  1. my ps3 controller just died while watching netflix and I cant recharge it again. Want my ps3 Thrik? I literally have no use for it now as I'll just use my pc to watch netflix anyways...
  2. Heres a link to some cool pictures from the development: http://imgur.com/a/P7jZJ One thing that struck my eye was a picture of Romero working on E1M7 Look at the editor.. looks so familiar lol
  3. Got it in the mail today Sorry about the blurry picture, but my phone camera sucks Its a large t-shirt and it fits perfectly, I'm very happy with how it turned out. Just hoping it will not fade quickly in the wash
  4. Yeah I guess
  5. All the guys at work are playing this now hehe My boss suggested an in house tournament and one of the guys quickly chimed in that it wouldn't really be fair because he didn't have enough cards yet so they decided to hold some form of draft tournament. I thought that was interesting, considering that this "isn't pay to win", but clearly here he would have to pay to become an equal in our in house tournament.
  6. Oh you can be sure I do My brother is addicted to the game and spends hundreds of dollars (or countless hours trading) on it per month just to keep up with the pros. And its eventually where Hearthstone is going to end up as well, and I don't like games like that. I like even playing fields
  7. No, not a bad thing, it just counters the argument that one current deck, which is cheap now, means that the game will always be that way and that it is not pay to win. And the way F2P was implemented in hearthstone is pay to win, there is no doubt about that, it is just very "nice" compared to how supercell or EA does it. I get that it would have been harder to do free to play like TF2/Dota2 with cosmetics instead of buying game play (cards) like MTG, but that doesn't mean that I should like it For me this is a black/white area. Either you are a free to play (pay2win) game or you're just a f2p game. There are no grey areas in this definition for me. If you are pay2win but really nice about it (like hearthstone) then you are still pay2win. Just as Diablo 3 was (but that was more punishing if you didn't pay up), League of Legends is (either pay for the new champion or suffer losses the first day it arrives) and looks like Heroes of the Storm is going to be as well (same deal). It's really simple. You have a game, and if the payment method (in app purchases) in any way or form changes game play (in your favor), then it is pay to win. One scenario that exemplifies this: If you have two players, neither has played a single game of Hearthstone. and both players are equally good and has the same set of skills. They are in fact clones of each others. One player spends 100$ on the game purchasing cards, the other does not. They play 100 matches 1v1. Which way will the win percentage go? If you guess in the favor of the one who spent 100$ then you agree with my assessment that this game is pay to win. Use the same example in TF2 or Dota2 and one player will have more useless hats than the other, which will have no impact in game. But don't get me wrong, I don't hate on pay 2 win, hell, even the game I'm working on right now is also pay 2 win to some degree. But at least I recognize the games that are using it.
  8. Yeah but the nature of card games is that the meta changes and cards become bad or good all depending on the months flavor
  9. That is not the case dude, if you play the game enough, you'll understand it's not. You get a 5 card pack very regularly, and you're always getting points to either buy more decks with said points, or get into the Arena which gets you a lot of loot. The more you play, the more you get. This game, as with every blizzard game was built to make you come back to it again and again. It's a free game man, but as you and I both know nothing in this world is trully free. That said, i'm not of the opinion this game in specific feels pay to win, as biased as that might sound it's my honest opinion. So... we agree then? I was maybe overstating things when I said you'd have to invest an ungodly amount of hours into it to get a good deck but consider this. I've played the game for a couple of hours. I have almost no cards compared to those of my friends who have played a hundred hours. But I've watched a lot of videos and I don't consider them to be better than me. But it's practically impossible for me to beat them, because I don't have the cards. Skill doesn't even factor into it at that point. But could I could shell out the $$ and then start winning... Which, to me, is pay to win. Granted, they make it feel fair because they always match you up against other people who has the same amount of "skill" (cards) as you. But if you play a private match against a friend you will start to feel the pay to win element. Now consider Dota 2 in comparison and you'll know what I mean when I say that a free to play can actually be that without it putting breaks on the game play.
  10. I'm surprised at the lack of flak Blizzard has gotten over releasing a game that essentially is pay to win. Is the game so good that people forgot all about it or is this kind of pay to win okay? Before you ask,"why is this pay to win, Skjalg?" It's essentially a card game, where you need a certain amount of certain cards in order to beat your opponent and if you want those cards you either have to invest an ungodly amount of time or pay for booster packs (or draft tournaments).

