  1. 1024*1024 gungame killbox challenge?
  2. no thanks
  3. hahahaha dwarf fortress is really just a modern work of outsider art http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outsider_art
  4. I'm playing it as well, new version is soooo awesome. GOTY 2014 for me already lol I used to play with mayday's pack but now I actually prefer using the taffer ASCII pack: Colors are soft on the eyes and you can pack a lot on the screen at the same time. Dwarf fortress is weird in that it actually plays better the more obscure the graphics are imo. The game is really all about letting it work in your imagination, what's on your screen is just information. It's too bad that the UI and ASCII graphics are such a deterrent for many people, you're all missing out on one of the best and most complex games ever made .. There's nothing else like it.
  5. I have a 2008 focus, and it squeaks as well, It's been doing it for years and I've never been able to figure out what it is. Looking online it's apparently pretty common and opinions are varying to what is the cause :s. I took it to a mechanic and he said the car was fine, in great shape. I'm not really worried about it, though it's definitely not driving me mad either
  6. tricky truck is better
  7. I bought gnomoria and I'm pretty disappointed.. it's basically a dwarf fortress clone with a better interface, except it seems to have completely missed the point about what makes dwarf fortress great. The annoying music doesn't help either
  8. random deviant brushes + your bigass logo = "design" It's Ed Hardy level stuff imo.. judging from their pics its aimed at a similar crowd

  10. skacky thats rad dude
  11. How is warface actually doing? Is there anything more to it than being a generic COD clone? It just doesn't seem to be getting any media coverage at all. I remember wanting to try it out a while ago, but could never get g-face working... Also they need to come up with better names for their products. warface and gface just sound silly
  12. Cool, I was thinking of getting a raspberry pi to use as media center/emulator. What are you planning to use it for?
  13. I never met anyone that's actually a member and I've been in the biz for 9 years now

    GTA V

if it runs at 60 fps it might be worth buying for the multiplayer imo. Don't care so much about the graphics.. it already looks awesome on ps3, and it look basically thesame on ps4 with slightly higher res textures. If it still runs at 30 fps on ps4 then you are basically paying 60 bux for the equivalent of a skyrim hires texture mod lol
  15. lol cashed that awesome. Source engine can actually push a crazy ammount of polies when it's static meshes, I'm not surprised at all it runs well. You should try to see of you can bake static mesh lighting on those guys! Would look nice
  16. Just went to see edge of tomorrow. It was super awesome, go watch it

    Doom (4)

you can see it pretty well in this shot: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviewimages/wolfenstein-the-new-order/wolfenstein-the-new-order_screenshot8.png everything is baked, so rendering wise its very cheap, just a diffuse texture basically. However as you can see, there's no specular reflection coming from those lights at all, and it looks like the baking process adds a strong highlight and sharpen filter to everything. It feels like a very hacky way to make up for the lack of shading imo. Don't get me wrong though, I think the game looks really cool . But the lack of shading features makes for a very specific "look" that idtech 5 has.

    Doom (4)

they don't really do much dynamic lighting. I'd guess dynamic objects are lit by light probes. I noticed most reflective surfaces like metal do have a normal map for the reflection, but it's really low res and very compressed. They make up for lack of proper shading by adding really strong highlights on every edge, which in my opinion looks oldschool and weird.

    Doom (4)

Doing PBR on idtech5 would probably require about 3-5x the memory. It's no longer a single map, diffuse, normal, ao, spec, roughness etc needs to be stored separately. A game like wolfenstein would be like 200 GB doing this.. which is a little ridiculous

    Doom (4)

megatextures, the way they are implemented in the idtech5 engine are a dead end. Baking the lighting and normal maps into a single diffuse map is cheap but ultimately makes for extremely static environments, which really limits the kinds of games you can make. I'd love to see an engine do a hybrid implementation, where some objects can use mega textures, but it also works in conjunction with traditional techniques, realtime lighting, physics, etc.. I just wanna be able to put a really big texture on an assets if I need to, but I dont want it everywhere with everything baked into it .
  21. did it work
  22. admin edit : spoiled the whole episode
  23. did you watch primer?
  24. refueling/science station! One lander just arrived back from the surface and is refueling for the next sortie, the other on just arrived from kerbal with a rover to be deployed on the surface . The landers double as orbital tugs so the can go anywhere in the kerbal system really if they take a fuel tank with them
  25. the best way to get into kerbal is to just build a rocket and launch it. you will probably fail miserably at getting anywhere near space or orbit at first, but then you rebuild, make changes to you design and try again, over and over. That's the fun .. somewhere along the way you will get a better understanding of what you are actually doing and how to achieve your goal of orbit.. and beyond. At some point things will just click and all of a sudden you understand orbital dynamics through experimentation. Little steps! And lots of failed rocket contructions . And constructing different rocket designs is half the fun of kerbal. Many people who play the game don't even go to space, just build cool airplanes and weird rockets
