  1. Yeah I agree that de_dust is not his best work, I only mentioned it because its what made him kind of a big deal. But the real reason why I think he is the best is because he replicated the success with dust2 and cbble (and I thought aztec, but today I learned that he didnt create aztec, so I guess that just leaves those three very good maps Oh and he also made one of my favourite hl sp called ETC and ETC2
  2. The absolute best multiplayer level designer (imho) is David Johnston (http://johnsto.co.uk/), creator of de_dust, has moved onto becoming a programmer.

    Sleep

I was always a night owl myself. I would literally spend hours upon hours at my desk building maps, watching series/movies or browsing mapcore But if I stayed up intil 3am, I would usually sleep until 12-2pm. Often missing school because there was no way in hell I'd wake up at 8am. After graduating college (no idea how I managed to do that), and started at my first job, I started noticing that everyone else got up at 6-8am fine, while also having done stuff at home after 10pm. After a few months of having to go to bed at 7-8pm in order to get up at 8am, I started wanting to do more shit in the after noons. Like working on Pirates of New Horizons with warby. But then I overslept at work, because sitting up until midnight fucked me hard the next day. So, I felt so bad about how much I slept I ended up going to the doctor. My symptoms at the time were; I slept way too much. Always tired (but I thought it was just how life was). Snored loudly. The first thing my doctor told me to do was to pen down the hours I slept. If you are having trouble sleeping, in any way or form, this should be your first step towards fixing that problem. Because without knowing exactly how little/much you sleep and at what times, you can't really figure out what to do about it. On an average day I was sleeping about 12 hours. Now Furyo probably already know whats wrong The doctor scheduled me for a sleeping analysis. I went to bed with something looking like an oxygen mask as well as numerous sensors attached to various places on my chest and arms. The results were conclusive, I was not breathing properly during the night, and as such I was never reaching REM sleep (deep sleep). This is called Sleep Apnea. Research I've read indicate that as many as >10% suffers from it. My mother always told me I have a "tungt sovehjerte" (heavy sleeping heart). Which means that I just sleep really well or like to sleep really weel. Neither was the actual case, its just so normal that people dont think that theres actually something wrong. Because what happens is that my muscles relax so much that they close the airways. Then my brain stops receiving oxygen so it panics, "wakes me up" without me noticing it, so that the muscles in my throat opens up the airways again. Then this happens like every other minute. And as you might know, reaching REM sleep usually takes 30 minutes or so. So I was referred to surgery. They took out my toncils, which hurt like a mother fucker for 2-4 weeks, but all of a sudden I could sleep 6-8 hours and feel fucking fantastic! tl;dr if you sleep too much, get checked for sleep apnea.
  4. American Sniper was really really good. I want to see Imitation Game. Been watching Banshee for the last few days. Every episode is tits and violence, other than that it's nothing particular.
  5. I just got a key last week, but thank for offering Minos
  6. I think Destiny factored heavily into this decision, but also the fact that blizzard was kind of trying out new territory here and trying to create something new. And surprise, that costs a lot of money if you dont prototype heavily first with a small team until you know what you want. Just speculation of course. If I were to guess, then most of the people on titan is now working on Heroes of the Storm.. Because that game is standard Blizzard practice. You take what is already out there (Hon, Lol & Dota) and improve on it with the blizzard oomph!
  7. damn it, i just bought a shitty video card Its so tiny and makes no noise lol Gainward GeForce GTX 750Ti 2GB PhysX
  8. I've been doing a lot of work on the appartment lately. using made the skirting work I did look really awesome. (I I also put up a shelf over the kitchen counter with some LED lights underneath, which turned out real nice I also got a nail gun Its battery driven, so I dont have to lug around a damn compressor. Made the work a lot smoother.
  9. Notch has always said that his price is 2 billion dollars. Plus, he has gotten over the oculus buyout being a bad thing.
  10. At one point the price is just too damn high. People sell their babies for less. Selling minecraft will change nothing for notch or mojang. He will still be the guy who created minecraft.
  11. High five for passing math. (I barely passed to) ;D
  12. If the baby is screaming and someone speaks up as to why, hand them the baby and ask them to please handle it, since they obviously have a good grasp of what is wrong and how to fix it. Its a pretty passive agressive move, but it gets the job done