    Beers

What mazy said any IPA is a good IPA imho.
  12. What struck me as a little weird in the trailer is that they pass earth off as this kind of lost hope because of all the pollution and stuff but in each shot that is taken over one of these huge cities you can see for miles and miles. Wheres the smog?
  13. I cut out sugar of my diet. Two full weeks with immense head ache and tiredness followed by one week sick in the bed. I started eating mostly fruits (apples and bananas) for lunch and evening meals as well as cutting out products with high amounts of sugar like strawberry jam etc. And I quickly lost 10kg!! But the best part is that I have all this energy. Before, when I came home from work I was dead tired and just wanted to sleep an hour on the couch after dinner. But now I can run around and play with my kid which is awesome!
  14. As a programmer I cant listen to any podcasts or any music with easy to hear lyrics in them as it spaces me out. One example is that I might be starting a new story/task "create and implement the new chest drop that should be in zone a and k" I fire up visual studio to write some code. I search for things to do with "drop" or "item" to find something relevant. I remember items drop in the game, so I look at how the item drop code is done so that I can implement the chest drop in a similar fashion. I discover a nice class that seems to handle all the drop code, its called "DropManager". I read that class to understand it, check where it is used, oh its used in the input code that deals with touch and mouse events and HOLY DIVER You've been down to long in the midnight sea, Oh whats becoming of meeee.. Ride the tiger. You can see his stripes but you know he's clean Fuck where was I. Okay, look at the item drop code.. DropManager?
  15. I actually found his voice relaxing to listen to. Was pretty good
  16. I also bought a red t-shirt and a murg. Should be here soon... My guess is that it took 2 days to get to norway and then 14 days to get from Oslo to Drammen (30 min drive) just because Norwegian postal system is hell.
  17. omg that lighting is spot on for cold and wintery
  18. Would this survey be a part of the forum? Like maybe some extra fields in the Profile and you can fill it out with your current salary per year (in dollars), position and then have a field if you want it to be public or not (show up in your profile if people look). I think it would look bad to have it displayed under the avatar as there's already so much info there. Then Thrik could just pull all the data and have it listed on the front page or something. That way we'd have full control over this data instead of using some third party survey think that might or might not get updated.
  19. I'm 100% with Warby on this. Sharing what you earn should be mandatory. Hell it was/is even public knowledge in Norway. (the tax listings are/were public). They added the requirement that you have to log into your personal account (requires your id and some codes that are personal). And the person you look up gets a notification. I don't understand why this is a reason against sharing? What you are saying is 100% correct though, I just don't agree with the assessment that the uniqueness and comparing of employees should only be one mans job (your boss). I know for a fact that my boss does not know/care about all the qualities that our lead designer likes about me. Why shouldn't our lead designer have a say about my value to the team? Same point as above, basically. I don't agree that one manager should be the only guy to judge your skills. Competition is healthy, I think, especially when it benefits the guys receiving the pay check. In order to receive a higher pay check you actually have to earn it, and not only in the mind of one guy who you can (in some cases) suck up to, but to many people who would most likely value you higher for your contribution to the team or business. That's bullshit. At least where I work. But it might be at your place of work, because what is, and what is not, unprofessional is up to the people who work where you work. This thread is about trying to change that stigma I think. Finally, I'd just like to throw it out there that I earn 360 000 NOK before taxes (which ranges from 35~45% in Norway) Which is roughly 60 000$ or 44 000€ per year. Which is 3666€ per month.
  20. As requested, the first picture of her! She likes the milk
  21. Hahaha thanks guys Wife and daughter is doing just fine, sleeping a lot I figured I'd revive the old thread to put it into some context for those who didn't know it was my second one. Plus its recycling.. good for the environment and stuff
  22. This morning my wife delivered a healthy baby girl
  23. I think its worth noting that a lot of designer positions are very "art" related, so it is kind of hard to judge what your salary should be based off on your art. The guys selling paintings on the street sell their painting cheaply, whereas some paintings goes for millions just because its a different artist. But the time put into it might be same. But that doesn't mean the work has the same value. Same goes for engineering, to an extent, as code is not always just code. And the output of one coder vs another can vary greatly. There's positive and negative sides to this kind of "invidual" payment system, but it is clear that it doesn't work right now as the base salary is just too low or nonexistant.
