  1.

Ok so let's just get this straight:

This is ok ? As some of you said before :v

Are you trying to say this is the same as the trailer we just saw? I think we both know it isn't. No matter how hard you try to say they are the same, they are not the same.

So is the point your shitty friends are trying to make that games like GTAV aren't serious enough about their violence? That the civilians should be begging for their lives and genocide should be an actual objective? That the game world shouldn't be a self aware parody and instead should try to be more realistic?

What censorship are they making a statement about exactly? Are school shootings and violent murderers not getting enough attention already?

Let's be honest here your shitty friends are just making a shitty game but are using shock value to get as much attention as possible. And of course it will get more press attention than actual good and interesting games. Fuck them

  2. This is a game that my friends are making (my ex team from The Farm 51).

This might shock you, you may like it or you may hate it. But I'm curious what do you think. Me personally would play the shit out of this game ;)

This is terrible & you have shitty friends, sorry.

  3. Law school is actually killing me. I get an average of 3-4 hours of sleep a night, haven't been to the gym in months, I miss my family and my dog, I sit in class and stare at my desk, my limbs feel like they are made of spaghetti. This is my last year but I can honestly say I am miserable, bored, and sick of being here. I woke up this morning and felt like a flat sheet of paper, it feels as if I've lost 20 pounds since school started. It's not even that it's hard, it's easy and obvious and anyone would be able to spend one week preparing for the stupid test at the end of the rainbow. Angry these days.

You should look at maybe a career in videogames

  4. from what I know, and my knowledge is limited. Being CPU bound shouldn't affect the resolution too much. if it runs at 30 fps because it's CPU bound, it will run a 30 fps now matter what res. Upping the res will of course eventually make the framerate GPU bound again, dropping it even below 30.

Still, sad they have to drop to 900p to stay at 30 fps. The game looks good, but it doesn't look so good that it warrants dropping the resolution, imo.

  5. Some more we tried:

-crawl: It's still in alpha but unfortunately it couldn't hold our attention very long. The art style is so low res and chaotic that it's hard to see what's going on. Felt like more style than substance unfortunately. The combat just isn't very interesting and most of the time the other players float around as ghosts with nothing to do which sucked. Anyways, hope it gets better over time, will probably try again in the future.

-serious sam 3: split screen and interface all accessible with a controller. awesome! However the art is so desaturated and noisy it's really hard to see what's going on. Performance was pretty crappy too on 4 player split screen, I had to set everything to ultra low to get a decent framerate (singleplayer i get 60 fps on high). We only did deathmatch though but got bored of it pretty fast. I'd give it a pass but will try coop mode next time.

-Quake 3 revolution: Better than serious sam 3 but got boring pretty fast. 4 player split screen performance was surprisingly good for it being an emulator. Controls are pretty bad and you get none of the finesse and movement feel that makes quake feel so cool. Was kinda cool to try for a while though, just because it's interesting to play Q3 in a different way :). But not really worth going through the effort to make it work.

-magica: AWESOME! I've had this game for a few years now and only every played on LAN which was pretty fun. But the game really shines in local coop. The controller support is surprisingly well done and we probably played the coop for several hours straight. Like this is seriously one of the most fun games I've ever played in coop. With 4 player we tended to each take on different roles (healer, fire attacker, lighting guy and defense/freezing) which felt awesome. Lots of tense situations we only got through thanks to good teamwork. Very very impressed with how well done the local coop is. When we first accidentally combined beams and killed a boss it felt like one of the best moments in a game ever. Recommended!

  6. So I had a party game night and here's the verdict on what we played:

-mario wars: kinda fun for about 5 minutes, but mostly confusing and gets boring real fast

-broforce: great with 2 players. way too much stuff going on with 4 players and very confusing

-hidden in plain sight: AWESOME!!!! highly recommended

-nidhogg: AWESOME! It's only 2 players but we played this for a loooong time taking turns. Really fun to watch people duel

-trackmania 2: Terrible. The local multiplayer is very half assed and nothing like the LAN or online multiplayer. Navigating the menus is a frustrating experience too. Immediately uninstalled it lol

-speedrunners: AWESOME! However this game is very very tense. after playing a few rounds you really want to take a break to calm down.

