I get what you are saying, The Postman, and I agree with you to some degree, but you are generalizing alot.

I'm in no way justifiying killing yourself here, but some kids do have abusive parents, and just good old regular shitty living conditions. And while beeing raped several times over the course of 10 years might not have the biggest impact on you socially, it might have on others. (Just putting it on the edge here, dont worry, I'm not sympathizing with suiciders)

I once stumbled upon this norwegian site written by a 16 year old girl, and she had written her entire life story and goodbye note on that site right before she off'd herself. One thing that I remembered was a story about when she was in class once, they had a discussion about what the worst thing that could happen to you were and the teacher said it was death! She herself, having been molested by her dad over a couple of years didnt agree, because she'd rather be dead than be feeling what she was feeling. The shame, the shyness, the never wanting a boy to touch her, having commitment problems etc etc.

ofcourse I agreed with the teacher here, because I believe that you eventually can overcome such problems and live a happy life in, say, 10 years. But I can also see that during those 10 years, it's probably hell and 10 years of torture for that kid. And when you are tortured, and you never know when it'll stop, many people want to off themselves.

True true, I can agree with that, skjalg. That's a special kind of daily torture for 10 years of mental anguish. Anyone have any concrete specifics on this girl's cause of death? I mean, I think at this point we're all generalizing or guessing from anecdotal evidence. I've known lots of gothic kids in my time so that's what I'm pulling from and the story that Skjalg just related here is another very valid angle. So what's the particulars of this case?

Acquiring a talented team to create a decent mod with a decent art level and a good set of levels is tougher than ever because no there's not only a spec, height, normal, diffuse and sometimes glow map, but there's also a high poly model (something which not many amateurs are good at making) and low poly model as well as the functional knowledge about normal maps that's required to not make them look like ass, or how to fix them when they do. It's a lot tougher :/

The sadness of losing a child is temporary.

Please go talk to a grieving mother ten years after losing her child, or heck at any time during her life. She might have come to terms with it, but the pain and sadness still linger under those scars. It is in no way as temporary a problem as not being popular in high school.

I think you missed the point of my arguments though. Her death is tragic to her family and friends and her death was selfish because it caused that tragedy and was a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

There's a level of maturity and sense of self that most people get after they've gone through their teenaged years. Her life effected others, especially her parents who now have a huge hole in their lives because of their selfish shit-head goth daughter.
