Announcing my new game - Solus - Survival/Exploration - Unreal Engine 4
Pericolos0 replied to Hourences's topic in Off-Topic
Congrats on the release!! Can't wait to try it out (as soon as I find some free time lol) -
I love this, super awesome work :). I'm also gonna steal that "something happened" text haha
-
damn haha I'm at 210 secs now. took a while to get there but i'm still discovering new mechanics. You can bounce the daggers of the floor into a shower of sparks which take out skulls!
-
You die when you touch anything that isn't the floor, may seem random in the beginning but it gets better once you understand all the movements of the enemies
-
are you guys playing this or what?? I'm at 199 seconds now GOTY
-
haha no way

@jackophant I'd love to put together an efficient little computer like that one day, but for a powerful gaming machine, I can't imagine that thing not making a ton of noise and blasting a ton of heat, with fans constantly spinning up and down. There doesn't really seem to be any room for closed loop cooling like you say either :p. To get my computer to be 100% quiet, I had to put closed loop cooling on both my graphics card and CPU, and install about 5 noctua fans. There's no way I could have done that in an ITX case Of course, if you don't care about noise levels and screaming fans, none of this matters :). A lot of people just game with headphones on anyways

ATX if you want to build a powerful PC, with a big case, nice airflow and you plan to switch out parts and customize a lot in the future. Lots of room for enthusiast stuff like water cooling radiators too. mITX for smaller home theater style systems. You can actually build quite a powerful system with mITX these days, there's some interesting case designs that will allow for a full size GFX card. Physics still rules so heating will always be an issue with smaller cases, and trying to build a nicely cooled quiet mITX gaming machine will be challenging, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. The only reasons I can think of for a mini ITX gaming system are: -smaller home theater machine -more portable in case you have to move your computer around a lot, like going to LAN parties or whatever. If your computer will be stationary, I'd go ATX, it will save you a lot of headaches

I died a bunch of times and only got about halfway through the game haha. I'll probably do another one this weekend! I'm spending a lot of time tweaking gameplay and balancing right now :). I'll invite a few more people to test in the next few days too! Would love to figure out modding support in the future, but it's definitely something for post-release =)

@FrieChamp haha my stair/slope placement code is a mess. One day I will fix it :p. Doesn't break any game play and looks fine in most cases so I haven't bothered touching it up
-
That's the one room on the whole game that's actually pre made, it's a boss arena :). Everything else is procedurally generated.

Oh that's awesome!! Thanks for sharing :D. Sorry if I haven't been updating GIBHARD on mapcore as much anymore, I've been using my twitter for that pretty much: https://twitter.com/Leukbaars GIBHARD is on the final stretch now for early access, and I'm about to start up a closed alpha test again. Here's some shots of what I've been working on over the last few months:
-
Same, except I don't wanna see all my mismatched parts and horrible cable management
-
Nice I have the same case :D. Very roomy & silent

Oh I like it a lot more. Kills the noise of bottoming out and dampens the feel too. I didn't like how cheap mechanical keys can feel when you have plastic hitting the base plate, the slight dampening make the keys feel a lot more refined :). Of course it's all personal preference with mechanical keyboards, but I'd recommend rings. They are pretty cheap too, I paid 15$ for a bag of them and you can probably get them cheaper if you look around. Worth the value imo

I have gone through a few G400s with exactly that problem, and that combined with two cats who like to play with mouse cables is why I wanted to finally go wireless :p. I can't feel any lag.at all, the low latency is one of main reasons why I picked this one over other wireless mice with longer battery life :). It charges when the PC is powered off or on standby, though I haven't tested how well it charges in those states.. my computer is pretty much always turned on. Battery life has been pretty awesome so far, I haven't had it go below 70% even after using it all day long. I do make it a habit to put it on the charging base when I'm away from my computer. So yeah, so far I'd recommend it :). It's designed with low latency for gaming but doesn't look like a typical ugly gaming mouse, just has a nice minimalist elegant design, which I like a lot. The only thing that sucks is the software that comes with it. Getting the firmware update for it made it stop working completely :S, but if you just install it and have it run in the background, it's no big deal.

that would be pretty cool!! a charging base you can use as a small mouse pad in case your battery is low. Seems like a good solution

It's a good idea in theory but I'm not sure I'd even want it. One of the main reasons I like to have a wireless mouse is because i don't want to confine my mouse to a small area on my desk, I like to move it all over the place. Also I wouldn't like a giant mousepad on my desk either, that's filled with giant coils for inductive charging. I don't think a thing like that could be powered through USB :p. Also remember wacom tablets used to come with a mouse that worked on the tablet. It sucked lol, even on large tablets It's way simpler to just put together a mouse with longer battery life. There's already wireless mice with 2 years or longer battery life, just not the kind I want :p. But it's bound to happen PS I traded in the mechanical keyboard I posted earlier for the same model but with blue cherry MX switches instead. I realized I like the clicky tactile feel of those way better :). I also fitted rubber dampener rings on every key: typing on this thing feels AMAZING now =)

I found myself more and more frustrated with having wires laying around on my desk for my peripherals, so I wanted to go all wireless with everything. Took my a while to get decent parts but here they are: -Bluetooth mechanical keyboard with red switches (had to import it from korea lol https://www.diatec.co.jp/en/det.php?prod_c=1877 ;wireless mechanical keyboards are very hard to find) custom keycaps from http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/ -Steelseries sensei wireless gaming mouse https://steelseries.com/gaming-mice/sensei-wireless Loving it so far :)! I wish the mouse had longer battery life but it's not so bad with the charging base that comes with it. Keyboard batteries will last a year at least but it seems there's no good wireless gaming mouse with such long battery life . Still, the 20+ hours it had is plenty as long as i make it a habit to but it on its charging base when not using it, I haven't had it go dead yet so far

I don't use playmaker for my projects, I script everything. I'm curious as to what you run into trouble with with unity? I don't really consider myself an engineer so I maybe look at things from a different perspective. So far I've been able to put together whatever I could think of without too much trouble :). I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes though.. the mono stuff you're talking about doesn't seem to affect my stuff :p. with clean and lightweight I mean the editor layout and the whole simplicity of everything being gameobjects that you attach scripts and components to. You only make it as complex as you want it to be. I won't deny that unity has problems though... I think it's definitely still a "small game" type of engine. They need to really figure out their lighting system if they want to play along visually with other "big game" engines. Their implementation of enlighten is just really painful to use, and imo overkill for most games. Their editor is also not ideal for building large complex environments with lots of objects. If either of those were my priority, I would for sure jump on to unreal.

vaya you and i got the same taste lol