Will try some of the other suggestions next time :)

  7. Here's another instance of windows ruining the fun. I get this annoying popup playing some games:

    HRVsT.png

which makes you lose focus on steam, takes you back to windows and totally fucks things up.

good thing you can turn it off using this: http://superuser.com/questions/507308/permanent-fix-for-do-you-want-to-change-the-color-scheme-to-improve-performance

    In regedit go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsDWM (create if not already existent)

Set a new DWORD UseMachineCheck with a value of 0.

This will keep Windows from checking if your computer "performs slowly" and thus attempting to disable Aero.

Still.. it shows just another reason why valve is doing the linux thing. There's just too many random windows issues that are out of their control, and you can't expect any mainstream users to edit their registry to get a smooth steam experience.

  8. I had an old PC lying around that I stuck SteamOS on, it's nice.  Having the purpose-built compositor is so nice, so shit inevitably hits the fan, I never hit a desktop (also streamed PC stuff has controller mouse mode, which is super nice).  Just if there were more Linux games...

How is the picture quality and input lag for streaming games like that? Good to know they have mouse emulation for that too :)

This is just making me think of the Steam controller, when is that thing going to come out?  I really want to try that thing

I've tried it and while cool, it still felt like they have a long way to go with it :). I hope they can come up with something that's at least as good as the xbox controller, with an optional extra mouse control that feels good. I'm not sure if a steam controller that tries to be as good as a mouse would be the right solution though. Some games are just made to be played on a desktop. I'd rather see the mouse control as a nice extra on it.

  10. NON STEAM GAMES & EMULATORS

Valve has been gracious enough to allow you to add a non-steam game to your steam library. Adding a non-steam game will (usually) still give you the steam overlay and allow you to exit the game, take screenshots etc. However if you have an xbox controller, pressing the home button on a non-steam game will also pop up a battery indicator, which simultaneously makes steam lose focus. I found this very annoying, but thankfully you can get rid of it by uninstalling "Xbox 360 Controller Accessories". Now steam should never lose focus and you won't be able to tell the difference between a steam and non-steam game :).

Installing non steam games also allows you to get emulators working. Right now I have successfully gotten the following to work:

    SNES

    I'm using ZSNES: http://www.zsnes.com/

    for full controller control:

-make sure it's set to run full screen

-make sure to set up the controllers in input

-in the misc menu, you can set "control GUI with gpad 1", turn this on to control znes with your controller.

-in the misc menu, go to misc keys and set up a button to exit zsnes. On my setup I exit zsnes by pressing down the right thumbstick. znes doesnt work with the steam overlay unfortunately.

-put all the ROMS you like in a folder znes is pointing to by default :)

On steam I just have the zsnes executable set up as a non steam game. I found that this works well enough :).

    PS2

    I'm using PCSX2: http://pcsx2.net/

setting up PCSX2 could probably use a thread of its own, so I wont go into too much detail about that. You'll need to get a PS2 BIOS ROM "somehow" and turn your ps2 dvd's into ISO files to run them. You can private message me if you need help with these things :P.

my settings in PCSX2 are whatever the defaults are, and I also set it to render at 2x native resolution. PS2 games scale up pretty well this way, makes them feel HD :). I also had the set the sound module to directsound. Don't forget also to set up your controllers!

to link up a game on steam, create a .bat file. This is the bat file i set up to run ICO:

    "C:Program Files (x86)PCSX2 1.2.1pcsx2-r5875.exe" --fullscreen --nogui "C:gamesps2ICO.iso"

so the first line points to your PCSX2 exe, then turn on full screen and dont load the GUI, then second line points to your executable.

Now, change the extension of the file from .bat to .exe

You can now add it as a non-steam game.

But wait! steam will give you an error trying to run the .exe, so now name the file back to .bat, and in steam, right click on the game and go to properties. In there, also change the shortcut path back to .bat. Now it will load correctly :).

You can also point the shortcut directly to the command in your .bat file. Which is what I did here:

    PCSX2link.jpg

Now on SBP, you can start the game directly! It will even work with the steam overlay, and you can use that to exit the game. The experience is surprisingly smooth, even though the setup is a little annoying.
