should I read the books before watching this?

And watch the original film? - I know it’s not a sequel, but wonder if would give any benefit, or would make the grandiosity of the new one less powerful.

You can just watch it. My gf didn't know anything about Dune and had no problem understanding anything and loved the movie.

Highly recommend the books though! And the David Lynch movie has a special place in my heart despite being a pretty flawed movie. First half of it is gold

  2. Forgot there was a thread about this, movie was incredible. Very close to how it played out in my head reading the books and the grand scale of everything was a great way of showing the larger scale of politics and control the books go about in detail without having to tell the viewer.

Also Spice silos! I don't recall those being in the book. New Dune strategy game plz

no? In the last few days the White House has in succession announced they want to blacklist content themselves on social, as well as coordinating with phone carriers to look into private text messages for misinformation.

That sounds like United States of China to me.

This sounds insane and would be huge news if true. all I can find about it is a comment taken out of context and spun into fearmongering by conservative pundits (of course).

Might be worth reassessing where you get your "news"

EDIT: also, please don't derail the thread with conspiracy stuff guys. There's EOT for that

You want to put experimental technologies in your body, then by all means, go for it, more power to you, it's your right to do so. If you don't want to do it, because of whatever personal reasons you have, that's fine too. Let's just respect each others' choice and stop the gaslighting/virtue signaling :)

you have the right not to get vaccinated but that choice doesn't deserve any respect lmao

Any argument about why it's a good thing ?

its not the big pandora's box you think it is. We live in a society. You don't want to get vaccinated and do the barest minimum effort to help protect the people around you? Maybe you don't get to go to the restaurant then.

Sorry to hear about that. I was in a similar situation, haven't been back to Brazil in years and bought tickets to go with my gf last year. We were supposed to fly in April, but then covid hit. Looks like we won't be able to go for a while :S

This shit seems to keep coming and going in waves...

I was planning to visit family in october 2019, delayed the trip to march 2020 because of a busy time at work.. Then covid happened. Been 3 years since I've been back home :(. Meanwhile I got vaccinated last week here in the US but my parents (both 60+) still don't know when they will be in Belgium. Hope I'll be able to travel before Christmas.

It's been an weird time. For me and my fiancee its not been too bad, we've been blessed to have a small bubble of good friends we've been hanging out with, and actually did a lot of camping and road trips. Feeling a weird guilt when I talk to family in Belgium, where they've had very strict measures, not allowing people to travel or have gatherings for a long time.

  6. I've gone through a series of wireless gaming mice, the tech has really improved in the last couple of years. Currently have a logitech G603 and I'm very happy with it. Takes 2 AA batteries and them seem to last 6+ months at least, with me using them all day for work and also personal use in the evening. Very impressed

It's ridiculous dude... some of these cities really make it hard to buy.

It's actually more than I thought here:

But yeah, seems like you're ballpark about Vancouver too, I guess it makes sense that it's the most expensive real estate in Canada due to economy, geography, close to the US and climate. (I believe it's the warmest city in the whole of Canada)

Good financial advisors always counsel on keeping your mortgage at around 25% your monthly net, so with that knowledge, we can do a quick back of the napkin math here, for a $1 million house, if you saved to put a downpayment of 10% ($100k), you're probably looking at a mortgage of $4500 a month, and this is with the current low interest rates too! So you'd need to net around $18000 a month to afford that...

Oh well... it's a brave new world now with WFH, so we only have to be around these expensive places if we really want to. I can tell you I'm already considering my options here... and there's a lot of options out there.

lmao, almost a million bucks to live in a blando suburb where theres nothing to do but go to the mall and you have to drive to get anywhere

home prices are nuts all over the west coast *cries in seattle*
