It seems like we going to meet Battlefield again
The Postman replied to Taylor Swift's topic in Off-Topic
Mechs! The most battlefield useless machinery ever conceived! Top heavy weapons platforms that require a stable, level terrain to be of any use. Not saying they don't look cool, just they're pretty dumb compared to say, a tank or something of that conventional nature. -
What, like religion? Not at all. In religion there are certainties and "unquestionable" "facts." Science != religion in practice whatsoever.

This is just awesome.

9/11 - some scientific stuff to think about it
The Postman replied to Steppenwolf's topic in Political Discussion
Yeah, it's your personal view. It's supported by crackpot analysis from disreputable sources and shot down by literally dozens of good articles and accounts all within this thread. Was I at the WTC or the Pentagon? Nope. Do I remember that day and getting stuck at an airport that was closed down because of the happenings that day? Yes. Do I remember the news reports right after the fact? Yes. Do I seemingly know more about the situation (ie: haven't taken a bunch of crap facts from a bunch of crap websites)? Yes. And they still got it wrong. Yes it does. Hell you can even burn tinfoil. Anyhow, you're simply wrong here. Explosions don't tend to cause fire damage to the things they engulf. Most of what an explosion does is cause concussive damage and heat burns (not catch-on-fire-and-burn burns). As to what was left, refer to the very good post made earlier in regards to plane crashes and their debris afterwards. Because they're evi, duh! That failure was actually on the hands of the military personell at the time. They didn't know how to react and weren't sure of what was going on. That wasted time caused their lateness. Largely it was confusion in the chain of command and a lack of knowledge about the situation at the time it was occuring. -
Globalization Trotters! An Essay.
The Postman replied to The Postman's topic in Political Discussion
Again, I'm confused here. I say that globalization destroys local cultures, imports from those cultures only what Western society considers appealing or marketable. I never suggest that the native populations are "too dumb" to understand it. I do realize however that there are many factors to overcome in these areas, largely low infrastructure and, to a greater degree, corrupt local government. Those two factors alone make the modernization of any developing country a difficult one. I even go so far as to suggest that the benefits of globalization so far have been greatly one-sided. That MNCs have reaped more profit and benefit than the areas they've gone into. Mawibse, did you even read this piece or did you just assume what it was about? -

you do know that brazil probably didn't have the same on-the-scene reporting that we have here in the US ya know, where the attacks happen? Everything you talk about in this thread smacks of an outsider's ignorance to the situation. -

And neither did the flight that hit the Pentagon. -
Your opinions are fine enough to have, but take the time to actually form a larger argument and make a better attempt at English. This is your first warning.

Globalization Trotters! An Essay.

They're from the book. Alright, where's your source then? I have a fancy notion, howabout you cut out the ad hom attacks and go for some actual intellectual merit in your posts? Building something for the corporation can mean making sure the area around the place where they build is properly supported with infrastructure of various types. Chua never states that all MNCs are doing good around the world, but she does list several examples of where MNCs have benefited the areas around them. I took the opinion that while globalization can be good it needs extensive reform. What the hell are you getting at here? -

I gave my sources at the end of the essay. They were books given to me by my International Politics professor who used to work at the Brookings Institute. You can't really get more credible. No, they specifically mentioned improved infrastructure in the traditional sense. The companies need roads and they need electricity, sewage, and water. By getting these themselves they also provide for the area around them. Both of these factoids were from the book by Amy Chua who is a widely accredited proponent of globalization reform. I'm found her book a very interesting read, it was also very accessible (not too hard to read). I suggest giving it a look over. -

Actually, most MNCs pay 40% to 100% higher than local wages. I'm curious about this. Kosmo do you have an article or source? -

Actually that bit about MNCs helping out around them shocked me when i found out about it. I underestimated them as well. Companies like Hewlett Packard and another tech company I can't remember the name of both helped build infrastructure around them for their workers' benefit. -
Recently finished this essay for my international politics class. The topic was globalization. Enjoy! Rourke, John T, et al. “Taking Sides: Clashing Views on Controversial Issues in World Politics” McGraw Hill, 2006. Chua, Amy. “World on Fire” Anchor Books, 2003, 2004

This is crackpot bullshit. It doesn't deserve even lip service because the "science" behind it is so fundamentally flawed. Listen. Two planes hit the WTC and another plane hit the Pentagon. That's what happened. There's no two ways about it. Anymore mod sass and I'll see to it that actions are taken against you. Your first warning.
