Well hello there! How nice of you to stop by. Come, let me show you what's been happening in my world over the last while.

There's been a lot of work going in to the game over the past few months. So much, in fact, that I struggle to remember all the new stuff! But here are some of the big gameplay things I've been playing around with:

Seeing as ya'll loved the bullets bouncing off the frying pan so much, I pondered on how I could expand on that even more and create some more directed gameplay moments with the same essence. So I made some snazzy signs which behave similar to the frying pan, just that they can't be kicked about.

So I've been thinking about what the 'boss battles' should be like. A traditional set up for a boss fight didn't seem quite right, so I've been thinking about it more in terms of "memorable moments" or "punctuation" through the progress of the game. After making the motorcycle chase it seemed to fit as a memorable moment and I wanted to make more similar things. So I made this sky fall section. There'll still be "bosses" that you fight, but the focus in those sections will be more zoomed out than just focusing on the boss interaction on it's own (at least that's the current plan).

I've also added some extra, more casual, gameplay elements. I thought it could be interesting to have an alarm the enemies can trigger, giving you a time window to kill the enemy before he reaches the alarm, kind of thing. I figured using some time pressure is good in a game were you can slow down time. It gives you a practical use of the slow motion.

I also made this sniper enemy. The main point of it is that they can shoot you from off the screen, but you'll see their laser aiming in on you, allowing you to dodge the bullets with some skill and timing.

I also thought it'd be interesting to have some melee enemies that charge at you and have a bit of extra life, creating more time pressure, again.

I guess that's all for this DevLog entry. I still have some things in the backlog to share with you, but that will have to wait until next update.

Oh yeah, just thought I'd mention a little disclaimer: Any of the features you see in this whole DevLog (including other posts beyond this one) might not make it in to the final game. I'm just sharing what I've been playing around with. Just thought it'd be good to mention that in case someone would get disappointed if they don't end up seeing something they thought were cool in the final game. The things I've shown so far that probably won't make it in to the game is the impulse rifle, electricity gun and the drone. Though the core idea of some of these things might still make it in to the game in a different form. I guess that's just the nature of games development.

    Until next time!
    Buh-bye.

Thought I'd share a bit of progress of the scene I'm currently working on. It will be for a character a friend at Yager is doing right now (you can follow his progress on http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=138052). Basically a little old kinda viking like church.
Someone at Crytek will probably rig it and another dude from Yager will do some animations for a small ingame cutscene , VFX will be done by a chick from Yager, so we have a nice little colab going on. The VFX in the scene are mine though so far.
    Hope you like it.

Did you even ever play a MGS game?

Please people, understand that in games, more often than not, realism is enemy of fun. And Kojima's team knows and understands this and they've been taking liberties since the original MGS to ultimately make the game more fun.

If you want realism, go for a hike.

Are you choosing activities where your character level is >= the activity level?
You should be able to click the right stick to focus on other players in the world, from there you get a sub menu where you can invite them to your fireteam.

Sprony, if you are fireteam leader (or if someone in your fireteam is leader) they can go to the roster tab and open up the fireteam to the public. I think by default it is for friends only. It definitely sucks to have people drop out, but this can be a way to allow people back in if it does happen.

I haven't played it with friends yet (no love!) but I have joined some random fireteams where noone talked.  It works...totally fun.  That said, I'm having fun in SP simply because the combat is so fucking good.  Yeah it is very story light which I think is weird given Bungie's capabilities and, you know, there are a lot of smart people out there who can get stories working in games.  But whatever, I understand how some people don't like it but I'm glad I bought it and plan to continue playing it.

So I got this for the PS4 the other day, and I have to say that thus far I haven't really experienced any technical issues whatsoever. I know there have been multiple patches to sort shit out on the PS4 so I'm guessing they did the trick.

As for the game itself, I think I like it more than Battlefield 3. The maps just seem a bit more my thing, very open and epic unlike BF3's multitude of corridor levels. The weapons, vehicles, gameplay really are just typical Battlefield and not very different from every single other one I've played — but it works, so why change it?

This is the first time I've experienced Battlefield in my living room and I'm liking it. Having my sound system blasting out the unsurprisingly excellent audio and everything up on the big screen is great,  and although I was seriously struggling with the stick aiming I've now had somewhat of an epiphany and realised that I've been pretty much using analogue sticks wrong my whole life, lol... I'm now getting pretty good with them.

Everything else (crouching, eagle sights, firing, movement, vehicles) actually feels better on a PS4 pad, and it's a big plus over a keyboard that you can adjust the exact speed that you move with the stick. For example, making your tank crawl along really slowly to avoid detection doesn't require that you have a finger spasm on the movement key, you just move the stick a tiny bit. The same applies to crawling and proning, so you can move along really slowly to avoid being spotted.

Basically I'm surprised but pleased that playing it on a PS4 feels much the same as when I started playing BF3, BF2142, BF2, and BF1942 on PC for the first time. They've nailed the feel, in fact I suspect that due to decisions they've made with the UI it feels even better on console now. I'm sure this has infuriated a lot of PC players but that's how it goes I guess.

Overall it's good, if what you want is another Battlefield game that plays like all the rest. Also I am as excellent with jets as ever:

Yeah I was going to say the same thing, awesome character models!
Kind of crazy to think how many quests there were in that 35 minute video. Everything looked pretty solid, some places like the swamp seemed visually noisy and hard to make out the trails and stuff, but maybe not a huge deal for a game like this.

I love it and couldn't imagine doing anything else. Didn't matter if it was a good project, shitty project, doomed to fail pitch or whatever, I loved working on all of them because I get to do my hobby for a living. Getting to release a succesfull game some day would be nice , but in the end it's all about the journey, not the end.

Boom badabing, I hate this "pro gamer commentary" bullshit even more than the acted "friends playing games together".
Watching without sound is better, looks pretty fun actually.
I just hope it's as responsive as the L4D games. My problem with most modern fps-games is that they're so sluggish even with mouse and keyboard.

Every fps-game ever needs to be based off of ID/Source movement

cool - just followed the turret example, and added some visibility checking, so it only fires when it can see you. Very neat. Next I'm going to add some homing rockets, accuracy variable and make it so you can destroy it.
