  1. Epic laughing out loud momment, you know I'm surprised it's taken this long for a "con" like this to happen.
  2. Oh great work for a 5-6 month development cycle with half a dozen people. Might I remind negative posters who diss Uni projects it usually takes a good year for professionals in much larger groups to make modern games, consering your often starting from no experience at all. That being said, I think these broad and generalized course's can be useful, but then you don't really spend long enough doing a single aspect to stand out in a world full of so many talented modders. This is why usually a released modification far outweighs the importance of a game course, not always though I guess it depends how old school and clued in the developers are. My suggestion to any "general" game development school would be to split the 4 year cycle into 2 phases, the first year would be a genral outlook of the different jobs commonly seen in game development, art, animation, design and programming. Then after that year you decide which aspect of development interests you the most and the following 3 years are spent learning that skill to a compitent level, certainly enough to get a job as a junior. The biggest downside to a system like this is the amount of special teachers you would need. That way, you could potentially team up and make something really good, it's far better speaking from some experience than having everyone in the group think they should design, make art and code :S What a royal mess. Anyway, bravo.
  3. Such is with the term "Money isnt everything" but then it sure has quite a big chunk
  4. You Know, I worked on a game that was being published by Sony that was dropped just before full development started, It wasnt 2.5 years work but at least a year. Like Klein said though some good can come out of it if you use content for your personal portfolio. One talented artist I know has worked in the games industry for 6 years and still didnt have a published title :X now that is rotten luck? I'm not dissing Sony particually, as canned projects are common before full development, but that far in it really must suck.
  5. Hey Zaphod, Love the work you two have done on this project, visually it looks great and I remember watching a video of the test game play and it looks damn fun. I'll be getting it also Theres something to be said about working on a project that really appeals to you, and being able to find others who can help you realise it, it's always more rewarding doing what you want rather than being told what to do.
  6. Oh cool stuff, nice work proccess you have
  7. Very good video indeed, not much to say really other than I agree. Give it maybe 10-15 years when the art form of games reaches a more "mature" general outlook, that's from everyone including parents and politians then we will see a good use of sexual content. Just look at how long it's taken TV and films to get past all the button up visuals and the fuss it created in doing so It requires different generations to change opinions, that takes time.
  8. It's a shame when titles so many developers have worked on get canned Chances are I know a few of them.

  10. Dux hit it right on the nail, I LOVE the colour without all the de-saturated + brown and super dirty look most visually impressive games do these days. Great work everyone I'll be getting it for sure.
  11. Neato, i'm level 21 and still on the starter island Instead of doing the SP missions at the start I've done most of them tonight at level 20. Suppose I'm about ready to leave zee noobs behind Toon name is Rainbringer, ranger on crom.
  12. I played this on a server a few weeks ago, it was real fun.
  13. Cool map matey! Nice work on the updates.
  14. Bummer, my real life matey is on Crom, So I guess i'll play there Who knows if I enjoy the game my alt will defo be on your server.
  15. I prefer using Maya, that being said I've spent most of my modeling time in it. Also I was shown allot of tricks while working at a game studio, kind of helpful having some great artists there to help Maya for me is more logical and I love the interface, it reminds me somewhat of UED or Hammer where as 3dm is a jumble of complicated icons and deep menues I get lost in. Now they are both owned by the same company I can't see either Maya or Max losing popularity, they both do the same job in slightly different ways. For the record I think maya's official demoreel kicks max's ass
  16. Indeed, it's the same price as I pay for all my MMO's I've decided to hold off attempting to play the game for a week, hopefully they will fix most of the performance and login issues I'm not in a race to get to lvl 80 before most players.
  17. So, I can't find a thread on the forums about it Is anyone going to play it? I've pre-ordered my copy and can't wait. According to the official site it's the best selling MMO before release, that's some serious hype. It seems allot of people really like the setting and gameplay or are just really bored of WoW Anyway, it's being released on Friday in the EU and already out in the USA. http://www.ageofconan.com/
  18. Good question, I'd say the only game in the last few years that I regret buying was Ground Control, it was a technical issue that stopped me playing the game, I got pretty sick of searching for patches/driver updates just to play the game. Also although I really LOVE the game, the constant issues with Supcoms 4 gb memory crash is fustrating and at time I wish i'd have not bothered, it's "fixed" in the expansion pack but it appears they refuse to do so in the original game, there is an unofficial patch but i'm not really nerdy enough to understannd how to install it :S So yes, I play every game I buy for a minimum of 4 hours, so even if I think it was "ok" (which is everything really) it's not a bad purchase. I buy every game and film i want to play, I don't consider myself fussy with mony either, if i buy something i really don't enjoy i will just throw it to the side and forget about it, not moan about what a waste of money it was. It's bad purchases that makes the good ones even better. Sure if you are tight for money it's worth playing a demo or reading reviews but people that expect games to be good or download them illegaly to "try before they buy" really miss the point of entertainment, we all want more of it, however, your more of a person by moving on than complaning about developers. So it's technical issues that fustrate me with purchases, I belive the most important part of me spending money on a game/film is to have it work without hiccups.
  19. I need to do some balancing changes, currently the first CP is really easy to capture, as it takes the defending team too long to reach it, from my experiences if enough engineers go on the ceiling level at A it can be one hell of a blood bath, I got 12 turrets kills in one life up there lol Hopefully in the next week I will have time to work on quite a few issues
  20. it's crazy but i've only played the 2d one that came on a floppy disk for free, it was such a fun game lol I'll have to play them because I really love the setting.
  21. Yay for pimping my own thread but ... Yeehaw has been released, golly gosh I hear you saying to yourself. So, for the next week or so I'll be just running my new map so I can test it with the handful of players who decide to have a play
  22. Ohnoes 2d has released a new map! ok it's beta but i'm still pretty excited, and look so is chuck! Right seriously check out the screenshots! I'm not all that happy with some of the visuals, but the purpose of this release is to find out if the map is fun and of course zap the amazon rainforests worth of bugs there will no doubt be. To download head over to http://www.2d-chris.com (Ok i'd link the downloads here but I'm a forum newb and I can't remember the link code) Or you can download the map directly from the Mapcore TF2 maps server, for the meanwhile I'm just running yeehaw ... Cheers, all crits, comments and slices of cake are welcome.
  23. Actually I meant expensive without dynamic shadows on (as default) with them on it's just end of story. Also, it appears in that big room with lots of spotlights you have some kind of particle smoke going on? Thats also a killer.
