Based on this information we can safely conclude that 53% of the worlds population lives in Europe and 36% lives in North America. There are also only 4 people in the entire continent of Africa. How's that for collegiate science.

I like the idea of texture contests. A very excellent idea IMHO would be to have Mike or one of the other highquality 2d designers create a single texture for the basis of a contest. Then using the theme setup in that texture, have the artists let their imagination run wild and create a series of textures that compliment that single one. You could incorporate all three ideas posty mentioned in one contest. That way, the textures could then be used in creating a map instead of just put forth toward a contest. i.e. someone makes a texture of a stone walk with metal grating in the center. Then another texture artist creates a wall to go with it overgrown in vines. Then another person creates a building to match and another a mountain texture to fit the theme. -
I wanted to add rust, but i've never really learned a good way, the rust on the upper left was the best i could create on short time. Just a combination of a few colors, a paintbrush, and blur, smudge, and burn/dodge tools.

And yes, I realize that using the same base for the signs can become repetitive, but anyone who decides to point this out should recognize that these signs will rarely be placed near enough to matter, and they will never attempt to be tiled. http://www.grif.lv/prods.php?cid=14〈=en This website is a great resource for warning signs should anyone else be interested in making them. Keep in mind also, that the object is to make them better. Textures dont necessarily have to be hi res copies. If you can make them better and still fit in the theme then that's the idea. I know alot of the signs in the halflife wad are not close to being accurate to actual signs especially safety signs standardized by different organizations.

I was just curious as to what the mapcore community has accomplished. I mean, obviously we have a shit load of talent in all fields here, and we've had our niche in the internet for quite sometime, but I was curious as to what the community has accomplished on a person by person basis outside the realm of the community. List anything you feel is an accomplishment.

make the sun and the gold metal part 2 different layers if they arent already. Then put different textures on each different type of metal. It looks odd with the gold medallion and the silver sun composed of the one piece.

Actually, I hear doom3 is quite the opposite from what the doom franchise began as.

So there is an interest then? I like the idea of modding for HL2. Since deathmatch is relatively simple with code and light on the concepting, we might actually to get a steady project out very shortly after the release. If we could just get a coder and a few major key concepts out soon we would be good. I think I'll start a new thread shortly regarding specifics if people still seem interested. IMHO #mapcore has the talent to create an excellent mod, and it would be a great project where any members of the channel can contribute as much or as little as they like into an ever evolving portfolio.

personally i think it'd be downright awesome if gamespot posted something like that. That's so much free PR. People would flock to the channel just to see what the hell all the fuss is about. And then we can ban them.... -
Just a thought. But maybe a few people around here happen to have some talents that they'd like to use on a fun project. Basically maybe a HL deathmatch mod that would actually be fun to play. Don't get me wrong, HLDM and DMC are good deathmatch games, but I think it'd be nice to have something new. I wouldn't say anything serious where we have a massive team constantly collaborating to create the best product possible the first go around, but if there was someone who knew some code who wants to give it a go, it would be cool to have mapcore community members throw in their time and talents where ever possible. Just a thought. Maybe this isn't feasable at all, you tell me.

This is a map I made years ago with the concept originally drawn from one of the maps I made for a 30 minute contest for mapwars (#contest). I decided I liked the theme of the contest map and turned it into a fully realized concept and full size dmc map. The map is officially labeled as "b1" to indicate a work in progress, but since it never got extensive play testing or even edited deus_b1 is pretty much a final version. However, If anyone is interested in playtesting this map in a server of 4-8 people, and we could come up with some notable improvements, I would definitely locate the source file and release a new version. At anyrate, this is the first formal release of the map without any gusto, without any hype, and without any expectations. Download: "Gods of the Machine" deus_b1.zip Screenshots: Edit: To assess a question over the complexity of the map... The layout is fairly straightforward. It is multilayered and is entirely open save for a few walls. The map plays as much vertically as it does horizontally. And as far as the layout being confusing, I assure you that though it may look so in the pictures, the layout is chiefly a few connected paths that all interact with each other. If you ever find yourself lost (I don't think that this would ever be a problem), you can easily find a way to your destination by scanning across the map.
