- A way to export reference geometry to a model package. - Easy way to clip area's for the player. (working with unity what has no system for it at all unless using collision boxes and scale rotate and transform those into place)

I don't feel modding is in decline, I think its grown so big you can't get a overview anymore. Game magazines can easily fill 2 pages every months with good looking mods for varioes games, so I would sertainly not say its worse then 10 years ago :-) Its true that a whole generation of modders seems to go indie tough :-)

My favorite game magazine said Sega was unable to give them the review code in time, what they generally expirience as a bad sign and adviced people to wait for the review in the next issue :-)

I had no idea people call setting up entity's etc also scripting, I always asumed they were talking about lua or other languages and stuff like valve's sounds, material & compile scipts :-) I guess game dev lingo can vary a bit, according to 3d game textures book I have, skinning is creating a unique texture for a specific mesh (generally a non tiling texture.) and I have always used it that way. (Having worked most with Source where hammer also lists different model textures as skins) (altough I was a bit confused when Hessi commented on my "skinned by" comments on my portfolio as being wrong) and I call assigning vertices to bones just rigging as its part of setting up a bones rig.

Suprised to see BMS is still in development and looking even better then before.

Did not find Arkham Asylum that special, made my way outside and thats where I quit it.

Anyone knows where I can find 2d skyboxes or any tool to create them? To be specific I am looking for a "sky city" location, so coulds at the bottom and clear sky on top :-) Thanks.

My texture skills suck so bad, I hope this looks somewhat decent as I'm biased :-)

And this is not only about achievements. For me the most important part would be that steam/impulse/d2d etc players can all play against eatchother without the dev having to set up master servers etc of their own.
-
Steamworks is separating the community. As a dev I would rather have my achievements availeble for all players instead of seperate achievements for every distribution platform. (even if only 15 year old are really interested in it) Same for matchmaking and dlc, I would not want to create separate versions for every distributor or be attached to only a specific one. No matter how great steam might be, many people still don't trust it and refuse to use it, wich is a lost costumer. That and I think competition is always better then a monopoly ;-)

When it was at $2 or something? Decided that was a cheap chance to check out how it works (working on a indie game and checking out where and how I could sell it) I had no problems and a fast download, meanwhile I bought the 2 expansions and TA (even tough I have the orriginal , just out of dissapointment for SupCom2)
-
If there was an alternate source for maps they could not charge the $15 and get away with it. As predicted there is no mapeditor so they can charge dlc. Seems Ruse is going the same way, Ubi claiming that creating such large maps is not something outside the average user's skill. So I bet there is going to be paid dlc. Its all about money these days

Last week I was thinking how it would benefit gamers if there was a independant centralized system for achievements, regardless what digital distribution platform you use to play a game. And just now I read Stardocks anouncement about their independant DRM/matchmaking/achievements/... service. It doesn't require the impulse client but is free for dev's that also release the game (non exclusive) on Impulse. Basicly the advantage of Steamworks without the limitation of a required steam client. http://frogboy.impulsedriven.net/articl ... olutionary Seems to sound great to me.

SupCom 1 isn't on steam (or not for my region anyway). Impulse has SupCom 1 + FA pretty cheap I think and they also released TA and are doing support/updates to it.
-
I 2nd that, finished the campaign and tried some online games, I'm pretty good in FA but I get my ass kicked in SC2 and I can't learn from the replays because they don't show how the enemy researches. Also the lack of the give feature means that the first team to loose a player is pretty much lost.
-
They could easily release a onlive console version if you ask me.

Have fun there, Met any other Belgian people there? I know of one who was hired at Blizzard around november.

Irrelevant example. A car is an object that degrades and loses value over time. Games degrade too over time if you ask me, issues supporting the newer OS, Degrading graphics, and better cooler games comming out (wel once in a while anyway). But I guess its easyer to trade with used games then used cars

Depends on your provider, I have scarlet adls2, its cheap and unlimited. My record is somewhere at 250 gb for a month. Ontopic, Not looking forward to these kind of services.

I have a problem loading vmf's to XSi too, and I never had problems before, I think its vista 64 bit as it works fine on my laptop. Anyway ontopic, i worked with mod tool and xsi 5 ,6 and 7. I never had any problems exporting tough except with animations, have to know what flags to use in the exported dialog for that. Anything you export needs to have a material assigned to it tough, the smd exporter ignores geometry that has no material on it. http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Category:XSI Oh and the exporters are not availeble for the 64 bit version.

Love the game, would mod for it if I had the time :-) Wish my female elf could go down with Leliana but even with 100 friendly I can't. Went trough all the origin story's and probably play 2-3 different characters and make some different choices. Save to say Bioware is my new fav dev I should grab Mass Effect but i'm cheap and waiting for a bundle deal with ME2 :-P Morrigan keeps reminding me about Stargate tough :-) My favorite chars, Morrigan, Wynne, Lelliana, Allistar and dog. Ogren was the last to join my party but his somments could sometimes make me laugh, wel and shale because I has issues to get the dlc working, Shale is popular in my reroll, probably because his damage is a bit overpowered at my low level, his banging on the floor alone can kill enemy's so I send him in first as the friendly fire can also kill my party if they are hurt :-P http://social.bioware.com/playerprofile ... &lang_id=1

Working with this engine/tool, wish the level design part was a bit better but its great for a newbie programmer like me to start with, plenty of documentation and helpfull community.
