Algor reacted to Pericolos0 in Your Favorite game intro
really? I felt like I was just watching a badly acted b-movie. Everything was scripted out for you, even the camera movement.. it didn't use any of the unique interactive storytelling you can do with games as a medium. Just a first person movie (a bad one)
Half-life intro was also fully scripted of course, but you got to look at things and explore at your own pace. Incredibly memorable

And the rabbit hole goes deeper.
In this thread Joakim Mogren posted "Thank you for your interest in the Phantom Pain. The development process has been long and...strange...but we hope it lives up to expectations. Please look forward to GDC". Now if you check his profile, you see a strange user video : http://www.gametrail...hantom-pain-mme
At 40 seconds in, for like a frame, you see this:
Meanwhile in the Ground Zeroes trailer:
This is some deep shit. Futhermore, the video title itself posted by Joakim Mogren starts with "TF-XXI", which is apparently a reference to this : http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Miscellaneous_groups#Force_XXI . The title also contains "TEWT" which means "Tactical Exercise Without Troops" : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_exercise
Now back to the Ground Zeroes trailer:
Is "The Phantom Pain" about the first VR trained child soldier? Chico?!

Word, it has been a dream of mine to have a massive catalogue of reference to go through that can be tagged and filtered

Algor reacted to Steppenwolf in Tropes vs Women in Video Games
Eh i don't identify myself with the youtube troll crowd. There are hateful, vile comments below pretty much every youtube video not just feminist videos. These people will write whatever it takes to rile up others. And these people are very loud so it's easy to mistake their bile for majority opinion.
The Amazing Atheist made a video about it. It's not exactly one of his best but he makes some valid points in regard to this phenomenon and how to deal with it.

When the straight white men of MapCore unite to talk about how sexism / homophobia / racism isn't real and isn't worth talking about, especially in the game industry, you're all sending a message to other MapCore community members -- don't post, don't participate, your feelings aren't valid.
I think that's okay in EOT because that's the special space for it; I avoid EOT and I'm fine with it.
But if you do it out here, in public, keep in mind that people are going to see this, and you're making someone like me feel less welcome here. What, so I'm going to have to start avoiding the "Gaming Discussion" forums too? I wonder how the women of MapCore feel?
I'm not saying "censor" your sexist opinions; feel as sexist as you want. But just know that there's a chilling effect on others you're intimidating with that attitude. A consequence. And really, you end up looking tactless.
Don't worry, no one is going to speak-up and complain because they feel intimidated. They'll just leave.

I actually think it's really nice, but you could tweak it a little more to be correct:
A twilight, dawn, dusk approach would be really interesting if pulled off right (http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/natural-light-photography.htm)

To me I think it is the thin detail objects that give a realistic vibe. Many of the walls and even windows are are subdivided with reinforcements, some even subdivided into smaller ones with diagonal supports. Rather than having large, bold, stylized shapes and textures , it appears very calculated and made to support the structure like it would in real life. This definitely applies to the round red room and not so much with the exterior.

Quicklook on giantbomb. Looks good, but sure could benefit from being aware this is for a presentation and tone all the moving and turning way down. I am excited to check it out, I think I preordered after the beta closed
