http://www.bluestrike.be/portalstorm/ct ... 440000.jpg While that is better it's still too repetitive which makes it boring. Avoid repetitive hallways, always make something that breaks the repetiveness. Lighting isn't enough in this case.

It doesn't exactly look good. It lacks a clearly defined theme and coherent texturing. Brushwork doesn't really make much sense, nor is it very detailed.

Ugh... It looks and feels more like HL1 than source. Did they actually remove the physics? The objects don't even break.

Well times have changed. Back in the days when the first beta for CS was released, competition was minimal compared to what it is now. People were inexperienced, everything new was cool and innovative. It didn't take much effort to get a custom cs map get played online on a full server. Today, it's next to impossible. As people gained experience the overall quality was pushed forward, giving birth to such mods as NS. The world today, however, is different. The number of mods being worked on is tenfold. The HL1 engine was taken to the max and since source has pretty much the same tools, the average mod quality standard is by far higher and so it the tolerance level. People are more demanding and critical thanks to increased competition. First impressions play a much higher role now. A first release must offer more for it to succeed.

word. however there is such a thing as Second Mover Advantage. Basically, the first mover makes a mistake so big that it leaves a gaping hole in the market for a second mover to come in and capitalize. Microsoft Excel was certainly not the first GUI driven spreadsheet. We all know Windows was not the first GUI OS for a home computer...now look at it. Further, sometimes inferior technology becomes the better whole product solution due to strategic moves and market conditions...which is a real bummer. I mean, anyone here remember the Windows 3.1 and earlier days? If you have problems with Win 98, 2000, ME, or XP...WHOLY SHIT you should have seen the problems with Windows in the 80s and early 90s. One thing I don't like is this "omg the sky is falling" mindset. Sure Sony is trying to push proprietary technology and go after our wallets. I say let them try. Do you know how many times Sony has tried that? Remember Beta vs VHS? Sony actually had superior technology in the Beta format, but they failed get enough market support because they wanted to keep exclusive rights and ...well the rest is history. Oh yeah, remember the first Macs? Even though they were vastly superior for home computing than competing IBM and clone machines Apple would not license its operating system. Lack of 3rd party hardward and software support followed outside of core graphics and publishing...now look at the Mac marketshare. How many gamers here play on Macs? You know the score. Ok i'm starting an angry rant. If you want some more history that is specific to the gaming industry read this: http://www.gamespot.com/gamespot/features/video/hov/ In it you'll see how these very issues have plagued the video game industry since its inception. Also note how Atari has been the industry's whipping boy. Also referred to as first-mover disadvantages~ The first company spends all its money on creating a market, promoting and establishing a product offering, educating customers, creating technology, etc. These are called pioneering costs. Once the company has done all the hard work, the late entrants crush it. This is actually quite common in all markets. Business is fun!~

Product/technology standardization is a win-win situation for both companies and customers. There are some key factors, such as backward compatibility, that facilitate standardization. The problem is that companies want first-mover advantages by creating their own technology, hoping it would be the next standard. They would then sell licenses of these copyrighted/patented products/processes to competitors. They would also have a cost advantage because of greater experience.

Oh my! Yet another super original scifi horror fps with scary biomechanical monsters in dark, futuristic, shiny, and unique hallways! People are sooo original these days. Why didn't think of replacing those boring limbs with guns?! Why have arms when you can have a grenade launcher instead? Brilliant!

The last shot still looks very flat architecturally. Add some more depth. Go wild with shapes and structures.

Actually that is the opposite, top5 most highesr rated countries by crime are "USA, Germany, UK, France and South Africa" not what you actually say poor countries. Sure when we go down the list we come across countries that have high poverty count, like Chile, Mexico, India and Thailand. If we look at general murder statistics then the chart show something different, but still countries like Russia, USA and South Africa are on top 10. Still we see good rotting on the "rich"countries (is the definition of rich by amount of rich people or general pool of money that the people in the country has in their disposal). U know ofcourse that they dont keep charts in poor countries, and when killings, rapes, massacres and kidnappings occur there, theyre not called crimes, but war, a crisis or just ignored because its normal there and there is no justice system. South Africa is a safe place compared to half a dozen countries on the same continent, whatever your charts say True as well~
