  1. You're not going to be crunching with the young guys at age 65, I can tell you that
  2. yup I'm maxing out my US 401k and roth IRA knowing that I can access these wherever I end up being. There's also ways to roll over retirement accounts from one country into another's, but this can get complicated. My plan is to just put as much money in investment accounts as possible and let it compound over the years. I hope to be able to retire early as well, because I don't want to work at mcdonalds in case I am too old for the games industry . I see goverment pensions as maybe a nice extra when I retire, but I don't want to bet on it. I wouldn't consider owning real estate a retirement plan, unless you maybe are a landlord, and you make a lot of money from renting out property? Real estate is also prone to bubbles and many people owning real estate are actually house poor. Theres also significant upkeep cost and property taxes that come with real estate. I hope to own a house some day, but I don't see it as an investment, owning a house is a liability.
  3. Wrong... I'll explain if someone ask. yeah would love to know why it is a good idea to invest into something as highly volatile as bitcoin. Right now that's not investing, it's gambling
  4. this is a good bitcoin explanation as well: http://www.stuffyoushouldknow.com/podcasts/bitcoin-works/ also, anyone thinking about "investing" in bitcoin, you're about a year late to the party lol.
  5. dude awesome progression!!!
  6. the lighting has a voxel cone tracing feel to it. Could be geomerics enlighten as well. Or maybe their own crazy solution? Let's hope it's realtime

  12. I've been interested in installing this, but afraid of screwing up the color balance for when i'm working on ~*ArTz*~
  13. nah I paint straight up in color. I try to get the colors right in the very beginning as well, because I found I usually waste way too much time adjusting and tweaking the colors later. If you can make it feel right in the beginning, you can usually stick with it til the very end.
  14. indian warrior
  15. thx! todays topic, "sleigh ride"
  16. really wanna get better at drawing cars & reflective surfaces
  17. Yeah I love it! It's a great mix of beginners and industry pros as well. The best part is everyone sharing techniques, and the fact that 30 minutes don't give you time to hide your tricks, so you get a little peak into other artist's minds
  18. THREAD RESURRECT!! I got back into painting recently after a long hiatus, there's a facebook group called daily spitpaint where you get a topic every day and have to paint it in 30 minutes, which can be really challenging . Here's a bunch that I did, all of them 30 minutes or less:
  19. That looks awesome!!! Congrats on finishing it up . I do agree with some of the comments here, the details are a little overwhelming, there's a lot of small frequency contrast going on. It seems like all the contrast is coming from the diffuse maps, giving it a very cartoony vibe. I think a little toning down of that and getting more contrast in the lighting would have helped. Still looks really great though nevertheless .
  20. have you tried using a pre-made height map? paint a canyon, then erode it?
  21. Really? I thought source code was great! On of the best sci fi movies in recent years. I'd recommend it
  22. If that's ingame, that's seriously amazing. It has a polished concept art quality to it

    Gravity

Just saw it, it was awesome! VERY impressed with the CG, it's one of the rare few times where everything felt really believable. Didn't like George Clooney's preformance though, it was basically indistinguishable from Buzz Lightyear. Also like all the little metaphors of birth, evolution etc =). The pressure differences in space aren't as big as what scuba divers experience, so it wouldn't really cause that kind of decompression sickness. I think space suits even operate at only a third of athmospheric pressure . Also, you only get decompression sickness after prolonged exposure to a different pressure gradient, so if you recompress shortly after decompression you should be fine. But yeah, you can survive in a vaccuum for up to two minutes I think, but you can only hold consciousness as long as oxygen is supplied to the brain, which is only something like 16 seconds. There's a similar airlock scene in 2001 a space odyssey, which is supposed to be possible IRL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QL-7QJEJinA
