Funny, F.E.A.R runs alright on my not-so-cutting-edge Athlon XP 3000 (something's wrong with it, it's clocking in at 1.1ghz), 1gig of ram and R9800. Even when I max stuff out at 1024x800 it still remains playable enough to do combat, albeit not exactly smoothly. Onto the game itself: firefights felt oddly uninvolving, despite the crap flying all around the place, it never felt seriously satisfying. Weapons are a bit generic, as Mazy observed. Environments are dull, only the paranormal tension kept the interest up. The scary bits are alright, but it doesn't scale the heights of Silent Hill (pun fully intended). The ladder bit made me jump though. For some reason I never felt at risk during these super-natural bits. Definately not a terrifying experience - perhaps it's because the combat acts as a pressure valve. Maybe the game opens up later, most opening levels seem to be a bit dire (maybe Monolith should have done a Valve and released something in the style of Uplink?).

Third pic is lovely

Aye, it's a very nice place. If you do go though, only stay in Rome for a couple of days - I stayed a week and frankly, there's not enough to fill the week. Southern Italy is beautiful, well worth the excursion if you're in Italy. Thanks for the kind comments guys

Went to Rome about a month ago, it's a great place. I was originally going to put these pics in with the first roll from my new SLR, but I managed to expose that and ruin it Shot with some very un-fancy equipment (A colour Boots disposable point'n'shoot and a B&W one). I don't think they're too shabby. Token cat pic included ~ Thumbs: I've got a few more which I consider to be up to scratch, I might scan them later

Really like the mood in the jellyfish one, 'tis very serene.

Everyone's given you pretty sound advice so far. Not to scare you off, but you have a lot of work ahead of you. Learning to create content for modern games is a very daunting task. Don't be put off though, keep at it. Set yourself clear learning goals, work hard and take people's feedback seriously. We'd be nothing without crates, and you know it

I prefer editable poly, it keeps the model cleaner while you're working on it, less confusing mike-0, I don't think so, you'll probably have to export to md3 (Q3 format) then convert in milkshape :/ Props for not wanting to pirate anything btw

Someone should compile all these pearls of wisdom Peri keeps spitting out -
Oooh, I like that one IR. I think it could use some algae-slime to break up the uniform colour scheme, that drain thingie needs more gunk over it Really liking all the entries so far, they're top-notch work

Nice texture there Sven_E, it looks pretty solid, although I think it could use some stronger highlights on the lower edges. h2 - really skittish, it looks unnatural. All the lines are really bold without any real attempt to put in highlights and shadows.

Cheers for the sagely words, I'll probably go for the wide angle, was using the camera the other day and it really started to bug me I'm pretty keen on landscapes and it'd mean I'd have more flexibility.

Congrats mate, hope you had a good 'un

Looks very nice and clean. Bright too

Hi there, I just bought my first camera (A Zenit 11 with a Helios 44M lens). I need advice as to what to buy next: -A wide angle lens (the current one is a portrait one and doesn't do scenic shots so well). -A polarising filter for the existing lens. Other recommendations/suggestions are welcome. As you might have guessed from my choice of camera, my budget is exceptionally limited (still debating whether I can afford a camera strap ), so please suggest accordingly.

On Topic: I always thought the sims were a bit amoral. Monogamy means nothing to them; it's like a free-love commune. On Grammar: Call me prejudiced, but a badly constructed post almost always gets ignored or devalued by me. It conveys an impression that the writer isn't sincere about what he or she has written, that they don't won't take the time to ensure their words are easily comprehensible to others.

First one is really cool - the density of foliage and muted colours remind me of a William Morris design.

Nothing came close to the first tomb raider's sense of exploration and excitement. Back then I felt genuinely excited about getting to the next section, if only to see what would come next.

Blending between the wall and the trims looks really, really unnatural :/ I'd lose the drop shadow if I were you.
