  1. Videos and long descriptions are good but they should only be considered complimentary. You need shorter descriptions and the ability for an employer to quickly look at who you are. You gotta remember, a lot of people hiring look at a lot of portfolios. You need to make sure they can look at your stuff quickly and effectively.
  2. this game looks interesting, but i hope it doesn't disappoint like Dungeons did :/
  3. i'm pretty excited about this, but it does look bad.
  4. i kind of agree with this witcher 2 does look way better, but it is still early.
  5. never played any age of wonders, any good?
  6. I can give you feedback from an employers perspective... especially when i post a job opening and i have to filter through applicants. My current favorite portfolio reference is how HP laid out his -> http://www.helderpinto.com/ (currently down). Flash is generally frowned upon, its just a bit annoying. You're an LD, not a web-designer. That doesn't mean make a shitty web-site, but it does mean don't try to woo over employers by crazy fancy flash effects and the like... a thumbnail gallery is my favorite. Right now your web-site is a broken mess, you should try to get a template. Elements are broken everywhere, fonts and presentation is poor, So... 1) Videos are the last thing i'd watch. Honestly, unless I saw the most amazing portfolio of stills ever would i spend time to watch a video. Videos are for animators, and should only be used by LDs as a complimentary thing - not the primary. 2) I always love explanations of a level from the top down, take a pic of your layout, or even draw it out in photoshop. Highlight design elements and your theory behind why you do what you do. 3) As an LD, art isn't as important. Its important for designers to have an art perspective so they don't design something that will send artists into hell trying to make sense of a level layout. If you're applying at a studio that requires the LD to do the art as well, then it definitely does matter. All depends on where your'e trying to go there. Most studios these days are dividing LDs with set dressers. 4) you have these extensive in depth analysis about your levels, but as an employers i'm probably not going to read these unless i'm happy with what i've saw and i'm going to interview you. You need to simplify this analysis. 5) The content itself is something else, you need to really focus on what your strengths are and what your weaknesses are. Remove the weaknesses. Portfolios should be quality > quantity. If you did stuff 5 years ago and are still showing it off, and it looks bad, you should really remove it. A good start, but i do recommend you get in deep now and work with the community here. Work hard and pump your portfolio up more!

An old coworker of mine is trying to get this game up on Steam Greenlight really cool guy, and this game looks neat. he's the author of Deus Ex and Deus Ex Invisible War, so i definitely respect the guy (and he's a good designer/programmer) go vote and check it out! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=123635439
  9. i don't get it, did you make this or something?
  10. You mean this article? http://kotaku.com/59...-you-might-fear You have my attention This is exactly the bullshit i'm talking about, and yes this article. World of Warcraft had influence from Everquest, but that was it. Almost every mainstream MMO post WoW has been a "WoW Clone". That guy says that shit, then proceeds to describe WoW with slightly different features (RE: Age of Conan, Rift, The Secret World, Tabula Rasa, Auto Assault, Guild Wars, etc., etc., etc., etc.). It's a WoW clone. You know when an FPS is a CoD clone, and the argument can't be used that "WELL DOOM WAS OUT BEFORE THAT DERP DERP DERRRRR".
  11. I think Sega being with Relic will be awesome. Vigil was done because they were just starting a new IP and no one wants to buy that burden... where as these other studios are all about to release something. Keep in mind theres a whoooole lot of back catalog still with THQ. I have the full "shit to buy" list sitting on my desk....its at least 40 pages and in 6 point font. I emailed Rubin last night asking if i can just buy Nexuiz license rights off them instead of going to auction... which will be who-knows-when.

    Cyberpunk 2077

True, nothing is more awkward then watching porn with other guys in the room... Slowly watch them turn from normal people to savage beasts.
  13. because Nintendo is on an 'artistic' kick lately with Zelda.

    Cyberpunk 2077

I surf backpage.com escorts about 4 hours a day before ever actually doing "work"
  15. The game is a WoW clone. yet another one. Kotakus article where the designers tried to defend it as not being a WoW clone was laughable. it's quite sad, really. whatever, just leaves the gates open for everyone else who wants to do something cool. Neat trailer, though it was all over the place.
  16. Awwwwwww yeah!
  17. DMX
  18. watched this last night-> http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758798/ Pretty good, was definitely trying for a Snatch/Pulp Fiction but you know.. with the whole "Hey we're Canada we have crime too right guys???" other than that i watched this last night. the story of the manliest man alive http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siH5ouzbsEw
  19. I misspelled Unannounced on purpose, btw.
  20. Hey guys, I am looking for someone to do some freelance work with me to create a set of Props for a prototype i'm currently working on. It's a pretty big set. I'm still collecting what all it actually includes even... I posted this info on facebook as well for those of you who have me on there. Run down- Full medieval prop set (indoor/outdoor/hero) Diffuse / Normal / Spec / Opacity where required I don't care about super high fidelity normal maps. Making them in crazybump or ndo is fine with me. Must make collision, material, and prepare in CryENGINE 3 Must use Atlas Texturing Hell you could probably do all the texturing with nDo2 and dDo This isn't a task for newbie artists, but it's also not an extremely difficult one. Although the visual bar is high, I am welcoming shortcuts most artists would frown upon because it is a Prototype. The objective is quantity > speed > quality If you're interested, send me a PM with your portfolio. If I like what I see i'll get you the details. Pay is TBD with a quote. Thanks!
  21. Maybe i gotta see a directors cut of Robin Hood... that movie, like most of Ridley Scott's stuff, was WAAYYY too much story smashed into a very little timeline.... the kingdom of heaven directors cut vs. the regular version is like watching 2 different movies. The directors cut puts its right in my top 10 favorite movies of all time.
  22. Really cool. Can't tell you how many times i've hated chopping up textures... if you ever get the chance, one day get it working with brick shapes
  23. sorry, let me rephrase that... it is, hands down, the best multiplayer fps game out right now
  24. Why... there's just no point because the game is the best multiplayer game out right now and theres things i want to buy in it i play really serious in it, even with an organized clan. I'm a sucker to Free To Play if i get really into a game. I feel compelled to throw money at the game because I want to support the devs and get all the really good stuff. I've spent over $400 on Lords of Ultima before D: I could just as equally play forever and not spend money on the game but to buy a weapon would take foreeevverrr... unless you're in a liberator going after low population bases (ghost capturing) it can take a really long time to get certs...