  13. What kind of renovations are you doing? Any chance that she can do it while you take care of the kids? I know its sounds off, but it seems to me that an underlying cause here to you not being happy is because she is not happy. She getting something to do besides cradling the kids 24/7 will be good for her. As well as you getting some alone time with your kids. Which is equally important. I know that feeling you describe. The feeling that you really really want to do something creative. Its really fucking hard to not think about a project once you start planning it in your head. I've actually been thinking about implementing quests for trolls vs vikings all day even though I have been home with the wife and the kids. But if you all of a sudden have two kids that you, and only you, must take care of for the next few hours because your wife is away or in the next room working on the kitchen or whatever, then it wont be that long before you no longer think those thoughts about that project that you feel an urge to do. Mainly because you dont have the time to sit down and worry about it, because you are to busy running after the kids. Does your wife have any friends nearby btw? Does she attend anything sociable? Like dance class, martial arts classes, swimming etc? Any place she can meet other poeple and just relax or do something besides the kids? She should definitively do that too (as well as the kitchen remodeling). You get to see awesome people every day at work, remember. She probably doesnt..
  14. We are on android (google apps and amazon app store). On your phone, if you click the http://bit.ly/trollsvsvikings link. You are not directed to an android store?
  15. We've now officially launched on all big mobile platforms as well as gotten featured (best new update on ios) on all of them http://bit.ly/trollsvsvikings
  16. Having kids is dangerous in that sense, because it restricts you heavily. I'd never even consider going into such a relationship before I knew I was where I wanted to be career wise. That basically means you will never be able to have kids while in the games industry, as its so volatile. if you know you are where you want to be career wise, that is absolutely no guarantee that you are going to stay there for the next 18-20 years. Its not even guaranteed you'll stay there the 9 months you SO is pregnant. In fact, I can actually guarantee that if you are in the games industry you will not work at the same place for 20 years. Out of curiosity; anyone know anyone that has been in the same job for the same company for 20 years in the games industry?
  17. Theres literally hundreds of studios in norway now. But noone has any money. And they all create small mobile games (which I dont play). The closest big swedish game companies are in Gothenburg I believe. And thats too far away...
  18. I'm not so sure anymore. And I don't really know why. I'm starting to think that I'm just making up reasons because I've felt like this at my two last employments. On one side, I should have felt really fortunate to be working at my previous job, because I learned so much from the other two programmers. On another side there was way too much work and you always had to do everything from scratch, which means there was a lot of "reinventing the wheel" going on. At my current job, I should feel really fortunate to be working there as well, because I am finally being able to learn about working on a game post-launch (and I dont mean just DLC). Stuff like implementing all the stuff we wanted to do, but couldn't do before the release date. Tweaking the funnel. Looking more in depth at monetization. Learning about ads and funnels and everything that is basically not just gameplay or gui programming. On the other hand the pay is shit and my co workers dont work as much as me. My salary now is the same as it was when I got out of the university. So basically my salary has been standing still for many many years. People I went to class with is earning twice as much as me. And work shorter days... And I am not creating games I want to play. Last I did that was with warby. warby made me believe in his game vision. And I was excited to put in 16 hours a da to make it happen. And lately, I've come to terms with the fact that since I have a responsibility to my wife and two kids, I can't move abroad and get a job at the two places who makes games I want to make. Valve or Blizzard. But who am I kidding, I could never get a job at valve. Maybe blizzard... But my wife would never let us move. meh.. If the company I work for now also folds, then I will probably have to make a huge life decision...

    DOTA 2

All of the above is possible and should be easy to do. This guy is streaming the remake of Element TD in dota 2 http://www.twitch.tv/quintinity/

    DOTA 2

The scripting stuff is a bit limiting because you dont have 100% control of input (keyboard/mouse/etc) and output (camera). Which means that you cant easily map mouse movement to camera movement. Which means you cant really create a new game with this, like an fps, with new controller schemes. Just maps for Dota 2. But those maps can still be interesting

    DOTA 2

it seems its all scripted in lua with c++ as a static back end. https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Dota_2_Workshop_Tools/Scripting/ But you also have the events/triggers stuff from source in hammer afaik.

    LawBreakers

Yeah the actual game mechanics werent that great, but it kind of is the perfect example of a moleyneuxiuys game because you get to chose to be good or evil. and not by some shitty character screen where you select the "good" paladin or the "evil" orc. You get to actually be cruel and thats how you "turn" evil..
  25. This is really sad.
