1. Back to serious responses, I'll echo what Step and Jetset (is that an appropriate abbreviation?) said. Focus on areas that are demonstrably yours, make sure to fully credit everyone else involved, and be very clear about what you did and didn't do. I've worked with Lunaran on a bunch of stuff both personally and professionally and always make it a point to focus the screenshots I take in directions that emphasize my contributions - a good example is looking at the shots I posted of Q4CTF7: http://lunaran.com/page.php?id=25 The collaborative experience is great for you, even if it makes the portfolio a little trickier to manage. Stick with your team, and keep making cool stuff on your own time. It'll give you a good balance.
2. Really cool idea, and great post covering it. This has me wanting to go back to a CP/CTF hybrid setup I've been poking at since TF2 released. I'm eager to see how this turns out!
3. These are perhaps the last things I care about in a Dead Space game. I will dub this Army of Lost Planet 2 until proven otherwise.
4. You mean the game that was released for the original Xbox in fall 2004? You know, I'm actually looking forward to this. I feel like I shouldn't be. But I am, and i'm ok with that.
5. Here's footage. Oh my. http://www.giantbomb.com/shootmania-sto ... d/17-5998/
6. Hey everyone. Look what we made! The Perpetual Testing Challenge Pack can be found on the Steam Workshop here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... d=73087753 27 test chambers, 14 authors, and a damn good time. Hope you all had fun, and we'll be back with a more traditional MapCore Challenge soon!
7. I'm having issues trying to play other test chambers, too. If that doesn't get fixed in the next few hours, I'll extend the deadline to tomorrow night.
8. The Purity Permutation: Project 1 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... d=71860805
9. The submission thread is up! Feel free to continue using this thread for wip critique and feedback, but you need to have your final submissions posted by Sunday night. viewtopic.php?f=57&t=17064
10. Hopefully you've all been having fun with the Portal 2 editor the last couple weeks. It's time to gather up our submissions! May 20th, 2012 11:59 PM US Central time (GMT -6) A reminder of our submission guidelines: You have until 11:59 PM US Central time (GMT -6) to make your submission. At the end of the submission window, all entries will be compiled into a MapCore Perpetual Testing Challenge Collection on the Steam Workshop. Only test chambers that have been posted to the Submission Thread AND include the "MapCore Perpetual Testing Challenge" in their description will be added to this collection. Then, the MapCore Collection will be unleashed on the world and we'll all be pretty pleased with ourselves. Let's see what you've got!
11. magdernader: That was the issue I was having, got it sorted out! Here's my first; I may not get three of these done in time for the challenge as I've been sick and we're moving on Friday, but I'll see what I can manage. It's deliberately simple, but I like how it turned out. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... d=71860805
12. Puddy, that gameplay concept sounds fantastic. Love the idea.
13. Has anyone had any issues building levels in the new editor? I can't for the life of me get anything to build - I'm wondering if maybe I have a bad registry path set somewhere from having moved my Steam folder to a new HDD recently?
14. All right, here is a RULES UPATE regarding submissions: The SUBMISSION THREAD will be opened late Thursday May 19th. You will have from then until 11:59 PM (US Central) on Sunday, May 20th to post your submission(s). Here are the updated submission guidelines: [*:3jv021mu]Your level MUST be posted to the Steam Workshop and include mention of the "MapCore Perpetual Testing Challenge" in its description [*:3jv021mu]Post this link in the submission thread (Please keep all your submissions to a single post). In addition to the download link, each level must also have: [*:3jv021mu]1 in-editor screenshot [*:3jv021mu]1 in-game screenshot At the end of the submission deadline, all entries will be compiled into a MapCore Perpetual Testing Challenge on the Steam Workshop. Only test chambers that have been posted to the Submission Thread AND include the "MapCore Perpetual Testing Challenge" in their description will be added to this Collection. Then, the MapCore Collection will be unleashed on the world and we'll all be pretty pleased with ourselves. Any questions/comments?
15. Glad to see you guys are rolling already Does anyone have any idea how these "collections" work? It looks like we could still put together a big ol' happy MapCore pack that way for ease of downloading. Once we sort that out we can finalize our submission guidelines and all that fun stuff.
16. START YOUR PORTAL 2! Let's see what you can crank out
17. We're taking a little detour while vivi works out his example map for the next big challenge, and taking advantage of the timing of a fun new toy coming out next week. Say hello to the Perpetual Testing Challenge: viewtopic.php?f=57&t=17043
18. THREE puzzle submissions per person. The challenge will begin May 8th, and end Sunday, May 20th at 11:59PM US CENTRAL time (GMT -6)* As always, the submission thread will be opened in the final days of the challenge. Post the following items with your submission: [*:2amd65y4]Please keep all of your submissions to the Mapcore thread in a single post (the edit button is your friend) [*:2amd65y4]Your level MUST be posted to the Steam Workshop and include mention of the "MapCore Perpetual Testing Challenge" in its description [*:2amd65y4]In your Mapcore submission, include a link to your puzzle's WORKSHOP page. In addition to the download link, each level must also have: 1 in-editor screenshot 1 in-game screenshot [*:2amd65y4]Optional: A video showing your puzzle's solution(s) Unless there is severe backlash, this challenge will not have a voted component. Instead, all entries will be compiled together into a single post with appropriate download links. If the Steam Workshop integration will allow it, we will bundle all entries together to form a MapCore Portal 2 Pack . You may: [*:2amd65y4]Use ONLY the editor provided in the Perpetual Testing Initiative DLC [*:2amd65y4]Submit up to THREE puzzles (please post only one reply to the submission thread, however, bundling all your submissions together) You MAY NOT: [*:2amd65y4]Build or otherwise adjust your level in Hammer or any external tool. This is a level playing field.
19. I love the first shot, but the curves in the second shot really bother me - they just don't feel like they belong in the Q1 style. I'm not sure you even need to detail it much more, either, short of some extra floor trims and texturing the sides of the dark plates at the top of your first shot. Maybe some ceiling variation to your second shot for some depth, but the beauty of that style really is in its simplicity - I think decking it out too much (like with the curves) might actually hurt it in the long run. Fantastic. I really can't wait to play this.
20. Totally agreed, and when they did it had that real "oh shit we're being overrun" feeling vs. "raaar I shall charge and murder you all," and even had you fall back a few times. Nicely done.
21. The 2010 MOH was a damn solid game, so I'm really looking forward to this one. Though based on that trailer I see that since they've switched the SP to Frostbite they too have decided to make lots of night missions.
22. I've updated the first page with the list of active Twitter accounts listed here for easier following. Post yours if you haven't!
23. Hey guys, vivi and I are putting together plans for getting things rolling again with the challenges. I'd wanted to start right at the start of April, but work schedules are going to push that back a bit. Look for the start of something in the next 2-3 weeks!
24. That's what the "Assignments" tab was for! They had plenty of little side things in ME1/2 that came from news announcements, picking up random items, etc, and all got sorted under that category and were super easy to track without making it also impossible to track the main missions. Also there's no excuse for always making the starting selection down in the middle of the finished quests and making me scroll through them all to the top EVERY TIME.
