the orriginal crysis i found that out after waching the special edition content after finishing the game I think the intro also shows Psycho with the speed enhancement and then switching to strength for a super jump but I can't seem to do it myself. Haven't finished it but I think its slighty better as thye original so far, lets see how the game ends and the crysis bossfights were pretty anoying and buggy.
  24. Wel money wise it would be better to sell when youre strong? Anyway maybe some parthnership in steam but if I owned a company like Valve I doubt I would sell it as a whole. Ofcourse maybe Valve isn't doing as good as they say? Anyway lets hope its a wild rumor, it seems to spread pretty fast tough ;-)
  25. Born in 77 and my first shooter was duke3d :-P
